Burningman Oddity - 1999 White Chevy Astro Van Awd - World Famous Story And Van on 2040-cars
Temple, Texas, United States
VAN IS LOCATED IN CALIFORNIA - The story of this van is a legend at Burningman, and has made it around the world. Since I bought the van, my life has been out of control. Whoever gets the van has some exciting times ahead. It just seems to have a mind of its own, and is always involved in some crazy events. I wonder what happened in it before I purchased it....WOW! All of the writing has washed off of the outside, and inside, except for 4 crosses on interior windows, and what is left on the dash board.
The van runs great still but the check engine light has been going on and off. When I ran injector cleaner through it stayed off for a while. I believe a good tune up and new plugs and a fuel filter will have it running great. It also needs new breaks and rotors.
The is the story. Anyone who copies or reproduced this story in any way without my permission will be sued. There is a book in the works and much more info to the story than is being used to sell the vehicle.
My Van And I - A Burningman 2013 True Story
ADDED....I found a job and went to work for a guy I just met installing glass. On my way to work one day I was greeted before I got to his home by several of his friends. They thought I was the EMS for some reason. I asked what was going on and was told that my boss was having a asthma attack and that they had called 911. I had just passed a bad rollover accident on the way to work and knew that all the EMS in the area were tied up. I rushed down to where he was laying on the ground getting CPR from a lady. I told them that the EMS was busy just down the street and offered to take him to them. We put him in the vehicle and drove him off of the property up to the main road where EMS was just showing up. When we pulled him from the van he was lifeless. CPR had continued on the drive and when we pulled him out blood from his lungs went all over the van. It was on my pillow and blankets. EMS tried to work on him but he was gone. I had just lost my boss, my job, and my place to sleep. I spent all the money I had made from working with him on hotel because I didn't want to sleep in the van where he died, and on new blankets and pillows. I just lost everything again. It was tough to move back into the van again and sleep where he had died, but I finally did it. This van is haunted! Believe me! My boss will be along for the ride. I always feel like I have company in the van now. Super creepy! His name is TJ, and I have named the van Moses. I don't want to loose it, but its just too cold..... : ) |

Chevy Bolt officially keeping name, says marketing boss
Thu, Apr 16 2015There might be just a little confusion at first, but the Bolt name is sticking around. After conducting two consumer studies into the name, Chevrolet isn't worried about the similarity of the monikers for the upcoming EV and existing Volt plug-in hybrid. In fact, the brand thinks the resemblance might be for the best. "The decision is made. The name won't be changed." Chevy head of marketing Tim Mahoney said to The Detroit Free Press. The research shows that the compatibility between the two names actually works quite well. With the Volt well established, people apparently already connect the Bolt to the Bowtie, which is just what a brand wants. Both studies indicated the ""same result, it did well," according to Mahoney. Just a few months ago, the future of the Bolt's name wasn't so clear. GM North America President Alan Batey said the company knew there might be confusion, and it was still mulling its options. The Bolt could be a breakthrough in the EV market with a 200-mile range and a possible price of around $30,000 after incentives. Production is set for the Orion Assembly plant in Michigan following a $200 million upgrade there, and the model could be in dealers as soon as 2017. That's just in time to take on the Tesla Model 3 with its claimed $35,000 price and similar driving distance as the Chevy. Related Video:
GM opens official investigation into C8 Corvette transmission leaks
Mon, Nov 1 2021In March 2020, a month after Chevrolet began customer deliveries of the 2020 C8 Corvette, a GM dealer technician created a Reddit thread about a leaking gearbox in a Corvette with 32 miles. That car hadn't even been sold yet. Since then, as a search of "C8 Corvette transmission leak" shows, it's been tales of woe for some owners. Something in the Tremec TR-9080 transaxle in the back of the mid-engined Corvette doesn't work as it should, the fault able to cause codes that the transmission needs service, or that the driver needs to shift to park. In some cases, the battery would die because of follow-on issues after the initial transmission code, that code preventing the car from powering down. As Autoevolution reports, GM filed paperwork with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in August to look into what's going on. Between forum threads and GM's investigation document, there are several issues mentioned. The most common appears to be the dual-clutch transmission leaking fluid due to gasket failures like the one suffered by one owner at 858 miles, and another for an owner currently enduring a second leaking transmission. The Midengined Corvette Forum reported that Chevy engineers redesigned the TR-9080 pan, fitting Corvettes with the new unit at some point in the 2021 model year. The original pan was stamped steel unit affixed to the engine with two studs and 13 bolts, plus "reinforcement plates." The updated pan is said to be a cast aluminum unit affixed with two studs and 17 bolts, omits the reinforcement plates, and gets a new machined new groove around its edge to seat the gasket seal. The GM paperwork now at the NHTSA mentions a P1789 code, and says one reason for it could be "debris on the park position sensor magnet causing an incorrect position reading to the TCM." This might be caused by another issue mentioned in forums, which is clogged transmission filters. GM gives instructions for returning transmission filters to the company, and a poster on one forum said the Corvette tech at the dealer where he bought his Corvette told him the automaker "requires every used transmission filter to be returned to GM." Whatever's going on, the problems haven't stopped, and they go beyond the P1789 code. Over the weekend, a 2022 Corvette owner posted on Corvette Forums that he got a check engine light on his car after just 850 miles.
J.D. Power study identifies top seats for your tush
Tue, Aug 29 2017File under News your fanny can use: The seating systems in the Ford Escape and Edge, the Audi A3, Chevrolet Cruze, Kia Cadenza, Porsche Cayenne and Toyota Tundra received top marks in a new J.D. Power study on seating and seat belt quality and satisfaction. The J.D. Power 2017 Seat Quality and Satisfaction Study asked more than 77,000 new owners and lessees of 2017 model-year cars and light trucks to rate their vehicle's seats and seat belts within the first 90 days of taking ownership. The survey is broken up into seven vehicle segments and scored on total seat problems per 100 within each segment, with awards presented to the seating system supplier. Canadian auto supplier Magna won three of seven first-place awards for its seating systems in the A3, Escape and Edge. Ireland-based Adient got top marks for its seats in the Cadenza and Cayenne. Lear Corp. won for the Cruze, and Avanzar Interior Technologies scored highest for seats in the Tundra. J.D. Power says its study is intended for automakers and suppliers with quality and satisfaction information to be used in developing and marketing seating systems. "But the results are just as interesting to a consumer audience," the company says. "After all, some drivers spend a considerable amount of time behind the wheel, and it's helpful to know which vehicles offer the most comfortable seats for those long commutes." Ain't that the truth. Ford was the only automaker whose seat systems, both manufactured by Magna, received top honors in two segments: the Escape for mass-market compact SUV and the Edge for mass-market midsize/large SUV. J.D. Power says it used 22 attributes to measure seat quality, three measures of seat belt quality and 12 to measure satisfaction. Awards were presented to the seating suppliers.
