Rare 1981 Eldorado Convertible up for auction with NO RESERVE

Fuel injected 368 V8, 94k original miles. True dependable Caddy 368, not the underpowered HT4100 engine found in the 82 and up models. The previous owner told me that all the 4-6-8 components were removed by Cadillac dealer when it was new, now it's a smooth running, dependable fuel injected 368. With the overdrive transmission the Caddy will get over 20 mpg on the highway. Digital dash, digital climate control, power top with automatic window lowering and raising with top operation. Original cadillac AM/FM stereo cassette (working), automatic ride leveling (also operational), tilting, tescoping wheel, automatic headlights and triple fender light indicators. C&C (Classic Cadillac) full size chrome grill with extra chrome section for nose of hood, very sharp looking.

Mechanically the Caddy has four new whitewall radials (less than 500 miles on them), fuel injection service (cleaning and replacement of a couple of injectors) recent brakes, tuneup, some new exhaust parts, oil change and belts and hoses. The digital dash is intermittent, will display properly then the numbers will flicker. The driver's power seat is intermittent as well, the switch needs cleaning or replacing. The top and windows work properly, all raise and lower at once. The engine compartment is remarkably clean. The engine turns over easily, the fuel injection allowing a simple turn of the key to start the car.

Cosmetically the Eldorado shows very well, repainted about ten years ago in a nice metallic teal shaded dark blue, close to the original color but with a modern metallic finish, it sparkles in the sun. All the bumper and fender fillers were replaced when the Caddy was painted. Some spots have been touched up in the last couple of years, only visible up close. The bumpers are in good shape, no dents or scratches, the chrome gleams. The seats had some tears in the leather so the previous owner had black heated seat cushions installed  over the pillow top sections, it's very nice for top down cruising on chilly summer nights. An upholstery shop did it; it's held on with strong adhesive and fasteners, it doesn't move when you get in and out of the car. The back seat has a standard  bench seat cover, black to match the front. The dash has two sun cracks in the center, they are almost symmetrical, only noticeable when you're in the car. The door panels and rear panels are nice, the only flaw being a small crack in the vinyl at the top of the driver's door panel where your arm rests when the window is down. The top was replaced in 2000, one area beginning to fray by the rear top driver's side corner. The top is nicely upholstered inside, nice and quiet on the highway when the top and windows are up. The Eldorado has a nice cushioned boot cover to snap on when the top is down. The original spoke hubcaps are in great shape, chrome shines, no dents or scrapes.

These are all the pix I have right now, I'm away on business and I just found out I'm losing storage. These are the pix I submitted for Classic Insurance, just all four sides with the top up is what they require ($190 a year for full comprehensive). This is a ten day auction and I should be home in time to take a some full size pix of the Caddy all around. If not, you can check my feedback- I'm a classic car nut with a particular fondness for Caddies and buyers have been pretty happy with the cars I've sold. I reserve the right to end the auction early as the Eldo is for sale locally and I'm open to buy it now offers as well. Cruises nicely on the highway, holds the road perfectly. Engine starts easily, doesn't leak anything, garage floor always dry when I pull her out. Runs very strong, tracks straight as an arrow and brakes evenly. She idles well, shifts smoothly, stops easily and the suspension is luxurious. Drives overall like a Caddy should. She's roadworthy, all directional/brake/turn signal/headlights work as well as the horn and wipers. The floors, trunk and frame are solid as the Caddy has been a Garage Queen.

Rare, classic Caddy convertible that will only appreciate in value. Any questions feel free to email or call 914-224-3230

2021 Cadillac Escalade getting a star-studded introduction

Fri, Dec 13 2019

Now that Chevrolet's Tahoe and Suburban are out of the bag, it's Cadillac's turn to introduce its new body-on-frame SUV. The next-generation Escalade will make its public debut on Feb. 4, 2020. The Escalade could have been one of the stars of the 2020 Detroit Auto Show had the event not moved to June. That's far too late for Cadillac, so the company will introduce the model during a special event held in Beverly Hills, Calif. The date wasn't chosen at random; it's less than a week before the 2020 edition of the Academy Awards, an event Cadillac has partnered with for the past six years. It's reasonable to assume the Escalade will play a key role in the ritzy event. The Escalade won't look anything like its Chevrolet-badged siblings, as leaked images show a tall, upright rendition of Cadillac's shield-shaped grille, but we expect many similarities beneath the sheetmetal. It will be bigger and correspondingly more spacious than the outgoing model, and an independent rear suspension will make it more comfortable. Inside, the digital instrument cluster and the infotainment system's screen will blend into a single unit angled toward the driver. Powertrain specifications remain under wraps, though we expect a naturally-aspirated V8 will come standard. An earlier report claims the twin-turbocharged Blackwing engine available in the CT6 will not make its way to the Escalade, and we doubt Cadillac will follow Chevrolet's lead by making a 3.0-liter straight-six turbodiesel available at an extra cost. An electric model is in the works, however. The 2021 Cadillac Escalade will go on sale about halfway through next year with a base price in the vicinity of $80,000. It will again be available with a short or a long wheelbase. Once it's unveiled, the coast will be clear for GMC to round out General Motors' portfolio of full-size SUVs with new variants of the Yukon and the Yukon XL. They'll likely break cover during the first half of 2020.

GM may have teased a whole group of electric vehicles

Tue, Jan 12 2021

During GM's big CES press conference, the automaker highlighted a number of its upcoming electric car-related projects from delivery vans to the upcoming flagship Cadillac Celestiq. In the middle of it all, a collection of mystery cars sat in the background behind speakers. They were in the dark, lit only with their running lights, and while it's possible they're just generic filler cars or concepts, we think they could be future products. Our best shot of the cars together is shown above, and we can pretty easily identify three of the vehicles. In the center is obviously the GMC Hummer EV. On either side of it are Cadillacs. To the left seems to be the Lyriq crossover, and to the right is the Celestiq sedan. Two of these cars have production dates, and the third has been confirmed for eventual production, just without timing. This is why we think the rest of the cars are upcoming models. The next most easily identified car is on the near right behind the Cadillac Celestiq. It very clearly has a Chevy bowtie illuminated in the running lights. And looking closely, it appears to be a pickup truck. It's difficult to make out anything more than that. The nose does look a bit more rounded and swept back than the brick-like designs of the Silverado truck line. That also squares with what seemed to be the upcoming truck that appeared in the background of yet another GM presentation. GM previously said this electric Chevy truck will be a full-size model with up to 400 miles of range. That leaves us with three more mysterious models. Over to the left behind the Cadillac Lyriq are what appear to be a pair of crossovers. The one on the far left looks low, curvy, and possibly with a fastback roof. The one on the right is taller, boxier, and probably more of a full-size people hauler. It's hard to say much more beyond that. They could be new electric Buicks, which would fit in nicely with that brand's crossover portfolio, and would likely be highly successful in China, where Buicks, crossovers and electric cars are all rather hot commodities. As for the mystery car on the far right, it's quite a puzzle. We can at least rule out Buick and Cadillac, and GMC since it's definitely a car, and a rather small one compared with the other cars on display. That leaves Chevy, and possibly the autonomous division Cruise. We're leaning toward it being a Chevy, since the first Cruise vehicle is going to be a boxy pod of sorts.

Cadillac says it made CUE infotainment a lot better

Wed, Feb 22 2017

We've never been huge fans of CUE, the Cadillac User Experience infotainment interface. It's been around a few years now, and the best thing we can say for it is that it now supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, making it easy enough to replace most of the interface with a familiar smartphone-based system. Now Cadillac has made some big upgrades to the system that should address at least some of our concerns. First and foremost, the system is claimed to be more intuitive, with a more logical interface design. Cadillac has added a Summary View that gives an overview of the climate, media, navigation, and phone all at the same time. The system will also be able to receive over-the-air updates, allowing Cadillac to make improvements more often and push them out to owners' cars, mush like Tesla and other automakers already do. The 4G LTE connection will also be used to connect the car with the cloud, where drivers can store and modify their own personalized set of settings. This My Driver Preferences profile will include things like contacts, navigation preferences, and recent destinations, and will also follow them from one car equipped with the system to another. That should come in handy for anyone subscribing to the $1,500-a-month Book by Cadillac vehicle subscription service, which allows participants to swap between cars when they choose. The cloud connection will also carry over to a new available navigation function, which Cadillac claims has a more intuitive, smartphone-like interface. It uses its data connection to provide current destination info and is supposed to learn a driver's habits, such as their preferred routes and frequent destinations, which the system will then attempt to offer up predictively – so the car should be able to know that you're heading home at 5:00. Additional apps for the system will be available through Cadillac's new Collection app store. And it's still compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. One sore spot that appears to have been improved is the digital gauge package, although Cadillac hasn't offered details on that extension of the system. The current iteration's ability to over-customize the interface (our personal favorite is the option to display a total of four speedometers between the head-up display and the gauge screen; see video below) and unintuitive controls make it difficult to use and learn, while the simulated gauges don't look particularly realistic.
