2019 Cadillac XT4 almost revealed in Oscar commercial
Fri, Mar 2 2018The wait is nearly over to see the new Cadillac XT4. The company announced that the new luxury crossover SUV will make its debut at the New York Auto Show and hit dealers in the fall. Before all that, though, we're getting a sneak peek in the above commercial for the new Caddy, which will also air during the Academy Awards. The ad doesn't show us many surprises. It has the same clean and slightly creased lines of most of the rest of the Cadillac lineup. The shape of the grille is very clearly inspired by the Escala. We do get a nice look at the tall D-pillar hugging taillights, which really give the Cadillac a stand-out appearance. When the Cadillac is revealed, we're expecting it to have turbocharged four-cylinder power under the hood powering either the front or all four wheels. This is because it's going to be built off of the Chevy Malibu platform. It will also usher in new interior design language featuring an electronic, likely monostable shifter and a cadre of physical buttons rather than a bank of touch-sensitive ones. Corvette's Performance Data Recorder headed to other cars, will Cadillac ATS-V be first?
Fri, 14 Nov 2014For 2015, the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray gained a novel piece of high-performance technology: The Performance Data Recorder. This trick system combines video from a front-mounted camera with in-car data and GPS information to help drivers record and study their lap times, complete with data overlays. While it's a clever tool for track days, it's also finding popularity as a built-in dash cam of sorts. To this point, the technology has been a Corvette exclusive, but General Motors' executive vice president of global product development, Mark Reuss, has confirmed to Autoblog that it will soon be available in other vehicles.
At a media luncheon on Thursday, we asked whether GM was keen to expand usage of the technology to other models, and if we could expect to see something soon. Reuss coyly replied, "What's soon?" When we suggested the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V (which is scheduled to debut at next week's LA Auto Show), he replied, "There will be other uses, and it won't be that far away. How's that?"
Certainly not an outright confirmation, but we wouldn't be at all surprised to see the next high-po Cadillac roll under the klieg lights at the Los Angeles Convention Center next Wednesday brandishing more than just 450 horsepower.
Cadillac considering more electric cars, Elmiraj business case gaining popularity
Fri, 01 Nov 2013Cadillac's electrification isn't likely to stop at the $76,000 ELR coupe, according a report from TheDetroitBureau.com. Speaking to Cadillac's global sales boss, Bob Ferguson, a successful ELR will likely lead to a larger, even more upscale offering than the Volt-based two-door. "I could certainly see a larger vehicle, something even more luxurious," Ferguson said of a potential second, battery-powered Caddy.
That car would likely boast a more potent version of the Voltec powertrain that motivates the Volt and ELR. This next-generation system is still sometime off, though, and won't likely arrive until the second-generation Volt hits the market.
Besides hinting at future plug-in hybrids, Ferguson spoke to TDB about the improving business case for the Elmiraj Concept, shown at the Pebble Beach Concours in Monterey in August. "I'm very excited about the reception for the Elmiraj," Ferguson said. "I'd like to see it in showrooms as soon as possible," he added, before saying that a business case for the production version of the big coupe still needed to be presented to the brass. "It was made to be operationalized," Ferguson added, which is just what we want to hear when it comes to big, flashy concept cars.
