Description:

You are bidding on a '61 Cadillac Coupe Deville 2 Door Hardtop. CLEAR North Carolina Title in my name, on hand.
Custom fitted with a Chevy 350 with Edelbrock carburetor, 2 speed power glide automatic transmission (which both have been rebuilt) and 12 bolt Chevy rear end!
Custom floor mount auto shifter.

This car has factory power windows, power steering, and power brakes with front disc conversion.
The door handles and locks have been shaved, as well as the trunk lock with trunk release switch wired up near the dash.

The dash was completely disassembled and repainted gloss black by a professional local body shop. The dash pad was stripped, re-padded, and recovered by Helms Auto trim.
New carpet kit installed. The front seat was replaced with a like new oem seat wrapped in black and white vinyl.

Headlights, brake lights, and tail lights all work.

This car has a rust free body, and only some rust (Swiss cheese) in the trunk pan outer portions. The floor pans have been replaced with molded fiberglass sections. (will not rust again)

The exterior is primer with some house of kolor blue paint added to give it a flat Carolina blue look.

I do have a hand full of parts in the trunk including a lot of the removed chrome pieces.

Things I do know the car still needs:
A nice set of wheels and tires.
Exhaust is needed manifolds back.
Door panels, headliner, rear dash cover, rear seat recovered to match front seat.
Drivers wheel skirt installed.
Only thing hooked up after installing the new dash is the ignition, speedo, and headlight switch. All else needs to be hooked up. (other gauges, heater controls etc.)
A couple windows are cracked.
New weather stripping.
Wiper arms
Brake booster either isn't getting enough vacuum or is getting weak.
No door poppers installed, to open doors you stick hand in threw the vent window and pull the interior handle.
Transmission dipstick tube seal ($5 less than 30 mins to fix)
Install the seat belts if you want them (included)
Power window switch installed (new one included)

I have over $7k invested in this car. I put a buy it now price because if I don't, people will flood my email asking a price. So there it is....
The Reserve is a fair amount lower than that.

I do not recommend driving this car on busy roads or long distance until good tires are installed and the exhaust is installed. As well as the brakes getting adjusted.

Teaching autonomous vehicles to drive like (some) humans

Mon, Oct 16 2017

While I love driving, I can't wait for fully autonomous vehicles. I have no doubt they'll reduce car accidents, 94 percent of which are caused by human error, leading to more than 37,000 road deaths in the U.S. last year. And if it means I can fly home at night in winter and get safely shuttled to my house an hour-plus away — and not have to endure a typical white-knuckle drive in the dark with torrential rain and blinding spray from 18-wheelers on Interstate 84 — sign me up. Autonomous technology will also take some of the stress, tedium and fatigue out of long highway drives, as I recently discovered while testing Cadillac Super Cruise. AVs are also supposed to eventually help increase traffic flow and reduce gridlock. But according to a recent Automotive News article, as the first wave of AVs are being tested on public roads, they're having the opposite effect. Part of the problem is they drive too cautiously and are programmed to strictly follow the written rules of the road rather than going with the flow of traffic. "Humans violate the rules in a safe and principled way, and the reality is that autonomous vehicles in the future may have to do the same thing if they don't want to be the source of bottlenecks," Karl Iagnemma, CEO of self-driving technology developer NuTonomy, told Automotive News. "You put a car on the road which may be driving by the letter of the law, but compared to the surrounding road users, it's acting very conservatively." I get it that, like teen drivers, AVs need a ramp up period to learn the unwritten rules of the road and that a skeptical public has to be convinced of the technology's safety. But this is where I become less of a champion on AVs, since where I live in the Pacific Northwest we already have more than our share of overly cautious human drivers. Since moving here 12 years ago, I've found it's an interesting paradox that a region famous for its strong coffee, where you'd think most drivers would be jacked up on caffeine, is also the home to annoyingly measured motorists. As an auto-journo colleague living in Seattle so aptly put it: "People in the Pacific Northwest drive as if they have nowhere to go." If you drive like me and always have somewhere to go — and usually are in a hurry to get there — it's absolutely maddening.

Cadillac XT3 caught covered in copious camouflage

Wed, Feb 15 2017

While a bit difficult to tell thanks to the impressive camouflage used, what we're looking at here is likely the upcoming Cadillac XT3. There are a few details that stand out to lend credence to this prediction. There are a handful of sharp angles scattered throughout that are in line with Cadillac's modern design language. Specifically in the LED running lights and on the side mirrors. The rear profile also is reminiscent of the current, and slightly larger XT5. The rear lights extend into the D-pillars, which would match the current Escalade. We get a pretty clear picture of the rear suspension on this XT3. It's clearly an independent rear suspension using coil springs. While General Motors uses independent suspension on some of its crossovers, we can't quite match it to a particular model. We believe that if the XT3 is based on an existing model (which it almost certainly is), the platform and suspension have been substantially modified. The XT3 could use a version of the D2XX platform that underpins the Buick Envision. However, we know from a previous report that the XT3 will likely be built at the factory that produces the Buick LaCrosse and Chevy Malibu. The XT5 uses a modified version of the LaCrosse/Malibu platform, so it's possible the XT3 could use a shorter version of the XT5 chassis. Depending on how small the XT3 ends up being, it might even share a platform with the Chevy Trax and Buick Encore. However, considering their economy car roots and torsion-bar rear suspension, we think that's the least likely. Regardless of what chassis is underneath its crisp bodywork, we expect the XT3 to be released sometime next year. Related Video:

Lincoln hijacks Cadillac's 'Dare Greatly' tagline

Tue, Feb 24 2015

Talk about comedy - not even 24 hours after Cadillac teased its CT6 while inviting us to "Dare Greatly" during the Oscars telecast, Lincoln was doing the same but on Google. An anonymous tipster informed us the day after the Oscars that typing "dare greatly" into Google returned two ads before the search results. When we checked it over the course of a few hours, the first ad was always for Cadillac and either read, "Cadillac - Dare Greatly - Only those who dare drive the world forward," or, "Cadillac - Dare Greatly - It's not the critic who counts, it's the man in the arena." (On a side note, come on, Cadillac - "the man in the arena?" Well. It's a quote. Suppose that's all right, then.) The second result was for Lincoln and read, "Dare Greatly - It's not about making a statement, it's about doing what you love," with the associated URL being www.lincoln.com/dare+greatly. The first time we clicked it, it went to the Lincoln homepage showing the 2015 MKZ Hybrid. The second time, we got a page saying that the Lincoln site wasn't available; the Lincoln site was fine, the link didn't work. There's no reference to the Google joke at the Lincoln site - this was just about getting eyeballs. The English have the perfect phrase for Lincoln's provocation: "You've got some cheek!" We think it cunning, dastardly, and funny, and there's no doubt it worked - they knew people would flock to search the term. One of our competitors, Autotrader, said that within an hour of the first of four Cadillac spots airing during the Oscars, car searches for Cadillac vehicles climbed 53 percent from pre-Academy Award coverage levels. Searches for Cadillac cars were up 120%, they said. If this is Round One of our homegrown scrappy old-timers going at it, we're all for it.
