Next Cadillac Escalade interior will have Mercedes-like screens
Tue, Jul 23 2019Not too long ago, we thought we got a glimpse at the next-generation Cadillac Escalade's interior. But as we have learned from the spy photographer who took it, those are actually for a different full-size GM SUV, probably the GMC Yukon. How can we know this? Well, that same photographer caught this SUV, and it has a fancier interior and a key Cadillac interior piece that proves this is actually the Cadillac interior. The big difference with this interior is the instrument cluster and infotainment system. The previous SUV we saw had a pretty conventional interior with plenty of buttons, a screen at the top of the center stack, and an instrument cluster under a plastic hood. On this presumed Cadillac SUV, it has one large monolith containing screens for instruments and infotainment. It's very much like what you'll find in Mercedes-Benz models. Unlike in Mercedes cars, this bank of screens appears to have some curve to it, orienting everything toward the driver. Besides the fancy screens that point to Cadillac, the shifter also clinches this as the Cadillac interior. It's the same monostable lever found in the latest Cadillacs such as the XT6 and CT5. Much of the rest of the interior has been pretty well covered. But we can tell that Cadillac is using some nice wood trim that appears to stretch across the dashboard. The dash itself also looks as though it will be rather low and minimalist. Like past Escalades, this will probably share most of its mechanicals with the Tahoe/Suburban, meaning it too will be making the long overdue switch to independent rear suspension. It will also likely continue to offer the 6.2-liter V8 and 10-speed automatic transmission as the only powertrain choice. We should see the new SUVs in the next couple of years.
2018 Cadillac XTS does its best CT6 impression
Mon, Jun 19 2017Although the Cadillac sedan lineup almost exclusively consists of rear-drive sedans, one last bastion of the old front-drive Caddy exists in the XTS. And it looks like the old-school XTS isn't going anywhere, since it just got a refresh that makes it look more like the CT6 and the CTS. This of course is a bit ironic considering the fact that the CT6 will look different in the near future. Until then, though, this update does make the XTS look more up-to-date. The main part of the headlights end higher up on the front fascia, while a strip of LED accent lights waterfall down the front bumper. The grille has slightly more sculpted slats, and the front badge has been scaled down a bit. There are no longer creases that unify the main grille and the lower one in the bumper, which help the car appear lower and wider than the outgoing model. At the back, the license plate position has been moved down to the bumper, and the trunk lid has more lines and creases. The taillights now have horizontal elements that extend toward the middle of the car. The exhaust finishers and the reverse light also look larger and more prominent now. The refreshed XTS also brings a couple of new trim options. There are new wheel designs both in 19- and 20-inch sizes. Inside, XTS buyers will be able to choose from three new color and upholstery combinations. Two of them, however, are exclusive to the Platinum trim level and come with semi-aniline leather seats. There's not really anything new mechanically with the 2018 XTS. The only major change seems to be a new tire design that is quieter and provides a smoother ride. Otherwise, the XTS will remain available with either the standard 3.6-liter V6 making 304 horsepower, or the optional 410-horsepower twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 in the V-Sport model. The standard engine comes with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and the V-Sport is only available with all-wheel drive. Pricing has yet to be released for the 2018 model year. Cadillac CTS wins 2014 Motor Trend Car of the Year [w/video]
Thu, 07 Nov 2013For the second time, the Cadillac CTS has been named Motor Trend's Car of the Year. After winning the COTY crown for 2008, the new-for-2014 CTS outdid the other two finalists for Car of the Year honors, the Mazda3 and its corporate cousin, the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.
What's notable about the Caddy's victory, though, is how it simply brushed off its competition. Both the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5 Series failed to make the finalist's bracket, leaving the CTS to claim victory. "It had to beat [Mercedes and BMW] on style, on performance, on comfort, and on quality. It has," Motor Trend said in its COTY recap for the CTS.
The team at Motor Trend praised the CTS chassis, calling it "fantastic," and citing weight advantage the Caddy has over the competition. There was also praise heaped on the car's engines, with the 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder getting nods of approval from the MT team. The team also raved about the VSport model and its twin-turbocharged V6, magnetic shocks and other performance accoutrements.
