The SEVENTH picture you see is what the car looked like when I purchased it over a year ago. I bought the car to experiment with giving a car a natural patina look and using my art skills I accomplished a bad-ass look on the hood, top, and trunk lid, the remainder of the car I was more subtle and had to be because the front left and right fenders are abs plastic and I painted them to look rusted, but on Saturday June 8, 2013, I painted the sides matte blue (see photos). I bought this car from the second owner who was a Union 76 service station owner in my town. The title is clear and in my name, this is NOT a flip or story about the car is a friend's and I'm selling it for them... This is my car! With that out of the way, at 142,466 miles the car was given a new set of Michelin Harmony 95T tires all the way around. P205/70R15, a full lube job, windshield wipers, smog inspection( and yes it did pass, California is real particular about that). At the same time, the serpentine belt was replaced, the cooling system was serviced, and the car was made road ready. It's fun to drive and you definitely get the looks, more on that in a minute. Yes, the wheels are orange, they are NOT painted, they were professionally powder-coated by Armando at PERMACOLOR in my town. Center caps were purchased new on ebay and installed. On December 3, 2012 a new First Interstate battery was installed, along with BG pad protectors. The car was professionally lowered by the award-winning team at Scott's Hotrods N Customs in Oxnard, Ca. Cadillacs have an automatic load lifter so when people sit in the back seat the car will raise up, this was disconnected, but not removed and if desired it can be reconnected. The factory radio does not work, but the clock in it lights up, so it may be a fuse on the back of the radio, but I'm too old to crawl under the dash and look, but I will include a nos Kenwood KDC stereo radio and CD player in the box in the purchase... ya gotta have tunes. There is a crusty bubble at the side rear of the drivers side, just up and left of the gas filler door. (see photos) and the trunk will close, but it's a little tricky and does take some finesse. Dependable, YES... I had the car gone through so that it is always road-ready, starts right up and when you put your foot down, the car knows what you want to do., Headlamps, turn signals, brake lights, dome light, door lights, back up lights, license plate lights all work, gauges work fine and the mileage is true. Brakes are fine and the tranny and engine perform as they should. Lots of room in this car. The interior is white with the expection of the center armrest which is tan and I recently replaced and in great condition, although the seats could use a good scrubbing, personally, I would have them dyed white, it's faster and they would look new if you did. The carpet and dash are blue, vinyl top is in good condition. I added a Stroh's Beer Tap to the selector, it's old, since it has Detroit 26, Michigan rather than a zip code on it. (see photo) I yellowed the front turn signals and blacked out the grille center see photo and compare to the original shot of the car.

Cadillac, Buick and Chevy decisions impacted by worries abroad
Fri, 05 Jul 2013European Concerns Drive GM, But Beware Of The French Connection
GM's bid to rationalize Europe will impact the products that will be offered domestically.
It seems that Europe is defining the future of General Motors more so than its home North American market. Having axed Saturn, Pontiac and Hummer, GM has done a fairly good job of repositioning its remaining four divisions, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick and GMC. Cadillac carries the luxury banner. Chevrolet is aimed at the masses with cars and trucks along with a nod to performance thanks to Camaro and Corvette. Buick bridges the premium gap between Chevy and Cadillac, while GMC offers a hardcore work/upscale proposition.
Playboy reveals its 2013 Cars of the Year
Thu, 20 Dec 2012Vaunted men's magazine Playboy knows that its readers are nearly as interested in cars as they are in the female anatomy... sorry, we thought we could write that with a straight face. Anyway, the buff-book does occasionally fill some of its spreads with sexy metal, to accent all the rest of the sexiness.
To wit, the magazine has unveiled its feature on the 2013 Cars of the Year. Without giving us much in the way of criteria for the awards, nor a clear framing of the categories ("Responsible Ride" is a particularly challenging concept, especially when you consider that the Mazdaspeed3 was the winner), Playboy has nevertheless highlighted what we assume to be it's favorite 12 or 13 (depending on how you count) cars from the 2013 model year.
Headlining the class is the Porsche 911, which Playboy writers single out for having "remarkable electronic voodoo." BMW M5 is named "Slickest Sports Sedan" though the Cadillac ATS then follows on because "we couldn't resist giving the new Caddy a shout-out." The rest of the picks are pretty conventional (save, perhaps, the Honda Fit EV as "Ace Electric"), even if the categories and methodology are fairly wonky. Cruise through or gallery for a taste or check out the full list, here. The site is safe for work, and you can legitimately (this time) say that you were reading it for the articles.
Junkyard Gem: 1998 Cadillac Catera
Sun, Jun 7 2020Every so often, during the last few decades of the 20th century, the suits running each of the big Detroit automakers would eye their European subsidiaries and decide that some car from the other side of the Atlantic could be making dollars over here in addition to pounds or francs or Deutschmarks over there. Chrysler didn't do so well with Simca 1204s or Plymouth-badged Hillman Avengers in the American marketplace (though the Simca-based Omnirizon did very well). Ford USA moved quite a few Capris and Fiestas during the 1970s, then bombed with the Merkur Scorpio and XR4Ti. General Motors tried, over and over, to get Americans to buy Opels (some sold by Buick dealers, others actually badged as Buicks), and I still see the occasional Kadett, GT, or Manta in junkyards to this day. For the 1997 model year, still stinging from the not-so-great sales of the Turin-Hamtramck-built Cadillac Allante, GM took the Omel Omega B and applied Cadillac badges. The result was the Catera, and I found this silver '98 in a Denver self-service yard recently. The Catera had a lot going for it, with a rear-wheel-drive layout and a modern V6 engine that made more power than the BMW 528i's straight-six that year. It should have been able to compete with European luxury sedans in North America because it was a European luxury sedan. Unfortunately, you couldn't get a manual transmission in the Catera, "traditional" Cadillac shoppers thought the Catera lacked a sufficiently massive presence, and younger Cadillac buyers flocked straight to the Escalade starting in 1999. After 2001, the Catera was no more. I still find Cateras in junkyards, nearly 20 years after the last ones were sold, so they appear to have held together pretty well. This one was in nice shape until the end, with all the original manuals still in the glovebox. Even the Catera ballpoint pen remained with the car for its whole life. As we can see in the owner's manual, Cadillac marketed the Catera as "The Caddy That Zigs." The idea was that younger car shoppers would become as Cadillac-obsessed as their grandparents had been. Inspired by the ducks in the Cadillac logo, the Catera marketing team created Ziggy the Duck to pitch this car. Things didn't go so well. The Catera listed at $29,995 in 1998, about $47,600 in 2020 dollars. That made it an affordable alternative to the BMW 5-Series or Acura 3.2 TL, but total Catera sales came to fewer than 95,000 cars over five model years.
