The Caddy tags paid unitl September 2014.... if you "get-it" In January 2012 Two years ago. I bought the car to experiment with giving a car a natural patina look and using my art skills I accomplished a bad-ass look on the hood, top, and trunk lid, the remainder of the car I was more subtle and had to be because the front left and right fenders are abs plastic and I painted them to look rusted, but on Saturday June 8, 2013, I painted the sides matte blue (see photos). I bought this car from the second owner who was a Union 76 service station owner in town. The title is clear and in my name, this is NOT a flip or story about the car is a friend's and I'm selling it for them... This is my car! With that out of the way, at 142,466 miles the car was given a new set of Michelin Harmony 95T tires all the way around. P205/70R15, a full lube job, windshield wipers. At the same time, the serpentine belt was replaced, the cooling system was serviced, and the car was made road ready. It's fun to drive and you definitely get the looks, more on that in a minute. Yes, the wheels are orange, they are NOT painted, they were professionally powder-coated by Armando at PERMACOLOR in Carp. Center caps were purchased new on ebay and installed. On December 3, 2012 a new First Interstate battery was installed, along with BG pad protectors. The car was professionally lowered by the award-winning team at Scott's Hotrods N Customs in Oxnard, Ca. Cadillacs have an automatic load lifter so when people sit in the back seat the car will raise up, this was disconnected, but not removed and if desired it can be reconnected. The factory radio does not work, but the clock in it lights up, so it may be a fuse on the back of the radio, but I'm too old to crawl under the dash and look. There is a crusty bubble at the side rear of the drivers side, just up and left of the gas filler door. and the trunk will close, but it's a little tricky and does take some finesse. Dependable, YES... I had the car gone through so that it is always road-ready, starts right up and when you put your foot down, the car knows what you want to do., Headlamps, turn signals, brake lights, dome light, door lights, back up lights, license plate lights all work, gauges work fine and the mileage is true. Brakes are fine and the tranny and engine perform as they should. Lots of room in this car. The interior is white with the expection of the center armrest which is tan and I recently replaced and in great condition, although the seats could use a good scrubbing, personally, I would have them dyed white, it's faster and they would look new if you did. The carpet and dash are blue, vinyl top is in good condition. I added a Stroh's Beer Tap to the selector, it's old, since it has Detroit 26, Michigan rather than a zip code on it. (see photo) I yellowed the front turn signals and blacked out the grille center see photo and compare to the original shot of the car.
The oil is Castrol Syntec, and of course, the filter was changed, fittings lubricated and all the usual belts, brakes, lights, tire pressure, etc. were checked and are fine. When the car was lowered it was pointed out to me that the left inner tie rod end should be replaced and it was on January 21, 2013, On that same day the transmission cooler hoses and clamps were repaired and a new transmission filter kit and fluid were installed. The valve cover gaskets were changed on Friday June 7, 2013, a small crack in the windshield repaired by Safelite, and a front-end alignment done... last month, the only thing left to do is drive it. I had the engine and under-chasis professionally degreased... In California, this is something that you have to go to a pro; You can't just do it in your driveway... big fine if you get caught.. and it was only a hundred bucks. Put the key in, start it up and go. NOW, about the pictures: The hood, top, and trunk were originally painted to look rusty... but I wanted a great patina, so I ground, used a little magic liquid, and then clear coated to bring out that brown patina we all love. The front fenders I've described. I had a sign painter paint the doors with advertising from an a place that use to exist in Detroit (which is where I use to live, but moved to Ca. in 1978). That's why the rear license plate, which is abs plastic is painted to look rusty and says Detroit, there's a tiger in the back window (as in Detroit Tiger), there's a Stroh's beer tap on the selector... and, by the way, that's a 1955 Chevrolet hood ornament I used to replace the standard Cadillac emblem on the hood. The signs painted on the front doors has been sanded and is barely visible now, to make it look like it has weathered over the years. I've popped off the side plastic... ugly... the trim over the rear wheels and the mirror casings are plastic but painted to look rusty (see photos), and the rear tail light surrounds and between the trunk lid and bumper are a kind of rubber/plastic, but painted to look like they are rusting.... This was something I wanted to try on a car to get the effect... I painted the sides of the car on Saturday, June 8, 2013 a matte blue (SEE PHOTOS). If you're not building and customizing your car, you're probably wasting time in front of the TV. Of course, this vehicle is sold as-is, where-is and it is the buyers responsibility to arrange transportation or pick-up of the car. I DRIVE THE CAR REGULARLY, 'CAUSE IT'S COOL! so, that being said, the mileage when you get the car will be somewhere between 145,000 and 146,000 miles. Vehicle has been listed locally, auction may end at any time. |

2019 Cadillac Escalade ESV Drivers' Notes Review | Old, but not antiquated
Thu, Oct 18 2018When the Cadillac Escalade debuted 20 years ago, car-based crossovers were just getting their start. The Escalade was and still is basically a Chevy Tahoe with new styling and a nicer interior. That's especially true today, as our test car has an interior that looks like it was lifted straight from a Cadillac CTS rather than a Chevy Silverado. Crossovers may be more comfortable and fuel efficient, but they can't hold a candle to towing and payload capabilities of a body-on-frame SUV. If you need to haul seven people and a full-size Airstream in quiet comfort, few options are better than the Escalade. This week, our tester was a long-wheelbase Escalade ESV. That means substantially more room both behind the third row and with the seats folded. The Premium Luxury trim sits in the middle of the lineup, but it still comes with a lot of goodies. Features include a Bose audio system, a digital instrument cluster, a heads-up display, heated and cooled leather seats, a heated steering wheel, tri-zone climate control, Magnetic Ride Control and a stout 6.2-liter V8. Options include upgraded leather for $2,000 and polished 22-inch wheels for $600. All in, this Escalade was just shy of $100,000. Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore: The Escalade is arguably Cadillac's best vehicle. It's a bold, body-on-frame SUV that feels decadently all-American. The Escalade is still contemporary even though it's been years since the ute has had a major redesign. I enjoyed a couple nights in this luxury bruiser. The V8 is powerful, and the 10-speed is a smart improvement. The command seating position is always welcome for me. The interior is nicely laid out, and the materials all look and feel upscale. Not a huge fan of Cadillac's touchscreen (no longer officially called CUE), but it seems to be getting better or I'm getting used to it. Love the Escalade's exterior design. It's dramatic, imposing and gives Cadillac something that's a true style-leader. All that being said, I'll be interested to see how Caddy iterates the Escalade. The Lincoln Navigator is an excellent product and a worthy adversary. Cadillac would be wise to keep its SUV flagship fresh. Senior Editor, Green, John Beltz Snyder: I was not excited to get into the Escalade. This is really not my cup of tea. I used to love the Chevy Suburban, but that fondness has languished as my tastes evolved as these huge vehicles have modernized, losing the charm that drew me to them when I was younger.
Grab this 1960 Cadillac hearse just in time for Halloween
Wed, Oct 30 2019Halloween is just around the corner, but if you act fast you can still get yourself a suitable ride. Might we suggest this 1960 Cadillac Superior hearse for sale right now on eBay? This awesome hearse is sure to strike fear into the hearts of all who see it (particularly neighbors concerned with their home values). The '59–'60 Cadillacs make spectacular hearses, and this Superior-bodied example is no exception. We love the wraparound rear glass, which mimics the wraparound front windshield, and the sweeping arc of the roofline is perfectly executed. Of course, the prominent, pointed fins provide an emphatic contrast with the otherwise rounded bodywork. On offer in Las Vegas, Nevada, this hearse is full of scary elements. According to the seller, there's rust in the body, a leaking transmission, rot in the rear wood floor, and exhaust leaks. If that's not frightening enough, the seller says, "I'm sure there are many other things wrong with it." Against that, there's a new carb, new fuel lines, an electronic fuel pump, and the gas tank has been boiled out. The seller claims to run the car around town, with no overheating. And the odometer shows just 34,000 miles. The asking price is $19k, but the seller is open to offers. Make a deal, then roll in style this Halloween.
Cadillac CT6 to be lighter than CTS, get PHEV model
Mon, 06 Oct 2014Cadillac is suddenly one of the most talked about automakers in the US with Johan de Nysschen taking control. The brand claims that it eventually wants to become, once again, the standard of the world. One of the first vehicles to actually prove whether that's possible is its upcoming CT6 flagship sedan. We still don't know what the production version looks like undisguised, but other important details are falling into place. The latest big news sheds some light on the Caddy's powertrain and some estimates of its weight and size.
General Motors product chief Mark Reuss dropped the details at the automaker's Global Business Conference. According to The Detroit News, he revealed that the CT6 would use a twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and a plug-in hybrid would be an additional option. He reportedly claimed it would be the most "powerful six-cylinder gas engine in the segment" and said the hybrid could get around 70 miles per gallon.
Reuss also revealed that the CT6 would be about 53 pounds lighter than the current CTS, despite being about 8 inches longer, according to The Detroit News. If that's the case, the new flagship is about 203.5-inches long, which is 1.5-inches more than the XTS.
