1968 Chevy Short-bed, 4x4 on 2040-cars
Bend, Oregon, United States

** This truck has a low reserve set **
This truck runs really strong with the later model Vortec 350 engine. This truck was purchased by a friend a couple years ago for a complete restoration. Well, he ended up not being able to swing it and needing money because of having two little kids and changing jobs, and I ended up with a truck I don’t really need or know much about. The truck is a 1968 Chevy short-bed, 4x4. It is not a cut-down long-bed like many guys are doing these days. It is an original short-bed which are getting very hard to find. I am not positive, but believe it may have originally been a 2wd that was converted to 4wd somewhere along the line, according to the VIN number, (I think the "C" would be a "K"? Not sure 46 years ago?) but regardless it is a very solid, cool looking and great running pickup. For its age, it’s actually in pretty good shape. It has: - A later model Vortec 350 engine converted to an Edelbrock intake and holly carb (with the info I was given, it has just over 15k miles on rebuild). It fires up instantly and runs good and strong! - Turbo 350 transmission - 208 transfer case. - 1/2 ton running gear with what we believe to be 4:56 gears. - Electric fuel pump. - Disk front brakes. - Power steering. - Newer “Optima” gel battery. - New battery cables. - Newer “Warn” lock-in hubs. - Receiver hitch. - Newer heater core. - Newer radiator. - Nice alloy wheels with 33/12.5/15 Mickey Thompson tires. - Rancho off-road shocks all the way around - Solid flange headers and 2.5" dual Flowmaster exhaust - Has a complete Painless wiring harness and fuse block. - New Phantom Autometer gauges and a new billet dash insert. - Tilt column. - Steering wheel out of 88-94 Chevy truck. - New carpet. - New door seals. - New door sill plates - Power windows. - New LED tail lights and LED license plate bolt lights. - 60/40 bench seat out of a late 80's Chevy truck. (In good shape, it’s just red underneath the cover) - Blazer fuel tank conversion in rear of truck between frame rails (fill spout thru bed floor).
This truck is what I call a “15-20' paint job”. It looks great 15-20 feet
away, but up close it has flaws. Not super bad, but it does have dings,
chips, flaking, etc.. Please see the
attached pictures. The body has a good
appearance from a short distance, but if you were to restore it, it would need
a little love. The body and cab floor are solid and in good shape with what
appears to be no rust, but it does have the normal areas of slight decay for
these trucks in the rockers, left cab corner, etc. Some have been worked, some haven't (left cab
corner and rockers need done eventually, but are fine for now. I have a brand new left cab corner I will send with the truck). Whoever patched
the old gas filler neck in the cab did a terrible job because some bondo is
heaving, but again it’s a pretty solid old truck that has a ton of potential,
or just drive it the way it is and get thumbs up all day! One nice thing about these old trucks is you
can’t really lose money if you take care of them and maintain them
somewhat. They will always increase in
value. Good luck and let us know if you have any questions! A signed, clear title and Bill of Sale will
be sent certified mail after final payment is received.
I will work with the new buyer to help out anyway I can for transport. $500 deposit due immediately after auction end to PayPal with the remaining balance due as a certified cashiers check or bank wire transfer within 7 days. The faster you take care of business, the faster you get your new truck! Any questions at all, feel free to ask. Thanks for looking! |

Jay Leno gets pulled over while roaring in a Corvette Z06 convertible
Tue, Jan 6 2015No one is above the law, even if that person is a certain silver-haired auto enthusiast with a popular weekly video series about the cars in his garage. This week, Jay Leno experiences the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z06, but he also gets to have a meeting with some of California's Finest immediately after a high-speed blast. As opposed to the full-bore Z06 coupe with the seven-speed manual, Leno gets behind the wheel of the slightly heavier convertible version with the eight-speed auto. Being a droptop doesn't bother him too much, but Leno makes it obvious he wishes that he could be shifting for himself. Even if the auto is technically quicker, Leno says that swapping gears gives him something to do while driving. Of course, one of the major advantages of the convertible is the ability to listen to the Z06's thumping V8 unimpeded. With 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque from 6.2-liters of supercharged muscle, it already puts down impressive numbers, but the sound might just be the best part of all. Around town, the 'Vette is quiet enough to easily blend in with the rest of traffic. However, tip the throttle down and the valves in the exhaust open up to turn the engine into roaring monster. Be careful where you make this thing howl, though, because it's pretty easy for the police to take notice. The host finds that out the hard way in this week's episode of Jay Leno's Garage. Recharge Wrap-up: Chevy Volt's new, improved powertrain; Inabikari wants to build Tesla Model X fighter
Thu, Nov 6 2014We knew the 2016 Chevrolet Volt's new powertrain would provide more range, but we didn't know how much. According to GM's Executive Director Larry Nitz, it is about 12 percent more, overall. "I can't think of a powertrain we've re-engineered more extensively within a five-year period than this one," he said. The battery, electric drive system and gasoline generator have all been reworked to allow for an overall driving range of up to 425 miles, with electric range speculated to reach 42 miles or more. The new Volt will also benefit from 20 percent quicker low-end acceleration, weight reductions and improvements in NVH. Read more at Hybrid Cars and at the SAE website. Hyundai's FCEV research and development boss, Dr. Sae-Hoon Kim, is optimistic about the future of hydrogen mobility in Japan. With the Tucson Fuel Cell already in production ahead of Toyota's FCV, Hyundai has a foothold in the hydrogen car scene. Kim believes that since the Fukushima disaster, Japan's attitudes toward energy make it friendly to a growing hydrogen economy. He also says that hydrogen won't be limited to Hyundai, with Kia getting all the battery EVs. "Both types are for both companies," Kim says. "For the moment, volumes are small and it is not wise to have Hyundai and Kia competing." Read more at Just Auto. The Latvian/German startup Inabikari is using crowdfunding to build an electric crossover for Europe. The Rev.01 EV hopes to compete with Tesla's upcoming Model X with a range of over 400 miles and a five-second 0-60 time. The group currently is trying to raise initial funds through an Indiegogo campaign, with hopes of more investment in the future and sales beginning in 2017. See the video below, and read more at Hybrid Cars and at the Inabikari website. Fuel economy and emissions regulations could lead to some interesting design changes to automobiles. The World Light Duty Test Procedure, set to replace the New European Driving Cycle in 2017, will push automakers to find new ways to reduce drag on their vehicles. For better aerodynamics, we could see traditional side-view mirrors replaced by cameras that display what they see on screens inside the vehicle. Another likely change will be the introduction of smaller, narrower wheels. Improving the average drag coefficient from 0.32 to 0.20 could reduce CO2 emissions by as much as 20 percent. 2020 Chevy Silverado HD vs. 2019 Ram, Ford heavy duty trucks: How they compare on paper
Tue, Jan 15 2019Last year was all about the latest in light-duty full-size pickup trucks, so this year, Ram, Ford and Chevy are launching the heavy-duty variants. The first out of the gate is the redesigned 2019 Ram 2500 and 3500 HD, and Ram dropped all the pertinent specs with the reveal. Chevy followed with the new Silverado HD in Chicago, and Ford revealed updates to the Super Duty at the same show. Ford hasn't released details on output, payload capacity, towing capacity or pricing for the updated Super Duty. As such, we'll be comparing the current Super Duty with the all-new Silverado HD and Ram HD. Both Chevy and Ram have revealed full specs for each of their respective trucks, leaving out only pricing, which we've estimated based on the outgoing models. You can see the raw details in the chart below, followed by extra information and analysis. Some things to keep in mind: These specifications cover all versions of the Ram HD, Silverado HD and Super Duty, such as 2500 and 3500 models, and all the way up to F-450. Specifications can vary widely based on engine, drivetrain, cab and bed configurations, so be sure to take a close look at the specific model you're interested in when you get particularly serious about buying. And of course, be sure to check out our car comparison tool if you'd like to look at other trucks on the market. Engines and drivetrains All three of these trucks offer gasoline and diesel engines, but only the Ram has two versions of the diesel. Starting with gas engines, Ram's 6.4-liter V8 has the power advantage with 25 more horsepower than the next-most-potent Super Duty, but the new Silverado HD's 6.6-liter V8 takes the torque crown at 464 pound-feet, nearly 35 more than the other two gas engines. The Ram is also the only one to pair an eight-speed automatic with the gas engine, whereas the Ford and Chevy make do with a six-speed. With diesel engines, horsepower is a weak point for the Ram. The Ram's entry-level turbo 6.7-liter inline-six is the weakest, as the only one with under 900 pound-feet of torque and under 400 horsepower. Even the high-output version only makes 400 horsepower, while the Chevy makes 445 and the Ford 450. But the tables turn with torque, as the Ram makes a best-in-class 1,000 pound-feet followed by the Ford's 935 and the Chevy's 910. Both the Ram and the current Super Duty diesels each get a six-speed automatic, but the new Silverado HD's diesel gets a 10-speed unit.
