Cadillac ATS Coupe headed for Detroit reveal
Mon, 25 Nov 2013Cadillac wouldn't be Cadillac without its two-door models. But the XLR has been discontinued for over four years now, the Elmiraj concept may never see production and the future of the CTS Coupe is still up in the air. That leaves just the ELR, which may not be conventional enough for traditional Cadillac coupe buyers. Fortunately a new coupe is coming along to fill the void.
According to Edmunds, Cadillac will reveal the new ATS coupe just a couple of months from now at the Detroit Auto Show. Expected to mechanically mirror the existing ATS sedan, the new coupe will also more conventionally resemble its four-door counterpart than the CTS, whose coupe version was distinguished by a rakishly sloping roofline.
Expect the same choice of engines to carry over, with a 2.5-liter four serving as the base engine, and both a 2.0-liter turbo four and a 3.6-liter V6 offering more power for those looking for that extra bit of oomph. Following the Detroit reveal, sources anticipate the ATS coupe to go on sale next summer.

Tue, Dec 20 2016The Toyota Automobile Museum is different from a lot of other automaker collections in one very interesting way: It doesn't focus solely on Toyota's own automobiles. While the home team is certainly well represented, the love is spread to plenty of non-Toyota brands and vehicles that are significant to automotive history. And that permanent collection now includes the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz convertible you see here. Yes, the '59 Caddy has the biggest tail fins ever, which makes it measurably significant. You still wouldn't expect to see it in a museum in Japan, though. After updates to the facility and its exhibits finish early next year, the 67-vehicle collection will also include such greats as a Renault 5 (known here as the Le Car), a '64 Ford Mustang, an Audi Quattro, a first-gen Honda Insight, and a Lotus Elite. Someone over there has good taste. You can visit the Toyota Automobile Museum the next time you're in Nagakute City, which is right outside Nagoya. We're booking our tickets now. Hotter Cadillac ATS-V+ could use LS7 power
Tue, May 26 2015Rumor has it Cadillac is working on an even hotter version of the ATS-V, possibly called ATS-V+. And the latest intel from Motor Trend suggests this new model might have a great, big V8 under the hood. The V8 in question is the high-revving, naturally aspirated 7.0-liter LS7 from the Camaro Z/28. The hand-built engine makes 505 horsepower and 481 pound-feet of torque in the Z/28 – a nice increase over the 464 hp and 445 lb-ft in the standard ATS-V, which uses a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6. Motor Trend says the ATS-V+ will come to market with an eight-speed automatic transmission, as well as the seven-speed manual 'box from the Corvette. A dual-clutch transmission will come to market later. Of course, we'll believe it when we see it. But an LS7-powered ATS-V sure sounds like a great package to us. Here's hoping.
