GM moving international sales HQ to Singapore from Shanghai

General Motors has announced that it will be moving its international headquarters from Shanghai to Singapore, a move that will see 120 employees working from the city-state by the time business opens in 2014. Meanwhile, 250 to 300 of the employees at the Shanghai office will remain in China, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal.
The shuffle is part of a bigger reorganization that will see GM isolate its operations in the People's Republic from its broader international efforts. This sort of divide-and-conquer strategy will allow GM to still react to emerging markets while, according to the WSJ, providing a dedicated management team for the Chinese market. The team in Singapore will be responsible for operations in Africa, southeast Asia, Australia, India, South Korea and the Middle East, on top of managing Chevrolet and Cadillac in Europe, according to a statement from GM.
The shift to Singapore "will help us to create a renewed identity for CIO (Consolidated International Operations) and lead GM's umbrella strategy for the region," said GM Executive Vice President of CIO, Stefan Jacoby.

GM recalls nearly 340,000 large SUVs to fix daytime running lights

General Motors has initiated a recall campaign for more than 338,000 of its large SUVs to address a potential defect in the onboard computer software that controls the daytime running lights. In some cases, the DRLs may remain on even when the headlights are enabled, which creates additional glare for oncoming drivers at night and fails to comply with federal regulations for headlight performance.  "GM determined that the body control module (BCM) software in these vehicles, under a combination of certain pre-conditions, may fail to deactivate the DRLs when the headlamps are on," GM's recall report said. "A regulatory assessment was conducted to evaluate whether the condition presented a potential noncompliance with the DRL activation requirements in S7.10.5, Table I-a. of FMVSS 108. On October 27, 2022, GM’s Safety Field Action Decision Authority (SFADA) decided to conduct a recall for potential noncompliance with this standard." GM says the recall covers the 2021 model year GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, and 2021 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV. The company says all models produced within that operating window include the improperly programmed body control module, meaning all vehicles within the recall population may exhibit the problem. The issue was discovered by a GM engineer during validation testing in August, prompting a deeper investigation and eventually leading to the recall itself.   The module's software can be updated by GM dealers, so it should be a quick fix for customers. Cadillac Blackwing models will finally be revealed in February

It's been a little over a year and a half since Cadillac reworked the V line of performance sedans and teased something above its regular V cars. In that time, we've seen camouflaged prototypes and a teaser for a manual shifter with a 3D-printed topper, but hardly anything about specifications. That should all change next month. The company released a teaser announcing the reveal of the Cadillac Blackwing variants of the CT4-V and CT5-V on Feb. 1. The teaser hardly shows anything of the cars except a brief shot of someone shifting, and what sounds like a fairly ferocious V8 exhaust note. Based on prototypes and rumors, we're expecting the CT5-V to use a supercharged 6.2-liter V8, rather than the unique DOHC turbocharged V8 from the CT6-V, and the CT4-V will likely have a turbocharged V6. The CT5-V has also been spied with quite a bit of tire, 305-mm in the rear and 275-mm in the front. Based on these car's similarly powered predecessors, the ATS-V and CTS-V, they should be extremely entertaining. Related Video:
