This thing is a BEAST!!
Its 19 feet long! Weighs 5,000 pounds! Its black and covered in chrome! It has a 7 liter engine generating 480 foot-pounds of torque! IT IS UNREAL! The vehicle in particular is a 1964 Series 60/Fleetwood Cadillac. This is a fairly uncommon vehicle, with some really interesting features: -14,500 were made in the 1964 model year, with a sticker price of $6,366 -It was the final Cadillac year to have fins: The body was transitioning from the spaceship body era of the early 60s to the giant brick body era of the late 60s. -It was the first year for the 7L/429 cubic inch engine, making ~340 hp w/ ~480 ftlb torque -It was also among the first vehicles with the then new GM Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission. It offers 3 speeds. The TH series is still more-or-less in use TODAY, and is found in humvees! -A trunk that will fit a half-dozen bodies -Creature-comforts wise, it included an AM radio with retractable antenna, air conditioning (!!!), and an automatic headlight dimmer that would detect on-coming cars, and power windows, locks, and seats. -Seat belts! Now for specifics on this vehicle. I have the title free and clear and in my name. For you out of state shoppers, the windshield wipers, horn, and lights all work. For the most part, the car is in good shape, especially for an unmolested 51 year old! It isn't perfect! There is some body rust and poor body repairs that would need to be addressed before winning any car shows. The window weatherstripping is shot, and the paint-job looks as good as you would expect a 20 year old back yard job to look! If you leave her out in the rain she gets a bad mildew smell. Both the transmission and the power steering like to leak ATF. I've never replaced the windshield wiper blades. The starter solenoid cracked in half and was glued back together. Windshield wiper sprayer is broke and GONE! Windshield is a little frosted. Power locks and power seats don't work. While all the big windows work, the power corner windows are hit-or-miss. The odometer says something like 35000, but I have my doubts about when it worked last (shes low miles for sure, but actual miles ?). AC does not work, and I've never troubleshot it. That being said, she is totally road worthy and a blast to own! I had her out on the interstate today! She has had a lot of work done immediately before and during my ownership. A list of repairs follows: -reupholstered some time around 20 years ago?? -new thermostat and tires (tires probably have less than 1000 miles on them. Effectively new.) -new horn relay and varied windshield wiper linkage repairs -converted to a modern Edelbrock carburetor (note* you can generally expect some hp and torque gains with these new carbs. The ~340hp ~480 ftlb torque is from internet sources on original equipment) -new 'cat-back' equivalent exhaust from GAP automotive -rebuilt brake master cylinder and vacuum booster, and replacement front slave cylinders -new battery, alternator, and voltage regulator (no its not built into the alternator!) -patched floor pan under the drivers feet -JUST FINISHED replacing all fuel supply lines and fuel pump. Also installed filters before and after the pump Also some free stuff is included: new-old-stock muffler, replacement OGPI floor pans, original air cleaner, some empty schlitz bottles, and an old bible! Vehicle actually appears to have the original jack and wrenches for spare tires. Also: a roll of replacement trunk weatherstripping. All told, she is a good machine. Could use some TLC. This beast still has a goddamn frame with no rust/no unibody bs! And she runs like a scalded dog! Now to answer why I am selling: I bought this thing around 3 years ago, but moved 1.5 years ago. While I have a garage at the new place, access is limited and she is anything but practical for me to work on or get out to drive about town (if you come to see her and we take her out, you'll totally understand me! As such I think its time for her to go. I'll eventually move and have a good space for the next project. ** the headliner is fine/doesn't have weird stains. Those weird lines are bright reflections coming off of the door trim. ****For more pics contact me or find my listing on Louisville's Craigslist It is for sale locally, and I do reserve the right to cancel the auction. Winning bidders must submit a $1000 deposit within 48 hours via paypal or other agreed means. Total due on pickup in cash. This vehicle must be out of my hands within 8 calender days of sale. |

Johan de Nysschen tells his side of the story
Tue, Apr 23 2019Automobile snagged time with ex-Cadillac, Infiniti, and Volkswagen of America boss Johan de Nysschen. General Motors decided to part ways with de Nysschen on April 18, 2018, after the German spent four years in charge of America's luxury brand. The longtime auto exec is a polarizing figure for enthusiasts, who seem to take a mostly negative view of his work at Infiniti and Cadillac. However, there's no denying de Nysschen is frank, and in the Automobile interview he puts an insider's perspective on a big bag of issues we can only speculate on. One of the biggest bombshells in the interview was that it wasn't de Nysschen's idea to move Cadillac to New York: "When I was recruited, I was informed that the company would relocate to New York," he said. Previous GM CEO Dan Ackerson had made the decision before hiring de Nysschen, then Ackerson let his new hire make the announcement. The big change came only two years after de Nysschen had taken over Infiniti after insisting Nissan's luxury brand move to Hong Kong. De Nysschen explained Cadillac's NYC move with the same rationale as Infiniti's Hong Kong move, so everyone assumed the new guy was doing his usual. He explains in the interview that after the move, "Folks who rooted for Detroit felt betrayed. Cadillac had an enemy." And that became a problem. He has nothing bad to say about GM or Cadillac, believing on the contrary that "GM is in a good position going forward." But he brought clarity to some of Cadillac's struggles. Among the issues was GM's "very vigorous" post-bankruptcy test for green-lighting a project. Another was the lack of specialization for the luxury arm. "Engines were generically developed with the Chevy brand in mind," he said, "and, then, 'Okay, well, yeah, it's good enough for Cadillac.'" That carried over into haphazard technology rollouts. "GM didn't have a specific technology roadmap aligned to particular brands," he said. "The process was, as they were developing new technologies, they would look at what product's launch date would be aligned with the maturation date and market readiness of a technology and go with it, whether Buick, Chevy, or what have you." De Nysschen worked to end such generalized approaches, which is how we get Cadillac taking the GM lead on technology and electrification.
GM cars and SUVs recalled for leaking transmission fluid
Thu, Nov 5 2020General Motors is recalling more than 194,000 vehicles from 2018 to 2020 due to transmission fluid leaks. The leaks stem from an auto stop-start component that may have been installed with loose or missing bolts. The leaking fluid can affect the transmission's performance, and if it leaks onto a hot exhaust component, could potentially cause a fire. GM says that to date, it knows of no accidents or injuries related to the defect. The issue affects models from all four GM divisions. From Chevrolet, the affected vehicles are: 2018 Malibu, 2018–2019 Cruze, 2018–2020 Equinox, 2018–2020 Traverse, 2019–2020 Blazer At Buick, the following models are included: 2018–2019 LaCrosse, 2019–2020 Encore, 2019–2020 Enclave, At GMC, the recall includes: 2018–2020 Terrain, 2019–2020 Acadia Cadillac has two affected vehicles: 2019–2020 XT4 and 2020 XT6 The recall is scheduled to begin in mid-December. Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted. Dealers will inspect the transmission accumulator, and replace those with loose or missing bolts.
