I own a restoration shop and this is a car I am selling for a customer. It is a 1965 Buick Skylark convertible with Grand Sport emblems. He has owned it for about 20 years and all the modifications he has done over that time frame. As seen by the black and gold plates, it has always been a California car so there are no rust issues. The rockers, floors and trunk pan are very clean. The body is real straight and shows very minor touch ups prior to this paint which is a real dark green. There are two areas with scratches in the finish and these are shown in the close up photos. One tire came apart and scratched the left outer wheel well. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would say the paint and body are still a strong 8+ maybe a low 9. The car is really nice and a little detailing and a good polish would help. The engine is a 1970 Buick 455 with dual quads. It runs great and plenty of performance. The transmission is a Turbo 400. The rear end is probably a 3.36 ratio. He had the hood scoop installed to clear a larger air filter. A stock hood is included if you want it. The wheels are 15 inch where the stock were 14's. Super nice driver at highway speeds or around town. A couple of things it needs are the convertible top hydraulics either need new rams or the pump replaced. The rams are disconnected from the top so it could be lowered manually. The shifter is the factory floor shift and because it was originally a two speed auto, you can not drop the trans to the low range. These are things I can fix for you if you wish without too much cost. Overall a real tight daily driver that runs well, drives well and shows well. If you need more photos or have any questions, please call Bruce weekdays at 916-652-6852 or use the "Ask the Seller a Question" feature in this ad. To see and drive the car, I am about 15 miles east of Sacramento just off Highway 80 going towards Reno. Thank you.

2015 Buick Verano gets styling tweak, loses 6-speed manual
Fri, 06 Jun 2014Well, all good things must come to an end. For 2015, the Buick Verano's experiment with a manual transmission will cease, as the American manufacturer has announced it will discontinue the 6MT in the turbocharged version of its compact sedan. According to Buick, the take rate on the Verano Turbo 6MT was (unsurprisingly) low, leading to its discontinuation.
That's not the only bit of news for the Verano, though. After a few years on the market, Buick has seen fit to refresh the popular sedan. The visual changes aren't huge, really, with subtle tweaks to the headlights and taillights. We'd bargain that the average passer-by wouldn't notice a difference between the two.
The main aesthetic change is a new appearance package, available on the mid-range Convenience and Leather option groups. Unimaginatively called just that - Appearance Package - it offers up a new paint color, Desert Dusk Metallic, as well as a grille treatment and a rear spoiler. The new package is, however, limited to naturally aspirated models.
Movie Review: Black Air: The Buick Grand National Documentary
Thu, 06 Dec 2012As Buick currently claws and scratches its way back into relevance to compete against luxury brands like Lexus and Acura, it's hard to believe that not too long ago, the brand had a car that was mentioned in the same breath as Corvette, Lamborghini and Ferrari. That car? None other than the Buick Grand National. All black with a turbocharged V6 and some of the quickest acceleration of its time, the Grand National, in today's standards, is along the lines of a 2013 Shelby GT500 with both cars essentially being a working man's supercar.
The last Grand National rolled off the assembly line in Flint, MI on December 11, 1987, and to mark the silver anniversary of that somber occasion, Black Air is a documentary of the Grand National from the perspective of the enthusiast, the collector, the media and even from those at General Motors responsible for creating such a sinister legend. Like the car itself, Andrew Filippone Jr. shoots the documentary in a raw fashion, and it definitely helps to show why a low-volume muscle car from the 1980s is still the object of obsession for many automotive enthusiasts to this day.
Buick Encore takes a hit of Mokka to tackle Dakar
Wed, 03 Sep 2014There are many vehicles we'd consider taking racing. Even on a cross-country rally as punishing as the Dakar. But a Buick Encore? That's not one that would enter our motorsports-based consciousness. Yet it's basically what General Motors is entering in the South American rally raid this year, and you're looking at it.
Unveiled at the Moscow Motor Show, this rally machine is based on (or at least billed as) an Opel Mokka - the name that GM's European brand applies to the vehicle Americans know as the Encore, Buick's subcompact crossover. Only it's obviously been extensively modified. It's got a ten-inch raised suspension, a 137-gallon fuel tank, carbon-fiber bodywork and... hold on, we're sure we're missing something here. Oh, right: a 6.2-liter V8 kicking out 340 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox.
In other words, this is not the same Encore (or Mokka) you can pick up at your local Buick, Opel or Vauxhall dealership. It's not even close. It's not even recognizable as such, really. It was unveiled alongside a more sedate Opel Mokka Moscow Edition and a slew of other local debuts for the Opel brand that you can read more about in the (translated and original) Russian press release below.
