Here you have it…a completely original, unmolested, K5 Blazer that is ready to run up a mountain side, pull a tree out of the ground or surge through a muddy bog.

It’s not in perfect shape, but its about as good as they come for having been on the road for 35 years. I’ll do my best to describe all of its flaws and little quirks, but there is nothing glaring that is going to affect the drivability of the vehicle.

First, the good…

The truck was recently tuned up by Don’s Performance in Harrisburg. New ignition coil, new valve cover gaskets, distributor cap, distributor rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter and the timing was reset. Car does not leak any oil and runs without a tick or a knock.

I am the second owner of the truck and I’ve only had it for a little over a year. The previous owner, a close family friend, bought it brand new in 1977 and got all the bells and whistles. The sticker price on the window sticker, which I still have, was over $10,000. The base cost for these vehicles was $6,397.

Powering the Blazer is a 305 cubic inch V8, which still runs strong. The milage on the odometer reads 107,324, but actually has far less than that. For about 10 years, the odometer incorrectly read about 12-15 mph faster than the vehicle was actually traveling. It was recently recalibrated by Powl’s Speedometer and Auto Care in Lancaster and now reads true.

The truck comes equipped with a “granny gear” four-speed SM465 transmission. The truck still goes into four-wheel drive without any issues and if you were to put it in 4 low and the granny gear, you can climb anything!

The interior is all original and still shines with a coat of Armoral on the dash. The original plaid seats are a real attention grabber driving down the road on a summer day and serves as a true reminder which era this truck was built in.

The rear seat folds up to create quite a bit of room in the back and the rear electronic window still goes up and down using the switch on the dash…and it comes with the original (full sized) spare tire.

For the most part, the exterior still looks great except for some rust areas (I’ll get to that later). There are no dents. The hood was professionally repainted several years ago with the factory Cordova Brown paint that was original for the vehicle.

The rear tires were also recently replaced and the truck was realigned and travels straight as an arrow.

Now the bad…

As you would expect, there are some issues with a vehicle this old, but like I said, none of them affect the drivability.

First, the truck does have a bit of rust (along the driver’s side door, driver’s side rear fender and the rear floor).

Probably the most problematic area is rust in the rear floor seating area. I did a fairly decent patch up job before the winter and it passed inspection without needing anything. If you were going to enjoy this vehicle for many years to come, its probably something you’ll have to address, but for now it suffices… at least for me.

Other than that, the issues are minor at worst and barley noticeable at least. The wiper motor sometimes acts up and while the wipers do always work by moving the switch, the intermittent setting isn’t always “intermittent.”

There is also an exhaust leak somewhere toward the front of the truck. It appears to be very minor, but you can hear the leak on acceleration. The mechanic at Don’s Performance said it wasn’t a big deal and if I didn’t have an issue with it, there probably wasn’t any sense in repairing it.

The dome light also only works manually (using the headlight knob) and does not come on automatically when you open the doors. It’s probably an incredibly easy fix, but it wasn’t a big deal to me to just reach and turn the knob to have light.

The only other thing, is the passenger side lock knob, which I have, came lose and the door only locks and unlocks using the key. Once again, it’s probably an incredibly easy fix, but I didn’t mind unlocking and locking the truck manually.

If you’re looking for a daily driver 4x4 this isn’t the vehicle for you. But if you’re looking for a fun to drive, toying around, attention grabbing, absolute beast in the snow, then this truck is for you. I am only selling it because I have enough toys, live only 2 miles from my work and really have no need for a 4x4 truck. Like I said, if you’re going to keep this truck for the next 5, 10, 20 years, it’s probably going to need a little work, but for now, this sucker is ready to roll.

If you have any questions, or want me to send more pictures, don’t hesitate to contact me at 717-507-4205. I live outside of Harrisburg and be willing to drive up to 100 miles to meet the buyer. You are welcome to come look at the Blazer, but please give me a little bit of notice. I will not ship the truck. I am also selling it locally, so I do reserve the right to end the auction early. My phone number is: 717-507-4205

Indian tuner turns Chevy Optra into Mustang 'Eleanor' replica

Fri, 03 Aug 2012

If you are a big fan of automotive oddities, this may come as a little treat. If you are a Shelby or Mustang diehard, prepare to have your sensibilities violated.
The master fabricators at BigDaddyCustoms are the minds behind what you see above. At first, it appears to be a slightly misshapen custom Mustang, modeled after "Eleanor" from Gone In 60 Seconds, but upon further examination, something appears to be amiss. In fact, the custom shop, based in India, has created an Eleanor replica grafted upon a lowly Chevrolet Optra. While it may take a second for the Optra to ring a bell, you should recognize its badge-engineered sibling, the Daewoo Lacetti, used on Top Gear.
We don't know what star would opt for the Reasonably Priced Car in Shelby's clothing, but it's clearly someone more concerned with the aesthetic than the performance credentials of this automotive mash-up.

Weekly Recap: Revisting the BBC report that ended Jeremy Clarkson's Top Gear run

Sat, Mar 28 2015

Jeremy Clarkson's long run as a Top Gear host has come to an end, and the reason is clear: His physical assault on one of the show's producers crossed a line, and the government-owned BBC couldn't tolerate it. The incident between Clarkson and Top Gear producer Oisin Tymon was initially described as a "fracas," and Clarkson was suspended. But his popularity and widespread support – even British Prime Minister David Cameron weighed in – suggested that the controversial Clarkson might be given yet another chance. The BBC put this to rest Wednesday when it sacked Clarkson and revealed the findings of its investigation. The report spelled out how Clarkson struck Tymon on the patio of a North Yorkshire (UK) hotel, leaving him with a bloodied, swollen lip. It was severe enough that the producer sought medical treatment. During and after the attack, Clarkson shouted expletives at Tymon and threatened to fire him. The noise carried into the hotel's dining room and even to a bedroom. Local police investigated the incident, but Tymon isn't pressing charges. The huge audience numbers, Clarkson's popularity and the high-octane excitement of Top Gear all melted away in the eyes of BBC director-general Tony Hall, who saw an attacker and a victim. "For me a line has been crossed," he said in a statement. "There cannot be one rule for one and one rule for another dictated by either rank, or public relations and commercial considerations." In that moment, Clarkson was the bad guy, though he was actually the one who reported it to the network and made repeated attempts to apologize to Tymon. He's also urged the media to leave the producer alone. Hall voiced regret in the statement that announced Clarkson's contract would not be renewed, but the BBC decided to move on. Rumors are swirling about possible replacements for Clarkson. The network says it wants to continue Top Gear in 2016 and is looking to air the rest of this season's episodes. Despite the controversy, the show has a global audience of 350 million viewers and is one of the BBC's most valuable properties. It's unclear what Clarkson's co-hosts, James May and Richard Hammond, will do, as their contracts were also reportedly up to be renewed. Ranking full-size pickup trucks by the size of their discounts

Tue, Oct 20 2020

Each and every month, full-size pickup trucks dominate the new-car sales reports in America. It's been that way for years — the Ford F-Series has been America's best-selling vehicle for 38 consecutive years — and it's not going to change any time soon. With that in mind, we've compiled this list of discounts on brand-new full-size pickup trucks using data provided by Truecar, including their average retail prices, average transaction prices and discounts in dollars and percentage off list price. We've also created a visualization of the best deals Americans are scoring on the three best-selling models in America. If you're looking for the absolute biggest discount you can find on a new truck, look no further than your nearest Ram dealership, then scour the lot for a leftover 2019 1500 model. Buyers are averaging nearly 13% off the cost of the 2019 Ram, paying an average transaction cost of $41,667. That's $6,071 off the average retail price, which equals the best truck deal in October. The 2020 edition isn't discounted nearly as far, averaging $2,852 off for an average transaction price of $48,904. The next best deal is on the 2019 Ford F-150; its average transaction price of $43,064 equals $3,843 off its sticker price. The 2020 F-150's $2,810 discount means buyers are paying around $47,300. They should know, though, that a brand-new model is coming for 2021, so we'd expect bigger discounts on remaining 2020 inventory in the coming months. Moving to General Motors, the best deal you'll find is on leftover 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500s, which are selling for an average of $47,043. That's $2,852 off the sticker price. Interestingly, 2020 Silverados are seeing slightly lower transaction prices at $46,009, but with a smaller average discount of $1,693. The 2020 GMC Sierra is mechanically similar to the Chevy, but aimed at buyers who want a bit more luxury. That's reflected in the 2020 Sierra 1500's average transaction price of $54,491, which is $2,131 off its sticker.
