Malcolm Butler gets the MVP's Chevy Colorado

In the wake of the Super Bowl last week, we reported that New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady intended to give the Chevy Colorado awarded to him as the game's most valuable player to Malcolm Butler instead. In our informal poll (to say nothing of the hundred-plus comments that ensued), an overwhelming 86.7 percent of you, our loyal readers, agreed that it was the right thing to do. And now that's precisely what's happened. "After consulting Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady," the automaker said in the press release below, "Chevrolet presented an all-new Colorado pickup to New England Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler." The rookie, as you may have seen in between the commercials, made the game-saving interception that handed his team the victory, propelling Butler to stardom. "I am ecstatic that Chevrolet has chosen to reward me with a Colorado," said Butler upon taking delivery of his new red pickup. "It is just another unreal event in what has been an incredible week." Chevrolet only automaker to win EPA's 2015 Climate Leadership Awards

Chevrolet was the only automaker to be on the list of entities for the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Climate Leadership Awards. Of course, the accolades had nothing to do with any vehicle's tailpipe emissions, General Motors can still be proud. The automaker is engaging in what it calls the Chevrolet Clean Energy Campus Campaign. Chevy is working with the US Green Building Council, among other groups, to find ways for buildings in primary and secondary schools as well as college campuses to reduce their collective carbon footprint via better design. The EPA pointed out the "carbon performance methodologies" used by Chevrolet to run the program and spur lower emissions from its campus partners. The effort is part of Chevrolet's broader goal to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions by as many as 8 million metric tons of CO2. And it's going to take more than bunch of plug-in Volt and Spark EVs to do that. Other entities feted by the EPA include UPS, Bank of America, the cities of San Francisco and Oakland, Clorox and Tiffany & Co. Yes, Tiffany. We've all heard the horror stories. Your buddy knows a girl that was dating a guy whose best friend's brother once broke his brand-new, recently purchased performance car while making runs at a drag strip or laps at a track day, and the manufacturer wouldn't cover the repair under warranty. True story? Urban legend? Complete crap? Yes, no, maybe. One thing's for sure: Automotive warranties have always come with caveats. In 1908, an ad in the Trenton Evening Times clearly stated: "All Ford Cars Guaranteed for One Year." Although it changed over time, by 1925 the Ford New Car Guarantee only covered 90 days on material and 30 days on labor, and it clearly stated that that there was "No guarantee whatever on Fan Belts, Glass, Bulbs, Wiring, Transmission, Bands, Hose Connections, Commutator Shells, Rollers, Spark Plugs or Gaskets." Whether or not Ol' Henry would pay to fix your Model T if you broke it shaving a tenth off your lap time at the local board track seems to be lost to history. We're guessing no. But what about today? Do new-car warranties in 2017 cover cars when they are driven on race tracks? We researched the warranties of 14 auto brands to find out, and the answer is yes, no, maybe, depending on the brand, in some cases the model, and whether or not your car is modified from stock. No question," he told us. "However, if the car is modified, say with slick tires or other components that would put higher stresses on the vehicle's parts and systems, then we would have to investigate the circumstances further." Marie went on to say the same would be true for any Acura model or Honda vehicle, including the new 2017 Honda Civic Si. This became a common theme.
