1989 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 (2013 MCA Indy National Event Show Winner) I had this car listed earlier this year here on EBay, but it did not sell as it did not hit my reserve price. I am actually kind of glad it didn't sell, because just shortly after I had it listed the transmission went out and the last thing I will do is misrepresent something. It now has a new trans. and is ready to go. I do have more invested in the car than I am asking, but isn't that the way it always is? If you are looking for a VERY Clean and nice Foxbody Mustang, than this is the one for you! Up for auction is this rare color combination 1989 Mustang LX 5.0 - This car is just one of the few left out there that isn't cut up and been made into a race car. The engine is all stock and original with only 60,955 miles. The only performance addition is an K&N air filter. I did install a new water pump, 160 degree thermostat, belt tensioner pulley, intake gaskets, timing chain gasket, oil pan gasket, serpentine belt, hoses, and a new aluminum radiator when I detailed the engine compartment. All new A/C components include, compressor, receiver/dryer, condenser, and hoses. The A/C has been converted to 134A and blows ice cold. The car has a fresh rebuilt transmission with "less than 50 miles on it", done by Dan Gilsdorf at Silverfox Transmissions. For the internal information regarding this AOD-450 click on this link http://www.silverfoxtrans.com/silverfoxtrans.com/TM_AOD-450.html. Also installed in the transmission is a hi-performance valve body from Silverfox Transmissions. The SPT-R (with a manual O/D lock-out valve body really woke this car up)! The shift pattern is altered so that the user can command each gear separately, and has a 12 volt solenoid for overdrive engagement. No more “1-D-1 Shuffle”!!! This VB can be shifted manually to higher gears while the lower gears maintain fully automatic function controlled with TV pressure. I hid the 12V toggle switch for this feature in the ash tray located on the console. I also went ahead and installed a brand new Circle D torque convertor as Dan recommended. This link shows the specs. for the convertor. https://www.circledspecialties.com/p-64-ford-12-hp-4r100-torque-converter.aspx With the new 8.8 3.73:1 Ford Motorsports rear gear the car BARKS the tires in the 1-2 shift and CHERPS the tires in the 2-3 shift. It has the 5-lug conversion kit from Late Model Mustang with 28- Spline axles. Has the factory headers with a BBK H-Pipe & Flowmaster American Thunder 409S stainless steel kit w/ polished tips. (I still have the original pipe with the convertors that will go with the car). The car has an awesome stance as it has Eiback Sportline lowering kit which dropped it 1.7" in the front and 1.5" in the rear. New front KYB Struts and Maximum Motorsports caster/camber plates for the proper frontend alignment. New KYB rear shocks also. New front disc brakes & bearings as part of the 5-lug conversion. Wheels are Billet Specialties Street Lites. Front is 15x3.5 w/1.75 Backspacing, the rears are 15x8 w/5.5 Backspacing. (no tire rubbing issues). The front tires are Kumbo Power Star 165/80R-15 and the rears are Nitto Drag Radials 275/50-15. (The factory 4-lug 10 hole wheels go with the car also.) The exterior color is Cabernet Red with a RARE interior color of Saddle Tan. The car has all of its original NOS sheet medal & body panels and upholstery & carpet. Again this car is very clean and highly detailed. It has won Best of Show in it's class at the Arthritis show in Dublin, OH in 2012 and it was a Class winner at the 2013 Race to Indy Mustang Club of America National Event in Indianapolis, IN YouTube video of this car at http://youtu.be/gbpsssHBSQk Car is For Sale AS-IS with No Warranty. Also For Sale locally and can be removed from EBay before the end of the auction. Require a $500.00 deposit via PayPal within 24 hours of the sale. Balance can be made via PayPal or Cash in person. My reserve price is set very reasonable for this grade and quality of automobile. It is the buyers responsibility to have car inspected if you feel the need to. Also buyers responsibility for all shipping charges. The vehicle is located in Greenwood, IN 46143. |

Man trapped in Cadillac XLR for 14 hours after battery dies
Thu, Sep 13 2018A 75-year old Cleveland man ended up trapped in his 2006 Cadillac XLR for 14 hours last month, according to a story reported by the Detroit Free Press. The owner of the car, Peter Pyros, hopped into his roadster to back out onto his driveway, but he quickly learned that the battery was dead. He was "trapped" because the doors use an electric button to activate the door latch to open the door. Since the battery was dead, the buttons did nothing. Now, GM planned for an eventuality like this by placing a manual door release handle on the ground next to the seat. It's marked with a red diagram of the driver-side door opening. There's also a section about it in the owner's manual. The only problem here, was that Pyros says he didn't know the release was there, and he didn't have his owner's manual in the car. Because of this, Pyros may not have made it out alive if not for a neighbor coming to his rescue. "I came to the conclusion that I was going to die ... I was at peace with it. I asked God to help me twice, then I said, 'OK, God if this is the way I'm supposed to die, I will die,'" Pyros said to reporters. There's every chance he could have died in the car, too. Temperatures in Cleveland hit 77 degrees the day he was in the car, and he said it was unbearably hot and difficult to breathe after only 30 minutes sealed inside. Pyros reportedly tried yelling, pounding on and even trying to break the car's windows without success. At one point, Pyros wrote a note to his nephew explaining what happened if he ended up dying. What eventually saved him was a curious neighbor who came to investigate after he noticed his garage door was still open late at night. His neighbor called the police after he found him in the car, and emergency personnel actually ended up charging his car's battery up enough to get the electric door release to work. Of course, after everything settled down, there are now lawyers involved. They're going after GM, with an argument accusing the automaker of not making the emergency latch more obvious both in the car and in the owner's manual. GM doesn't appear to be having any of it. Here's its statement on the matter: "Because this varies by make and model, drivers should review the door lock section of their owner's manual, and follow up with their dealer or customer assistance center if they have any questions," GM spokesman Tom Wilkinson wrote to the Free Press. This type of door release isn't particularly uncommon for GM vehicles.
[UPDATE] Cadillac Blackwing gets ticket to Italy, to go to work in a supercar
Mon, Mar 9 2020UPDATE: It seems MAT's belief it had secured a supply of Cadillac's 4.2-liter Blackwing V8 was premature, and based on a handshake deal before GM sold its Turin engine center to Italy's Punch Group. Shortly after Hagerty ran the story, GM sent a statement to the outlet reading, in part, "We do not have an agreement in place with Manifattura Automobili Torino (MAT) to provide or sell the Blackwing engine. ... Our team is following up with MAT president Paolo Garella to discuss the misunderstanding." MAT also submitted a statement to Hagerty, saying, in part, "We thank GM for the clarification. Although a signed agreement was not finalized between the parties, we were under the impression that our counterpart was committing to making this engine available to MAT at conditions yet to be defined. ... We hope that this misunderstanding will not compromise our relations with GM and possible future collaborations." The original article follows: Some necessary cost-cutting at Cadillac led to switching the new CT4, CT5, and Escalade to older platforms. The revised architecture plan meant Cadillac's newest top-tier products couldn't fit Cadillac's newest top-tier engine, the 4.2-liter twin-turbo DOHC V8 known as Blackwing. That engine would serve limited duty at full power in the now-dead CT6-V, and at reduced output in the CT6 Platinum V8 trim before ending its bright, brief domestic life. But the story isn't over, the rebirth of Blackwing coming from a most surprising locale: Turin, Italy. Before the canceled Geneva Motor Show, Hagerty spoke to Paolo Garella, CEO of Manifattura Automobili Torino; that's the company better known as MAT, makers of the New Stratos and contract engineering house for boutique screamers like the Aspark Owl electric hypercar, Apollo Intensa Emozione, and SCG003C. Garella told the outlet, "We have an agreement with General Motors" for a supply of Blackwings, which would be developed and built at the General Motors Propulsion Engineering Center (PEC) in Turin. Since 2005, the PEC has been used to develop GM's global diesel engines and electronics. MAT's plan is to put the V8 into a new limited-run car MAT is creating from its own design. Then another surprising turn: Belgium-based global auto supplier Punch Group bought the PEC, with plans to work with GM on projects in progress until at least the end of 2021. Nothing changes as far as MAT is concerned, except perhaps a chance for an even closer collaboration with Punch Turin.
GM pauses 3.0-liter turbodiesel production due to a supplier shortage
Mon, Aug 30 2021General Motors confirmed it has temporarily stopped taking orders for trucks and SUVs equipped with the 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel six-cylinder engine. It blamed the last-minute pause on a supplier-related shortage. Website TFL Truck first reported the news, and a representative from General Motors quickly confirmed it. The spokesperson explained the issue is due to a "temporary part shortage" and added that production will resume "as soon as possible," meaning the Duramax engine (which is called LM2 internally) is not going away permanently. Additional details are not available, so we don't know if the issue is related to the ongoing chip shortage. Rather than delay deliveries and create a backlog, General Motors is reportedly asking its dealers to encourage buyers who want a turbodiesel engine to instead select either the 5.3-liter V8 or the 6.2-liter V8, depending on the model selected. Both are gasoline-powered units. There's no word yet on when Duramax production will resume. The shortage affects several models, including Chevrolet's Tahoe, Suburban, and Silverado 1500 and GMC's variants of these trucks. Cadillac's Escalade is temporarily diesel-less as well. Heavy Duty variants of the Silverado and the Sierra are not affected because they're powered by a different Duramax engine with eight cylinders. Motorists seeking a full-size SUV powered by an efficient turbodiesel engine are temporarily out of options because the Tahoe/Yukon and the Suburban/Yukon XL had the segment to themselves. The Duramax was surprisingly popular, too: in May 2021, GM Authority reported that the turbodiesel straight-six represented 8% of Suburban sales and 6% of Tahoe sales. Installed in a rear-wheel-drive Tahoe, the engine returns 21 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway, and 24 mpg in a combined cycle, figures that make the body-on-frame behemoth more efficient than the unibody, front-wheel-drive Chevrolet Blazer that's 20 inches shorter and approximately 1,700 pounds lighter.
