Condition Report

ENGINE: Runs on all eight cylinders without smoking, missing or knocking. Engine runs at proper temperature. Newer battery & good charging system, new fuel pump. Starts easy and runs strong.

TRANSMISSION: Performs beautifully. Engages gears quickly and shifts through all forward gears and reverse with good downshift and torque converter performance. Clean fluid with no burn odors.

EXTERIOR: Body: Body is in very nice shape with not a single ding down the sides - not even a door ding. Does have an inexplicable small dent on the roof. Very straight. No body rust ever. Above average body. Paint: Paint is nice and shiny everywhere. All original paint. Only three minor scratches as seen in pics: on roof, on left rear door, and a 1/2 inch scratch on front bumper. Way above average for 20 years old - nicer than most 5 year old cars. Wood: Factory wood delete - never had wood. Painted factory pinstripes. Other: Lower stainless bright trim is very nice with a couple minor dings in the front bumper bright trim. Rubber side trim is all there. All glass is good - no cracks or chips. Undercarriage is very nice with only minor surface rust - see the pics. Underhood sheet metal, tailgate sill and door jambs have no rust as seen in pics. Aluminum wheels are in excellent shape.

INTERIOR: Interior of the car is in very nice shape as you'd expect of the low miles. The only complaint is some very minor wear on the driver's side carpet. Dash has no cracks, leather seating areas are in great shape, cargo deck carpet in great shape, third seat like new, headliner is nice with no sagging or fading, steering wheel is in nice shape with very minor dye wear, door panels are nice with no cracks or fading. No smoke or pet odors. Very nice interior overall.

ELECTRICAL STUFF: All inspection items work (lights, horn, wipers, etc.) Except for the power antenna, which is stuck in the extended position, all other power options work reliably, including power windows, power locks, power driver's seat, hot heat and cold A/C, tilt, cruise, am/fm stereo cassette, rear window release, rear wiper, keyless entry, twilight sentinel, intermittent wipers, and rear defroster.

DRIVEABILITY: Drives out nicely. Steering is tight, alignment is good, suspension is tight. Brakes work well with good linings. Tires have about 80% tread remaining on a matched set of whitewall radials. Solid, quiet exhaust with no leaks. Check engine light is not lit (except at start up as it should.) No complaints - drive anywhere.

Short version terms: Small non-refundable deposit as listed (but fast) by Paypal within 24 hours. Balance due in 5 days by cash in person, wire transfer, or Wells Fargo cashier's check. Will meet you or your transporter at my location by appointment after 6 pm weekdays or anytime weekends. No administrative fee on this auction. Ford, Toyota clean up in Best Car For The Money Awards

The U.S. News Best Cars for the Money Awards picks winners by looking at the average transaction price, five-year total cost of ownership, the regard a car has from the automotive press, reliability figures from J.D. Power and Associates and safety data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The result, according to the magazine, is "the best combination of critical acclaim and long-term value."
Ford nabbed six of the 21 categories that received awards this year, the Focus, Fusion, Fusion Hybrid, Taurus, Escape and Edge getting trophies. Toyota and its Lexus and Scion sub-brands took another five, the Tacoma and Tundra owning the two categories given to pickup trucks. The other ten awards were split between Honda with three, Buick with two, and one each for Subaru, BMW, Hyundai, Chevrolet and Mazda.

Buick reveals production GL8 Century minivan, and you can't have one

The futuristic GL8 MPV concept Buick showed late last year in China is headed to production. This jazzed-up people-mover appears to have held true to its concept design, with only a few elements of the exterior getting attention before heading to the assembly line. At first blush, the most significant change from the concept is the exterior paint scheme, which was essentially inverted over several of its surfaces. The glossy silver grille of the concept gave way to a more conventional honeycomb pattern for the production version, but accents in a similar silver finish are now visible along the hood and roofline and the rising wave that peaks just in front of the GL8 Century's C-pillar. Admittedly, the production car loses some of the wilder elements of the concept's cabin, but perhaps not as much as you might expect based on the interior photo included here. We can only see the rear seats, which give off sort of a baby private jet vibe that is vastly more impressive than what Buick offers in its American SUVs. The Century will sit atop Buick's GL8 lineup of MPVs (which includes the more-pedestrian GL8 ES and GL8 Legacy) in China when it goes on sale later this year.
