1957 CADILLAC ELDORADO BIARRITZ CONVERTIBLE Original Paint * Original Chrome * Original Leather Interior Click on the arrow in the picture below to see video that
includes more photos. Double click on the arrow below to go to full screen. Just about everybody will agree that the most iconic 1950s
American classic is the Cadillac Eldorado. Of course the first Cadillac Eldorado was made in 1953 and
had serious sheet metal changes from the production convertible while the 1954 was a standard Cadillac convertible decorated with Eldorado
trim. The 1957 Cadillac Eldorado had entirely different sheet metal on the
rear end from the production Cadillac convertible. While it is
easy to clone a Cadillac convertible to an Eldorado when there are no sheet
metal changes it is almost impossible to clone a 1957 Cadillac convertible to a
1957 Eldorado because there are so many sheet metal differences.
There are those that consider the 1957 Cadillac
Eldorado Biarritz convertible to be the most elegant and in the best taste
(yes, the 1959 had bigger fins but many consider this model to be garish).
Those that restore 1957 Cadillac Eldorado convertibles know
that the original leather in this model was specially made with a special
texture that is extremely hard if not impossible to duplicate exactly on
restored car. Yes this car has the
beautiful original leather interior it was born with. The car that you see before you is in everybody’s favorite
combination of black exterior with a black and white leather interior (many black cars
had red and white interiors) and a white top and the original fiberglass boot. Yes, the interior leather in this car is 100% original. Just take a look at it, it is absolutely
gorgeous. Yes, yes the paint is
original and yes, yes the chrome is original. It is hard to beat that combination.
The current owner of the car who is an elderly gentleman is
the third owner who purchased the car in 2003 with only 27,000 miles on it and
since then he has put on another 24,000 miles, averaging about 2,200 miles a
year driving it to shows. One of
his longest trips to a show was a 160 mile round trip. This lets you know besides being one of
the best original 1957 in the U.S. it is also 100% a driver. Many cars that you can purchase today
are freshly restored with ten miles on them and are not sorted out. Sorting out on a restored car can take a year to get all the bugs out of the restoration. This car is original as put together by
Cadillac Motor Car Company in 1957 and has not mechanically been fooled with
and there are no known bugs to sort out.
Further we suggest that you take a look at the dashboard on
this car. If you know these Eldorados
you will be aware that the dashboards on these cars are usually beat up and get
chipped very easily; not this one, just look at the pictures. You should make special note that the
only thing that has been restored are the cosmetics in the engine. The frame, chassis, bottom of car have
been steam cleaned and as you can see it all looks exceptional.
1957 Cadillac Eldorados are held in the same high esteem as
the 1959 Eldorado except that recently the first 1957 Eldorado Biarritz convertible made
and restored to close to 100 points sold for $649,000 at the Hollywood Wheels
Auction in Florida and it was green in color. (Not the great color combination of this one!) Certainly we are not suggesting that
this car is anywhere near that price and the owner has put a reserve of book
value on it. However it is the only 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz with
original black paint, original black and white leather interior (carpet was replaced with NOS material), original
chrome and original fiberglass boot that is known to exist in such fine condition as we have been told.
The car of course has the original carburetion with the bat
wing air cleaner; original radio that has been upgraded on the backside to
AM/FM and the carpet has been replaced with N.O.S. material and may be the only change from original on this
car. If you are a Cadillac
collector or have a museum or just want the bench mark Cadillac Eldorado that
all other restorers will want to take a look at to see how things are when they
are supposed to be original. This
could be the car you are looking for.
We at MissChiTown couldn’t be more impressed with this classic and we
consider the reserve to be so low that it might as well not have a reserve.
Take a look at the pictures and accessory list and there is
no way that you will not be impressed. BID AND BE THE ENVY OF EVERY OTHER CADILLAC OWNER AND COLLECTOR. GM to cut production at 5 plants in North America, kill several models
Mon, Nov 26 2018DETROIT/WASHINGTON — General Motors Co said on Monday it will cut production of slow-selling models and slash its North American workforce in the face of a stagnant market for traditional gas-powered sedans, shifting more investment to electric and autonomous vehicles. The announcement is the biggest restructuring in North America for the U.S. No. 1 carmaker since its bankruptcy a decade ago. GM said it will take pre-tax charges of $3 billion to $3.8 billion to pay for the cutbacks, but expects the actions to improve annual free cash flow by $6 billion by the end of 2020. GM plans to halt production next year at three assembly plants: Lordstown, Ohio, Hamtramck, Michigan, and Oshawa, Ontario. The company also plans to stop building several models now assembled at those plants, including the Chevrolet Cruze, the Cadillac CT6 and the Buick LaCrosse, the sources said. Sources said the Chevrolet Volt, Impala and Cadillac XTS would also be discontinued. Signs of the demise of six passenger-car models have been swirling since July. Plants in Baltimore, Maryland, and Warren, Michigan, that assemble powertrain components have no products assigned to them after 2019 and thus are at risk of closure, the company said. It will also close two factories outside North America, but did not identify those plants. The AP reported that 14,700 jobs would be affected. Some 8,100 of those would be white-collar jobs reduced through buyouts or layoffs. The No. 1 U.S. automaker signaled the latest belt-tightening in late October when it offered buyouts to 50,000 salaried employees in North America. The company also said it will cut executive ranks by 25 per cent to "streamline decision making." Some 6,000 factory workers could lose their jobs or be transferred to other plants. Its shares were last up 6.2 percent at $38.16. Tariff 'headwinds' and cost-cutting GM Chief Executive Officer Mary Barra told reporters on Monday the company can reduce annual capital spending by $1.5 billion and increase investment in electric and autonomous vehicles and connected vehicle technology because it has largely completed investing in new generations of trucks and sport utility vehicles. Some 75 percent of its global sales will come from just five vehicle architectures by early in the 2020s. It plans to reduce annual capital spending to $7 billion by 2020 from an average of $8.5 billion a year during the 2017-2019 period.
Cadillac ELR regen on demand brakes win 2014 Green Car Technology award
Wed, Jan 22 2014Just like the Oscars, Green Car Journal decided a few years ago to up the number of nominees for its annual award. For the annual "Green Car of the Year" award, given out at the Los Angeles Auto Show each year, there are five finalists. For the "Green Car Technology" award, there are a fantastic ten. At the 2014 Washington Auto Show today, the Cadillac ELR and its regen on demand brakes managed to beat out the nine other finalists to claim the second annual "Green Car Technology" award. What is the purpose of the "Green Car Technology" award? Green Car Journal says it wants to reward "technologies that enable significantly improved environmental performance in vehicles today," which is why only fuel-saving technologies that were "in use on American highways during the award year" can be considered. The Caddy's brakes beat out the Acura Sport Hybrid SH-AWD powertrain, the Audi 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine, the BMW carbon-fiber passenger shell from the i3, the 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine used by Ford, the plug-in hybrid powertrain in the Honda Accord, Hyundai's hydrogen fuel cell technology, the regenerative brakes in the Mazda i-ELOOP, the plug-in hybrid powertrain used in some Porsche models and, finally, the Ram 3.0-Liter EcoDiesel engine. Last year, Green Car Journal gave Mazda's Skyactiv technology the inaugural Green Car Technology award. Cadillac ELR Regen On Demand Wins 2014 Green Car Technology Award Green Car Journal Lauds Cadillac's Electric Car Tech at Washington Auto Show WASHINGTON, Jan. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Cadillac's innovative Regen on Demand technology has taken top honors as the winner of Green Car Journal's 2014 Green Car Technology Award™. The prestigious award was presented at a Green Car Journal press conference during the Washington Auto Show's second Policy Day. "Cadillac has cleverly evolved a common electric-drive efficiency system into an intriguing feature that adds a new dimension to the driving experience," said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal and CarsOfChange.com. "Ever-increasing efficiency is crucial to our driving future, yet efficiency itself is not an attraction for a great many car buyers.
Man trapped in Cadillac XLR for 14 hours after battery dies
Thu, Sep 13 2018A 75-year old Cleveland man ended up trapped in his 2006 Cadillac XLR for 14 hours last month, according to a story reported by the Detroit Free Press. The owner of the car, Peter Pyros, hopped into his roadster to back out onto his driveway, but he quickly learned that the battery was dead. He was "trapped" because the doors use an electric button to activate the door latch to open the door. Since the battery was dead, the buttons did nothing. Now, GM planned for an eventuality like this by placing a manual door release handle on the ground next to the seat. It's marked with a red diagram of the driver-side door opening. There's also a section about it in the owner's manual. The only problem here, was that Pyros says he didn't know the release was there, and he didn't have his owner's manual in the car. Because of this, Pyros may not have made it out alive if not for a neighbor coming to his rescue. "I came to the conclusion that I was going to die ... I was at peace with it. I asked God to help me twice, then I said, 'OK, God if this is the way I'm supposed to die, I will die,'" Pyros said to reporters. There's every chance he could have died in the car, too. Temperatures in Cleveland hit 77 degrees the day he was in the car, and he said it was unbearably hot and difficult to breathe after only 30 minutes sealed inside. Pyros reportedly tried yelling, pounding on and even trying to break the car's windows without success. At one point, Pyros wrote a note to his nephew explaining what happened if he ended up dying. What eventually saved him was a curious neighbor who came to investigate after he noticed his garage door was still open late at night. His neighbor called the police after he found him in the car, and emergency personnel actually ended up charging his car's battery up enough to get the electric door release to work. Of course, after everything settled down, there are now lawyers involved. They're going after GM, with an argument accusing the automaker of not making the emergency latch more obvious both in the car and in the owner's manual. GM doesn't appear to be having any of it. Here's its statement on the matter: "Because this varies by make and model, drivers should review the door lock section of their owner's manual, and follow up with their dealer or customer assistance center if they have any questions," GM spokesman Tom Wilkinson wrote to the Free Press. This type of door release isn't particularly uncommon for GM vehicles.
