You are bidding on a rare 1958 Chevy Bel Air Hard Top Sport Sedan. Chevrolet produced fewer of this model than they did of all of the 1958 car line except for the 2 door wagon. As you can see in pictures there is no B-pillar which means no door frame so windows seal right to the hard top. Engine is 283 cu. in. with a 4 barrel and dual exhaust. Transmission is a 2 speed Powerglide with factory Posi-Traction rear end. It also has power steering.

Engine and transmission are original and numbers matching and run great.Recently replaced front end bushings, ball joints, shocks on front and rear, along with a brand new treadle vac booster, all 4 wheel cylinders and brake hoses and new pads. Wheels are black powder coated 15" 1950's era. Tires are BF Goodrich Silvertown Whitewalls. It has a newer Edelbrock 525 CFM 4 barrel carb and an HEI distributor.  Has a new water pump.

Exterior of car has paint job that was done in the 1980's. Paint looks good in pics but is thin. It could use a new paint job. Original color was Honey Beige and Anniversary Gold. There is some rust on rear corner panels, wheel wells and right above head lights. All of chrome trim is there except 2 very small pieces between the driver side doors. Interior was also done in the 80's. Could use work. 5 seat belts were installed 2 years ago. Windshield has a crack. Also has a fairly new cd player with remote with USB connectors for iPhone/iPod.

We also  have original 14" rims and matching hubcaps. Will send with 14" or 15" depending on what buyer chooses. Car also comes with the original carb, air cleaner and distributor

This is my daily driver. I drive it to work every day and take the kids to school. We have driven it out of town multiple times. It gets about 22 mpg. It starts up every time and runs great. It is our family car and has been very reliable. Selling (sadly) because husband needs a new work truck. And I, quite frankly, am a great wife.

Feel free to message or call 509.412.2788 with any and all questions. Will happily send more pictures if wanted. We will help with loading and arrangements of shipping but buyer pays all shipping costs. Deposit of US $500.00 within 48 hours of auction close. Full payment required within 7 days of auction close via wire/bank transfer. Car will not leave our driveway until paid in full. Please do not pay until you get an invoice. We are selling car locally as well so we reserve the right to end auction early.

Buyers can apply for financing at the eBay Motors Financing Center or on the Financing tab before placing a bid or offering to buy vehicle.

IIHS: High numbers of drivers treat partially automated cars as fully self-driving

Tue, Oct 11 2022

WASHINGTON — Drivers using advanced driver assistance systems like Tesla Autopilot or General Motors Super Cruise often treat their vehicles as fully self-driving despite warnings, a new study has found. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), an industry funded group that prods automakers to make safer vehicles, said on Tuesday a survey found regular users of Super Cruise, Nissan/Infiniti ProPILOT Assist and Tesla Autopilot "said they were more likely to perform non-driving-related activities like eating or texting while using their partial automation systems than while driving unassisted." The IIHS study of 600 active users found 53% of Super Cruise, 42% of Autopilot and 12% of ProPILOT Assist owners "said that they were comfortable treating their vehicles as fully self-driving." About 40% of users of Autopilot and Super Cruise — two systems with lockout features for failing to pay attention — reported systems had at some point switched off while they were driving and would not reactivate. "The big-picture message here is that the early adopters of these systems still have a poor understanding of the technologyÂ’s limits," said IIHS President David Harkey. The study comes as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is scrutinizing Autopilot crashes. Since 2016, the NHTSA has opened 37 special investigations involving 18 deaths in crashes involving Tesla vehicles and where systems like Autopilot were suspected of use. Tesla did not respond to requests for comment. Tesla says Autopilot does not make vehicles autonomous and is intended for use with a fully attentive driver who is prepared to take over. GM, which in August said owners could use Super Cruise on 400,000 miles (643,740 km) of North American roads and plans to offer Super Cruise on 22 models by the end of 2023, did not immediately comment. IIHS said advertisements for Super Cruise focus on hands-free capabilities while Autopilot evokes the name used in passenger airplanes and "implies TeslaÂ’s system is more capable than it really is." IIHS in contrast noted ProPILOT Assist "suggests that itÂ’s an assistance feature, rather than a replacement for the driver." NHTSA and automakers say none of the systems make vehicles autonomous. Nissan said its name "is clearly communicating ProPILOT Assist as a system to aid the driver, and it requires hands-on operation.

Weekly Recap: The implications of strong new car sales

Sat, Jun 6 2015

New car sales are on a roll in the United States this year, and analysts are optimistic the industry will maintain its torrid pace. Sales increased 1.6 percent in May and reached an eye-popping seasonally-adjusted selling rate of 17.8 million, the strongest pace since July 2005, according TrueCar research. That positions the industry for one of its strongest years ever, as consumer confidence, low interest rates, low fuel costs, and an influx of new products propel gains. In addition to the positive economic factors, May also featured warmer weather across much of the US, an extra weekend, and it came on the heels of relatively weak April sales. Analysts suggest income tax refunds and the promise of summer driving and vacations also traditionally help May sales. "While 2015 will be one of the best years in the history of the US industry, in some ways it may be the very best ever," IHS Automotive analyst Tom Libby wrote in a commentary. "Not only are new vehicle registration volumes approaching the record levels of the early 2000s, but now registrations and production capacity are much more closely aligned so the industry is much more healthy." Capacity, an indicator of the auto sector's health, is also expected to grow. Morgan Stanley predicts it will eventually hit at least 20 million units per year, as many companies, including General Motors, Ford, Tesla, and Volvo are investing in new or upgraded factories. "The best predictor of US auto sales is the growth in capacity, and frankly, we're losing count of all of the additions – there's literally something new and big every week," Morgan Stanley said in a research note. Transaction prices, another telling indicator, also continue to show strength. They rose four percent in May to $32,452 per vehicle, and incentives dropped $10 per vehicle to $2,661, TrueCar said. "New vehicle sector and segment preference indicates consumers are confident about the economy and their finances," TrueCar president John Krafcik said in a statement. Still, Morgan Stanley noted the robust sales did little to immediately impact automaker stock prices and suggested it might be a prime time to sell if sales reach the 18-million pace. "Perhaps the biggest reason may be that investors have seen this movie before," the firm wrote.

1983 Motorweek showdown pits Porsche 928S vs. Chevy Camaro Z28

Mon, Jan 12 2015

Last month, Motor Trend threw the Camaro Z/28 and Porsche 911 GT3 into the bear pit and let them fight it out. Way back in 1983, MotorWeek had the same idea, comparing the Camaro Z/28 to the Porsche 928S. At the time, the Camaro was America's best selling sports coupe, the 928S was Porsche's top-of-the-line model that also had the highest top speed of any car sold here. And the price differential was even more stark then: $13,600 for the Camaro, $45,000 for the Porsche. That put the Z/28's cast-iron, 5.0-liter V8 with 190 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque against the all-aluminum 4.7-liter V8 with 234 hp and 263 lb-ft in the 928S. Even with that and the Camaro being 14 inches longer than the Porsche, the American was a surprising 40 pounds lighter than the German. The show took them to Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia to see how close a relative performance bargain could hang with a the German GT. Both had five-speed manual transmissions, but the high-speed corners and tight sections of Summit Point would test other handling variables, including the "bone-rattling" Camaro's solid rear axle and disc and drum brake setup vis-a-vis the four-wheel disc brakes and independent suspension on the "firm-but-smooth" Porsche. Paradoxically, the larger disparity 22 years ago resulted in a closer result. Check out the video to see how the Summit was won.
