1974 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible. 94,640 original miles!
Well I have never got as many looks in a vehicle before! A real show stopper. I am the second owner and vehicle has been stored the last 3 1/2 years. My current living situation does not allow for another vehicle so my project has to go. I paid $4500 for this car and put another $6800 into it. It still needs some love but when it is finished its going to be amazing. Only 7800 of these were built in 74. This one comes with the hard fiberglass parade boots as well! Drive great with a strong motor. Motor was rebuilt about 15K miles ago by the previous owner. 4500K miles ago the brakes, wheel barings, tye rods, electrical redone along with belt changes and a new radiator. At this time it was also painted this "speedboat" blue (kind of a blueish purple). Two years ago the starter and battery were replaced. This year I just put in a new convertible top motor. Had an appraisal done in Alberta Canada July 12 2007 that valued it at $15,000 (By Freelance Appraisal Group, Inc. Phillip Frank CPPA). I think that was being pretty kind as I have seen ones in better shape for less than that. Maybe Alberta has a huge demand for Eldy's of that vintage. I can make copies of the appraisal if need be and email you them if you request.

Here is what is not great:

-Transmission Fluid Leak from the Rear Pan. Just had it checked out ($145) and it would cost around $600 to fix this issue. I chose not to do so and just have kept an eye on the fluid.

-Convertible top frame needs some adjustment. I can get it up and down but it takes some effort and generally some help from a friend. I don't believe it would be a big issue for somebody that worked on convertible tops. But I sell beer for a living and i don't know what the heck I am doing!

-Seats are weathered a bit but have no tears or rips. Could probably just be re-dyed or seat covered.

-Door panels need to be re-upholstered.

-Weatherstripping could be re-done on windows and header

-Power windows all go up and down but sometimes need some help going up

-No antenna. Never had it when I bought it

-I had a CD player put in the glove box and I think the fuse blew on it but I can't get it out to check and I can't really be bothered. The unit is an Alpine

-The hood looks like it could use a new spring on the drivers side. Its not real noticeable but I want everything on the table.

-Air conditioning doesn't work. I guess it just needs a recharge but not certain on that one. Never really needed it with the top off.

-Cruise doesn't work either

This is pretty much what I know about the cars negatives. I would guess that it would take a few thousand dollars to make it look awesome. Or just someone who knew what they were doing!

Love this car. It is like driving a land yacht!

Any other questions please email me and I will try to answer them!

**Also has the original owners manual and shop manual for working on it!

Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit

Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.

Ghostbusters' new Ecto-1 is an oddly uninspiring '82 Caddy

Fri, Mar 25 2016

The Ghostbusters, or at least the movie franchise, will emerge from Hollywood's cobwebs this summer, but instead of the iconic 1959 Cadillac known as Ecto-1 that delighted big screen audiences in 1984, the new model may leave some scratching their heads. That's because this latest Ghostbusters draws its vehicular inspiration from a decidedly less interesting period in American automobile production: the 1980s. Starring alongside Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones is a 1982 Cadillac DeVille hearse. The studio dressed up this tired Caddy to look the part, but something's amiss. Instead of the flamboyant fins and shiny chrome, the '82 is decidedly pedestrian and uninteresting. Even in 1982, it was kind of a dull choice for luxury car buyers. There's a reason Murilee Martin deemed the '70s and '80s the "malaise era." Built a couple of years before the original, Academy Award-winning Ghostbusters hit cinemas, the '82 DeVille represents one of Cadillac's lowest points bar the Cimarron. Under its hood might be Cadilac's new-for-1982 HT 4100 V8 engine, which featured what the brand referred to as "digital" fuel injection. With 135 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque, the DeVille didn't win stoplight races back then. Oddly, the V6 engine that came standard in the '82 Sedan DeVille produced the same horsepower but delivered an extra 15 torques, which made it both faster and more fuel efficient than the V8. These were bad times for General Motors, clearly, but the gas engines paled in comparison to Cadillac's first diesel. The company's LF9 5.7-liter diesel V8 was optional on the DeVille and we pity the unlucky buyers who checked that box. Generally credited as the engine that made "diesel" a haunted word in Detroit for 30 years, the 350-cubic-inch unit might actually be fitting for the Ghostbusters. On the bright side, the '82 is new enough that it may have carried a box or two of Hi-C's stellar, Ghostbusters-inspired Ecto Cooler. Maybe the mortician took his kid to Kroger one time, you never know. Fitting in In the original 1984 Ghostbusters, the '59 Caddy was a forlorn and forgotten piece of machinery waiting for a new lease on life. Character Dr. Ray Stantz picks it up and admits in the film that it needs "some suspension work and shocks ...

CES 2022 was huge for EVs | Autoblog Podcast #711

Fri, Jan 7 2022

In this episode of the Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Senior Editor, Green, John Beltz Snyder. CES took place this week, and there were some nice electric surprises from automakers, especially General Motors. John has been driving the Ram 1500 Power Wagon, as well as what seems to be its polar opposite, the electric Mini Cooper SE. Greg talks about the differences between the Acura TLX A-Spec long-termer (which is back in the shop) and the Type S loaner that's filling in for it. John's also got some interesting thoughts on leather interiors. Finally, the editors reach into the mailbag and help a repeat customer decide on a suitable replacement for a 2008 Lexus GX 470 in this week's Spend My Money segment.
