1969 Buick Skylark Sportwagon on 2040-cars
Victoria, Texas, United States
Typical night out as I ease up to the red light. The driver's eyes are blooming in the rice burner buzzing next to the big Buick. The looks on their faces' are something, staring in awe, you've got to see the confusion, and disillusion in their beady eyes to believe. I snick the column shifter into low gear -- depress the brake and adjust the accelerator to the floor. The front end of the Buick rises a foot, I take the foot off the accelerator and bear down on the brake. The car hangs high in limbo, then I pat the dash . . . ease off on the brake and the front end of the car drops like a rock and assumes it's eat me stance. The rice burner pilot and his passengers stare through pin prick pupils. I'm not much into this new age of drifting, but the big Buick's got several tricks up her pipes. Brakes on, accelerator down, the TA Radials sand off rubber and a nice cloud of smoke drifts into the Mitsubishi's windows. Now that's drifting . . . The exhaust pipes conveniently exit right behind the wheels pointed like shotguns. The smoke's bad, but I tach her up, and the noise drowns out the rice burner's buddy's latest rap song. Green light, hammer down, the big Buick blasts away. At 40 miles an hour I snick her into to second and the tires bark. Bye, bye rice burner. Wouldn't you really rather have A Buick. Never had anything like this. Nine passenger muscle car with air shocks. 455 high performance motor turning a turbo 400 linked to 3.42 gears. Car is extremely clean, needs a dash pad, and a little polishing up top. Rust free Arizona car. I've had many muscle cars. This car brings people in droves. It's a big block ground pounder. If you want a little peace and quite it's not for you. You might never find another car like this anywhere. Most of the station wagons have been crushed, sent to China, and are sitting on Harbor Freight shelves in the form of tools and nick knacks. The car is fast, spacious, to say the least it, is an absolute riot. I truly believe, as it is equipped. It might be the only one in the US like it. It has a tilt wheel featuring a sport steering wheel and a nice cd, iPod, USB compatible deck. Glass is perfect and everything's there. People come to it like hyenas to ham. Runs cool, high volume oil pump, and great documented history. DRIVE ANYWHERE . . . 7K worth of motor work. And Yes -- It's a 455 . . . |

GM recalls 3.6 million vehicles for airbag-software problems
Fri, Sep 9 2016The Basics: General Motors is recalling 3.64 million vehicles across its lineup for an airbag-related issue. The recall covers the 2014-2015 Buick LaCrosse, Chevrolet SS, and Spark EV; 2014-2017 Chevrolet Corvette, Trax, Caprice PPV, Silverado 1500, Buick Encore, and GMC Sierra 1500; and 2015-2017 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, Silverado HD, GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, Sierra HD, Cadillac Escalade, and Escalade ESV. The Problem: Affected vehicles have a sensing and diagnostic module that controls the airbags and seat-belt pretensioners. The software it uses has a defect that can prompt the module to run a diagnostic test under specific driving conditions, which will also deactivate the front airbags and pretensioners. This means that it would be possible for those safety systems to not activate in a crash, potentially leading to injury or death. Injuries/Deaths: General Motors began an investigation that led to the recall after a 2014 Silverado was involved in a crash in which the airbags did not deploy. No information was given as to injuries or deaths. The Fix: Owners can bring their vehicles to a local General Motors dealer where a software update will be installed to fix the issue. The fix will be free of charge. If you own one: General Motors will contact owners of affected cars, and owners can check whether their vehicles are affected by visiting entering their vehicle identification numbers at either the GM Owner Center website or the NHTSA website. Owners can then schedule a time to have the update installed. Related Video:
Buick teases 'groovy' EV concept to debut this summer
Wed, Feb 16 2022Buick has been taking its slow, deliberate steps toward joining the General Motors EV club in the U.S. There was the Electra concept shown at Auto Shanghai way back in 2020. There was the mystery Buick fastback concept that showed up in GM's promotional vid for the Ultifi software platform in October 2021. Then GM applied to reserve the Electra name in Canada in December, and last month applied to reserve the Velite name in the U.S. Now Buick drops this, a tease for an electric vehicle that will debut this summer. The surprise came in the midst of call-and-response tweets between GM and its brands, the mothership asking, "Hey @Cadillac @GMC @Chevrolet @Buick @GMFleet @BrightDrop — your new boss needs a new ride. Which one of you has the best vehicle to serve my EV-il needs?" The Tri-Shield brand responded with this image and the caption, "WeÂ’re fans of all @GM EVs, but this summer we will show you our dreams of a groovy electric future. ? WeÂ’re sure a mastermind who makes his own quasi-futuristic clothes will be impressed." WeÂ’re fans of all @GM EVs, but this summer we will show you our dreams of a groovy electric future. ? Verne Troyer). GM's got 30 EVs on the way by 2025 for global markets, and it has begun to fill in the blanks in the U.S. for all its brands but Buick. Based on the automaker's 2019 Sustainability Report, we're expecting a Buick crossover and an SUV by 2025. If the tweeted image is of a people-hauler, it's the swoopiest crossover we've laid eyes on in some time. The rune-like DRL topped by brightwork and chiseled clear panels sits at the corner of a hood that looks like it could have been borrowed from a C7 Corvette. Frankly, this reminds us more of the Buick-branded fastback sedan in the Ultifi video than anything else we've seen. And we have no problem with any of this. As for the Velite trademark application, that could be Buick transplanting a little bit more of its Chinese operations to the U.S. Buick sells a Velite 7 electric crossover, Velite 6 EV and PHEV crossovers, and a Velite 5 PHEV sedan in China.
GM will recall more than 3.3 million vehicles in China for suspension defect
Sat, Sep 29 2018BEIJING (Reuters) - General Motors' joint venture in China, Shanghai GM, will recall more than 3.3 million Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac vehicles stating Oct. 20 because of a defect with the suspension system, China's market regulator said on Saturday. GM Shanghai said in a text message to Reuters that the suspension arm may be deformed under extreme operating conditions, but there are no known casualties related to the issue. The recall includes cars produced between 2013 and 2018, the State Administration for Market Regulation said in a statement. GM will contact those affected and repair the vehicles free of charge, it said.
