Accident Free

Up for auction is my 2005 Cadillac STS which I used as my daily driver the past 2 years (My new DD is a 2013 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid). I bought the STS in 2012 with close to 70k miles and put on an additional 45k. As with all of my cars, this STS was babied throughout my entire ownership. I'm the guy that always chooses the parking space away from all of the other cars. I only use premium gasoline (89 octane or higher) and all my maintenance was performed at Suburban Cadillac (dealership) of Troy MI. I had OEM brakes and top of the line Michilin MXM4 tires installed just over a year ago at Sears Auto in Troy.

Cosmetically, there are no door dings at all. As stated earlier, I go through great lengths to preserve what I have and take great pride in ownership. I always wax and maintain the paint and people always comment on this cars color (Blue Chip Metallic - cost extra). The paint richness is really deep and shows no fading anywhere. As with the exterior, the interior is in excellent shape. The back seats look like they've never been sat in. I'm not a smoker and the two previous owners before me - likewise. Overall, this Cadillac shows it has had a pampered lifetime so far. It has never been in an accident. I will email a copy of the carfax if requested.

My commute everyday is 30 miles each way so I have put on a decent amount of miles in the past two years. All of (nearly 90%) of my driving is expressway (I-75 from Clarkston to Troy MI). I do have a fair amount of stone chips in the front bumper which I have personally touched up.

Mechanically, as I stated earlier, I always had my car serviced at the dealership (other than brakes and tires). I only use Mobil 1 oil for oil changes. I keep my service records and oil change receipts. The battery is a little over a year old (Purchased at interstate battery). Recent maintenance performed at Suburban Cadillac over this winter was a coolant/transmission fluid flush as recommended by my maintenance schedule.

About a year and a half ago I had to have a new throttle body installed. The only other "big fix" was two sensors that needed replacing in the engine. I asked them to check everything else when they were inside and nothing needed fixing. My bill for that was around $1800. The tires and brakes were over $2500 as I used OEM Factory parts. Calipers/Pads/Etc (FULL JOB).

The only issues I've ever encountered with this STS is a minor vibration when I'm idling at a stop light if I have the heated seats going plus window defroster/other electrical draw. Maybe this is a loose engine mount? I've never requested to get this checked because it is a rare occurrence and doesn't affect safety/performance. Also, the last time I had the car serviced, I was told that my water pump was ever so slightly starting to leak. I asked if it was something that needed to be replaced and they said it still has a good few years left in it and the leak was very minor. If I didn't already have plans to purchase a new car I would have definitely had this addressed. The back seat ashtray hinge is not connected properly so sometimes it falls off track if you open it. Lastly, there appears to be two of the really small led lights burnt out in my rear right taillight (hardly noticeable).

All in all, I absolutely love this car. It's VERY peppy with the N* V8 and fun to drive with the Rear Wheel Drive train. This STS is all stock with no aftermarket anything installed. I was considering buying one of those E&G aftermarket mesh grills but I decided to keep it stock. It is; however, about as close to fully optioned you could get for the year and the original purchaser paid extra for various options including the Blue chip paint.

Everything works. Shifts smooth, A/C blows ice cold, everything electrical works fine.

Feel free to contact me to discuss this car further if you would like. The car will be available for test drives/inspections. Please contact me to set something up.

The car has a CLEAR Michigan Title in my name.

I require a deposit of $1,000 at the end of the auction and the remainder within 3 days (I am flexible if need be).

Thanks and good luck on your bidding!

Bring back the Bronco! Trademarks we hope are actually (someday) future car names

Tue, Mar 17 2015

Trademark filings are the tea leaves of the auto industry. Read them carefully – and interpret them correctly – and you might be previewing an automaker's future product plans. Yes, they're routinely filed to maintain the rights to an iconic name. And sometimes they're only for toys and clothing. But not always. Sometimes, the truth is right in front of us. The trademark is required because a company actually wants to use the name on a new car. With that in mind, here's a list of intriguing trademark filings we want to see go from paperwork to production reality. Trademark: Bronco Company: Ford Previous Use: The Bronco was a long-running SUV that lived from 1966-1996. It's one of America's original SUVs and was responsible for the increased popularity of the segment. Still, it's best known as O.J. Simpson's would-be getaway car. We think: The Bronco was an icon. Everyone seems to want a Wrangler-fighter – Ford used to have a good one. Enough time has passed that the O.J. police chase isn't the immediate image conjured by the Bronco anymore. Even if we're doing a wish list in no particular order, the Bronco still finds its way to the top. For now (unfortunately), it's just federal paperwork. Rumors on this one can get especially heated. The official word from a Ford spokesman is: "Companies renew trademark filings to maintain ownership and control of the mark, even if it is not currently used. Ford values the iconic Bronco name and history." Trademarks: Aviator, AV8R Company: Ford Previous Use: The Aviator was one of the shortest-run Lincolns ever, lasting for the 2003-2005 model years. It never found the sales success of the Ford Explorer, with which it shared a platform. We Think: The Aviator name no longer fits with Lincoln's naming nomenclature. Too bad, it's better than any other name Lincoln currently uses, save for its former big brother, the Navigator. Perhaps we're barking up the wrong tree, though. Ford has made several customized, aviation themed-Mustangs in the past, including one called the Mustang AV8R in 2008, which had cues from the US Air Force's F-22 Raptor fighter jet. It sold for $500,000 at auction, and the glass roof – which is reminiscent of a fighter jet cockpit – helped Ford popularize the feature. Trademark: EcoBeast Company: Ford Previous Use: None by major carmakers.

GM seeks national mandate for zero-emissions cars

Fri, Oct 26 2018

DETROIT — General Motors says it will ask the federal government for one national gas mileage standard, including a requirement that a percentage of auto companies' sales be zero-emissions vehicles. Mark Reuss, GM's executive vice president of product development, said the company will propose that a certain percentage of nationwide sales be made up of vehicles that run on electricity or hydrogen fuel cells. GM says a nationwide program modeled on such a requirement in California could result in 7 million electric vehicles, or EVs, on U.S. roads by 2030. California wants 15.4 percent of vehicle sales by 2025 to be EVs or other zero emission vehicles. Nine other states, including Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York, have adopted those requirements. In January, California Governor Jerry Brown set a target of 5 million zero-emission vehicles in California by 2030. The Trump administration criticizes California's ZEV mandate, saying it requires automakers to spend tens of billions of dollars developing vehicles that most consumers do not want, only to sell them at a loss. Reuss told reporters that governments and industries in Asia and Europe "are working together to enact policies now to hasten the shift to an all-electric future. It's very simple: America has the opportunity to lead in the technologies of the future." A national mandate also would create jobs and reduce fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and "make EVs more affordable," Reuss added. GM, the nation's largest automaker, will spell out the request Friday in written comments on a Trump administration proposal to roll back Obama-era fuel economy and emissions standards, freezing them at 2020 levels instead of gradually making them tougher. Under a regulation finalized by the Environmental Protection Agency at the end of the Obama administration, the fleet of new automobiles would have to get 36 miles per gallon by 2025, 10 mpg higher than the current requirement. But the Trump administration's preferred plan is to freeze the standards starting in 2021. Administration officials say waiving the tougher fuel efficiency requirements would make vehicles more affordable, which would get safer cars into consumer hands more quickly. GM on Thursday said it doesn't support the freeze, but wants flexibility to deal with consumers' shift from cars to less-efficient SUVs and trucks.

Cadillac's striking Escala concept is reportedly headed for production

Mon, Mar 19 2018

Cadillac is reportedly planning a new flagship four-door, and it won't be based on its alphanumeric naming system a la the CT6. It'll be the Escala, the stunning concept fastback it revealed in 2016 in Pebble Beach. The news comes via Autoline, which cites AutoForecast Solutions. The Escala is said to be planned for production starting in December 2021 at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck plant, which currently builds the CT6, Buick LaCrosse and Chevrolet Volt and Impala. That suggests the Escala, which was branded as a four-door coupe, will likely keep that layout. It'll also be built on the CT6 platform. Cadillac has been talking about fitting a flagship sedan above the CT6 for years, and the Escala's design language has been influencing bits of other Cadillac models, from the refresh of the CT6 to the broad grille shape on the new XT4 crossover, which debuts at the New York Auto Show next week. The concept Escala featured a wide, muscular stance and a minimalist, white mid-century modern interior aesthetic, with tail lamps that evoke waterfowl in flight. Interestingly, it came equipped with a 4.2-liter twin-turbo V8 with cylinder deactivation, which Cadillac President Johan De Nysschen said at the time was "absolutely worthy of a car of this caliber." But with such a long horizon before production, there's obviously lots of time to develop a more pragmatic production model and cue ravenous speculation. Or, for that matter, to decide to rename it something like the CT8.
