It would be an opportunity to reveal brand new models, and say goodbye to others. It would mark the last year for the V-16 engine option in the Ninety Series, and also the final production year of the LaSalle line with a one year run of the new LaSalle Special series. A new Cadillac Series 62 model was unveiled, along with a one year only Series 72 model. A total of seven distinct Cadillac series designs were available, all with various body choices to choose from. Of them, the rarest in 1940 were the premium Series 75 Cadillac-Fleetwood models, especially in convertible form! We are extremely excited to have an opportunity to showcase this beautifully restored 1940 Cadillac Series 75 Fleetwood Convertible Sedan! It represents one of 45 ever manufactured with body number #12! Finished in classic Black (correct color code 1) with Gray Leather interior, accented with Tan Canvass top and matching boot cover. The original 346ci L-Head V8 engine with Stromberg downdraft carburetion remains under the hood with 3-speed transmission, along with a spunky 4.58:1 factory rear end ratio providing the motivation! This particular example was delivered new to the Chicago Branch of the Cadillac Motor Car Co. on October 30th, 1939 with a host of features! This includes a very rare roll-up division window for added rear passenger privacy, dual side mounts spare tires with steel covers & gorgeous Cadillac mirrors mounted on each side, optional running boards, heater/defrost, push-button AM radio, rear passenger foot rests, Fleetwood monogramed rear clock, front bumper guard, rear trunk light, BF Goodrich wide whitewall tires measuring 7.50x16, and more! This outstanding road-going Fleetwood rests on a 141” chassis, and offer the driver a manner of a much smaller vehicle once behind the wheel. The engine starts with perfect ease, and runs so quiet you feel the need to depress the gas pedal to ensure it is still running! An aftermarket water temperature gauge has been added to monitor the engine vitals, but all other instrumentation remains functional. It survives most recently from a prominent Texas collection, and an Atlanta, GA collector prior to that. It remains a very solid car with excellent paint presentation one must truly see in person to fully admire! The chrome appears original and still in remarkable condition! It will go to its new owner with a cloth-wrapped tool kit and a chauffer’s hat. For collectors of rare pre-WWII American cars, this vehicle should not be overlooked! Our remarkable, 5-passenger Convertible Sedan may be to only one to find its way to the market in the next decade! Another featuring the partition window glass may never be seen again. Act quickly! Please feel welcome to call with questions, or schedule a chance to review this Cadillac in person! We look forward to working with you!

General Motors is making a big move at its Hamtramck, MI, factory, announcing it will add a second shift and hire over 1,200 workers within the next several months. It's expected that by early 2016, the factory will employ over 2,800 workers to build the Chevrolet Volt, Impala, Malibu, Cadillac ELR, and by early next year, the new CT6. According to GM Hamtramck spokesperson Courtney Zemke, 40 of the 1,200 positions are for salaried employees, while the remainder will be hourly positions. As for where these employees will go, positions are being made available across the factory, so GM isn't focusing on any particular area for its new hires. It's a similar story behind the hiring surge itself. GM said in its press release that the "second shift is necessary to meet forecasted market demand," a position Zemke reiterated. It's a matter of demand across the plant's portfolio, rather than any one particular product seriously outstripping supply. Naturally, the United Auto Workers is happy with the move. "The workforce at Detroit-Hamtramck is second to none," UAW Local 22 Shop Chairman Don LaForest said in the attached release. "We appreciate the opportunity to expand our UAW-GM family." Hiring is going on now, with the second shift slated to get underway in early 2016. GM's Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly to Add Second Shift and More Than 1,200 Jobs Plant will nearly double its workforce by early 2016 2015-10-22 DETROIT – General Motors is nearly doubling its workforce at Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly by adding a second shift and more than 1,200 hourly and salaried jobs. The addition of a second shift will increase the plant's workforce to approximately 2,800 people when hiring is completed. The second shift is necessary to meet forecasted market demand for the five cars produced at Detroit-Hamtramck. "This is the result of the award-winning vehicles Detroit-Hamtramck produces and the confidence GM has in our team to build world-class quality for our customers," said Plant Manager Gary West. Second shift hiring is underway, and the shift is scheduled to begin operations in early 2016. "The workforce at Detroit-Hamtramck is second to none," said UAW Local 22 Shop Chairman Don LaForest. "We appreciate the opportunity to expand our UAW-GM family." The 4.1 million-square-foot Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly opened in 1985. GM has invested $1 billion in the plant over the last six years, making it one of the company's most-agile manufacturing facilities in North America.

Every fall, we line up a range of new models with the latest and most compelling automotive technology from the past year. We test everything from semi-autonomous systems like Tesla's Autopilot to trick suspension setups like the Multimatic spool-valve shocks on the Chevy Colorado ZR2. We spend months paring down the list to a small group of contenders. After testing, dinner and healthy debate, we tally up the votes and name our winner. For Autoblog's 2019 Technology of the Year Award, our three finalists are the Cadillac CT6 with Super Cruise, the Infiniti QX50 with Variable Compression Turbo and the Mercedes-AMG E 53 with EQ Boost. Super Cruise is an advanced SAE Level 2 semi-autonomous system, though Cadillac (unlike some of its rivals) is reluctant to push that point. Cadillac would like you to think of this as an advanced driver assistance feature rather than a semi-autonomous system. Super Cruise allows completely hands-free highway driving. Thanks to a driver-facing camera, the system forces the driver to keep his or her eyes on the road even if hands are off the wheel. Although the CT6 is being discontinued, look for Super Cruise to make its way to other Cadillacs soon. VC Turbo is a little more complicated. Basically, Infiniti's 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four can vary the compression ratio on the fly. In general, turbocharged engines are more efficient than naturally-aspirated engines when on boost, but can perform worse at low revs. VC Turbo allows for a best-of-both-worlds situation, increasing the compression at low revs and backing it off once the turbo spools up. The best part is that it does so seamlessly, with only a dash readout letting you know what's going on under the hood. Our third finalist is the EQ Boost 48-volt system in the Mercedes-AMG E 53. Like VC Turbo, EQ Boost does a lot just beneath the surface. Mercedes has developed a new turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and paired it with a small electric motor. While the car can't run on electricity alone, the motor helps improve both efficiency and performance, smoothing shifts and filling in low-end torque before the turbos spool up. Think torque fill, similar to a McLaren P1. Who can complain about better fuel economy and more torque? Look for the 48-volt system to make its way into most of the Mercedes-Benz lineup. The winner will be revealed next week on Autoblog, and we'll present the award Jan. 15 at the Detroit Auto Show. Related Video:

General Motors and the United Auto Workers are going on a recruitment drive at the Spring Hill factory in Tennessee, and they're hoping to poach some skilled workers from Nissan's nearby plant in Smyrna, TN. The General and the union even bought a billboard advertising for industrial electricians near the Japanese automaker's facility, according to the Daily News Journal. The reason for the billboard was simple. "GM was short of electricians," said Tim Stannard, the president of the UAW local at Spring Hill, to the Daily News Journal. The factory currently builds the Chevrolet Equinox but has a contract to assemble the next generation of Ecotec engines and the Cadillac XT5, which replaces the SRX. Thanks to the $185-million deal, employment there is expected to double by May 2016, according to Stannard, with roughly 1,800 additional union jobs. Beyond just several billboards, GM has job postings online for the Spring Hill plant looking for workers with specific skills. There has already been some interest in the positions among Nissan employees, Stannard indicated. According to a recent study by the Center for Automotive Research, the average GM worker currently makes $58 an hour, including benefits. Comparatively, Nissan pays an average of $42 an hour with benefits. The General's number could change in the coming weeks because its contract with the UAW is about to expire, and higher wages are among the major negotiating points.
