1966 Cadillac DeVille

Great Driving Car

Black Interior

This is a 1966 Cadillac I bought about a year ago to go cruise around in and enjoy.  I wanted one of these cars and kept finding ones that were perfect (approx $20,000) or junk (approx $2500).  I wanted something in between that I could enjoy driving but not have to worry about breaking down constantly or being afraid to touch it because it was so nice.  I found that in this car.

This car is a VERY nice example of a 1966 Cadillac.  It is in good shape overall with very little rust.  This car has never been restored but has been painted.  I am a very picky person and I can live with the paint.  It is about an 8/10 in my opinion.  From a couple feet away, it looks great but you can find issues in it if you look hard.  It does have some rust in the places all these cars rust.  A little behind the back window is starting to come up and there is some beginning to show at the bottom of the trunk lid.  Neither is very bad at all.  The bumpers could be re-chromed but don't look too bad the way they are now.  The interior is in very good condition also.  The headliner is perfect.  The seats and carpet are really nice.  The windows all work surprisingly fast and the AM radio even works good.  The dash pad has a crack in it and there is something missing right above the steering wheel on the dash pad. That is the worst part of the interior as you can see in the pictures.

Mechanically the car is in great condition.  I just had the driveshaft rebuilt and it is very smooth at highway speeds.  The transmission had a small leak when I got the car.  It was a rear seal and I had it replaced.  The person that I bought it from just replaced the window rubbers, some bushings underneath the car, put 4 new tires on it, and had it aligned.  It drives great.  The car still has drum brakes on it and stops like a car with drum brakes.  Not bad, just different than a new car.  The mileage shows at 31,358.  I have had the conversation with multiple antique car people and we think this is the original mileage.  The driveline is really tight and the car is nice enough to have only 31,000 miles.

I have enjoyed this car but I bought a couple more cars and don't have room for this inside anymore.  I don't want to store it outside and watch it ruin so I am going to let someone else enjoy it.  If I had to rate this car between Perfect (10) and Junk (1), it would be a good solid 8.  You will not find another one that is ready to enjoy that is this nice for this kind of money.  KEEP IN MIND, THIS CAR IS NOT PERFECT, IT IS A UNRESTORED, 1966 MODEL CAR.  Feel free to ask questions and I'll get them answered as soon as I can.

I can deliver it to a shipping terminal in Birmingham, Al if necessary.

The 2016 Pebble Beach Concept Lawn was nuts as always

Mon, Aug 22 2016

The Concept Lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is like the smallest, most expensive car show you can imagine. A bunch of unobtanium concepts and almost-production models line an irregularly shaped putting green for people to stare at while on their way to see other, older insane cars. This year's crop was a particularly good one. We'll walk through the gallery above in order: That's a new Ford GT. Not quite a concept, but it's not in production yet, so we'll let it slide. Then there's the one-of-a-kind Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo that was recently bought by a Saudi Prince along with a matching Chiron. Next up is the Lamborghini Centenario Roadster, which was unveiled last week and is already sold out. This orange automobile is BMW's 2002 Hommage with its latest livery, a Jagermeister-themed affair called Turbomeister. This silver Infiniti, the Q80 Inspiration Concept, is an oldie but a goodie. It first appeared in Paris in 2014. The extremely long automobile after that is the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6, which was unveiled in Monterey this year. The 6 in the name is because it's 6 meters, or about 18 feet, long. Most of that's the hood. Next we have the one-of-99 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato coupe, which continues to be beautiful. After that is a Fisker Karma with a V8, the VLF Destino. Thank you, Bob Lutz. The black sedan you see after that is the Cadillac Escala Concept, which also made its debut in Monterey this year. Then we have a Rolls-Royce Wraith Black Badge. Not a concept, but exclusive enough to join the others. Next is the McLaren 570GT customized by MSO that arrived for Pebble 2016. It has special design touches plus an electrochromic panel to replace the normal glass roof. The light blue car is the Genesis New York concept. The name didn't change even though it was in Monterey. Then we have the large and in charge Lincoln Navigator concept, taking up two regulation concept spots. The red car with suicide doors is Acura's Precision Concept, which we first saw at the Detroit show this year. Another non-concept, the Lexus LC 500h at least looks futuristic enough to be a show-specific car. And here's a 2017 Maserati Quattroporte, which is definitely not a concept. A Bentley Mulsanne EWB, because why not? It's not available in the US, so that almost qualifies for concept status. Then there's a reproduction Lister Knobbly, which we could stare at all day.

2015 Cadillac Escalade

Mon, 07 Apr 2014

Cadillac has been an interesting story in the auto industry over the past several years. Its comeback bid may be well over a decade old, but it's only recently that the Wreath and Crest has transformed from the auto industry's retirement home into its hot new thing. Today's Cadillac is a powerful marque working to instill passionate design, sound driving dynamics and cutting-edge technology into each model it builds, with vehicles like the ATS and redesigned CTS leading the charge.
Now, its latest model has arrived. This fourth-generation Escalade is among the most important new Cadillacs since the division's renaissance kicked into high gear. It's the brand's de facto flagship, and the first vehicle many young people think of when hearing the name "Cadillac." In the past, the Escalade was the chosen vehicle of the rich, flashy and famous. It's suffered over the past few years, though, particularly as new and more luxurious competitors have come to the fore.
With this latest redesign, General Motors is aiming to retake the spotlight as purveyors of the market's premier luxury SUV. To find out if it's been successful, I ventured down to the South Carolina Lowcountry to test the all-new 2015 Escalade.

2020 Cadillac XT5 spied undisguised with infotainment from CT5

Thu, May 16 2019

The reveal of the 2020 Cadillac XT5 crossover must be seriously near, because one of our spy photographers caught the new one completely undisguised. Seriously, there aren't any vinyl coverings anywhere, and the interior was completely bare, too. The update is minimal for the most part, but the interior reveals a big infotainment change. Before we get inside, we'll do a quick overview of the exterior. The front grille has a new mesh insert, and the lower air dam has a wider, thinner metallic accent. At the back, the colors for the faux skid plate or diffuser motif have been swapped. And that's it for the exterior. See? Told you it would be quick. The interior is nearly unchanged, too, except for the aforementioned infotainment system. Instead of the current model's touchscreen-only interface, the new XT5 adopts the control knob featured in the XT4, XT6 and CT5. It fits quite naturally behind the electronic shift lever. If it's like the system in other Cadillacs, fans of the touchscreen shouldn't worry, because you'll still be able to use the touch functions if you wish. Odds are we're months away from the new XT5 hitting dealers, since this is clearly a finished prototype. It will most certainly offer the same 3.6-liter, 310-horsepower V6 and 8-speed automatic of the current model. It's possible Cadillac will introduce a slightly more affordable 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 as an option, possibly even a turbo inline-4 hybrid powertrain, since both powertrains are available on the current Chinese-market XT5.
