Ford C-Max Commercial Brings Cadillac 'Poolside' Ad Down To Earth
Thu, Mar 27 2014If we had tried to predict the first video response to the controversial Poolside video for the Cadillac ELR, we would not have thought it would center on compost. But, hey, it's always nice to be reminded that the real world is sometimes better than fiction. Instead of the chic swagger of 'Poolside,' 'Anything Is Possible' is all about getting dirty. The new short in question is called Upside: Anything Is Possible and it promotes two things: Detroit Dirt and the Ford C-Max Energi. As in the ELR ad, Ford's plug-in C-Max only makes an appearance at the tail end of the spot, but instead of the chic swagger of Poolside, Anything Is Possible is all about getting dirty. The ad stars Pashon Murray, co-founder of Detroit Dirt, which takes natural waste from around Detroit, composts it into soil and then spreads that around "forgotten parcels" of Detroit to create urban farms. Detroit Dirt gets its bio-waste from a lot of sources, including the Detroit Zoological Society (all that herbivore manure has to go somewhere), Ford and General Motors, but this particular ad was the idea of Ford's PR agency, Team Detroit. It was a frenetic shoot, filmed with an LA-based director right after a big winter storm blew through Detroit, and Murray couldn't be happier with the result. "This was Ford Motor Company pushing my story, letting me tell the story that I believe in," Murray tells AutoblogGreen. "I get to help push this car and I get to tell my story." She says that the Team Detroit and Ford had to agree on the message, "from my understanding, [YouTube] is where they wanted to start, not where they wanted to finish." The ad is already getting a positive response on Twitter, so we won't be surprised if it shows up in more places soon. "It's not saying Ford is better than GM. It's telling the story of a black woman who's working hard in Detroit." As Detroit Dirt has off-screen support from both GM and Ford, it's unsurprising to hear Murray say that the video "is not a rivalry thing." She notes that the ad agency Team Detroit came to her and offered to tell the Detroit Dirt story using the framework of the GM ad. "It's a parody on this commercial, but it's not saying Ford is better than GM," she said. "It's telling the story of a black woman who's working hard in Detroit." What is that story? It's about urban farming, recovery and recycling. Murray tells us that for the last seven or eight years, she's been dedicated to sustainability.
Cadillac Escalade driven by Tony Soprano for sale
Fri, Nov 6 2015If you're a fan of The Sopranos imagining a trip to the Bada Bing, then check out this white 2003 Cadillac Escalade ESV for sale by RR Auction. James Gandolfini drove this luxury SUV in the role of Tony Soprano for the last three seasons of the mafia-themed series. Gandolfini also signed the interior to give you something to show off to your buddies. If you've ever watched the show, you've almost certainly seen this white SUV before. According to the auction listing, the series featured two Escalades, and this one was used for exterior shots. The Caddy even starred in an action scene in season 5 when Tony chased after Phil Leotardo. Gandolfini's signature appears inside twice: once with "Thanks for the truck, James Gandolfini" and again with just his name. The auction also includes a letter of authenticity that's signed by the actor, and a second document asserts the SUV's use in the series. Apparently, Gandolfini had a habit of signing messages in his vehicles from the show – at one point he wrote a threatening "Be nice to my car" message in a red Chevrolet Suburban from earlier episodes. The auction for Tony's Escalade runs from November 12-19, which still leaves plenty of time for a meeting of the families to decide to buy it. Bidding starts at $5,000, and according to The Drive, the consignor estimates a final price between $30,000 and $50,000. This sale should at least come to a more definitive end than The Sopranos did. Cadillac recalls ELR coupe over stability control problems
Fri, 28 Mar 2014Cadillac is recalling about 656 2014 ELR models made between September 26, 2013 and February 14, 2014, because of a fault with the electronic stability control system. On cars without adaptive cruise control, it's possible that diagnostics could prevent the system from telling the driver if ESC is on or off.
Cadillac has a software fix ready and repairs begin on April 17. Alan Adler, General Motors' recall and legal spokesperson, tells Autoblog that only about 55 of the affected cars are in the hands of owners. The rest are either on dealer lots or still at the factory. There have been no reported injuries or crashes caused by the fault.
The correction for the stability control system involves a software recalibration of the electronic brake control module that takes around 20 minutes to perform. While they use the same platform, the Chevrolet Volt isn't involved in this recall because it "uses a different a brake control module," said Adler.
