1973 Buick Boat Tail Riviera

This is A very nice un-restored survivor. It had one repaint in 1988

I am the third owner. The retired gentleman I purchased the car from had known the original owner and the car since it was new

It was stored in a garage for 20 years before the second owner purchased it

Body panels are straight and rust Free. All sheet metal is original to the car. The grille and front header were replaced in April 1988 due to a deer accent. The car by that time had other paint flaws but no rust so the owner had the full car repainted as he wanted it all to match perfect

It was repainted in the original color "Autumn Gold" lacquer paint. GM named this gold but the car is more of a medium green/gold

Interior is extremely nice and original. Rare sport interior with console shift. Included is a very rare dealer installed still Working Buick CB radio with antenna in trunk. The carpet appears to have been replaced along with the lap belts

All four power windows function. All gauges and lights working. Clock not working

The Car has the original 455 V8 and runs and drives well. No engine noise or knocks. It appears every thing under the hood it there including the original and working well air conditioning. Very clean engine and engine compartment. I drove the car in 83 degrees Fahrenheit the day I took the photos and was driving in cool comfort. Transmission shifts well

Under body, frame and floors very solid with no holes and only light surface rust

The previous owner recently drove the car from Michigan to California and back. On that long drive the car did blow the front passenger side tire and the belts thrashed the fender paint. Please scroll down to see pics. As a result he had new Hankook  whitewall tires put on all four corners

He also had the dual exhaust and mufflers replaced. The tail pipes from mufflers to bumper were not replaced

If you have been closely watching the vintage/classic car market lately, then you will know that un-restored cars can sell for higher prices than completely restored cars. This could be a great investment. With prices of 1960's Rivieras rising, this normally over time will drive the price up of the more affordable early 70's models. A great opportunity  to put your money into something you can see, feel and enjoy versus watching your money go down in the stock market or only making .5 percent in CD your money market account

I am an honest seller and have sold other vintage cars on ebay and all buyers had no complaints. I have included tons of photos. Make sure to scroll all the way down. I have many more photos posted in listing than the 24 the ebay allows to post for free. Car is available to worldwide buyers. Please see below some trusted third part international shipping services that can handle all the paperwork and shipping to get the car to you

The car does have a some drips. Main oil leak appears to be due to a failing fuel pump gasket. Not a difficult or expensive fix. Car starts right up but does stammer a bit until completely warmed up. Rubber Seal between driver side widows should be replaced (available in aftermarket catalogs or on ebay) Rear Bumper (See photos) has a dent in passenger side corner

Please ask all questions before buying. Potential buyers buyer are welcomed and encouraged to inspect the car in person before purchasing. I want the next owner to be happy with their purchase. The car is insured and I will allow serious buyers to ride in it or drive it. Please understand the car is very nice but not perfect. But if you are familiar with vintage and classic cars I'm confident you will be impressed with the overall condition

Car is being sold as-is with no warranty. A $500 instant non-refundable PayPal deposit required when you hit buy now. This is needed to show you are a serious buyer

Full preferred payment would be cash in person. If out of state or country, bank to bank money transfer recommended. No personal checks. Bank checks OK but car will not be released to buyer until payment clears my bank

2013 Buick Encore nets strong IIHS, NHTSA safety scores

Wed, 05 Jun 2013

After being crushed from every which way and rolled over like a labrador, the 2013 Buick Encore has been named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. To earn the accolade, a vehicle must achieve the highest rating of "Good" in each of the institute's four main crash tests: Front Moderate Overlap, Side, Rollover and Rear. The Encore aced those four tests with "Good" ratings, but missed out on the coveted Top Safety Pick+ designation by receiving a Poor rating in the institute's new Front Small Overlap test. To be named a Top Safety Pick+, the Encore would need to score at least an "Acceptable" rating in the new test, as well as "Good" in all four original crash tests.
Despite the miss, the Encore joins the Enclave, LaCrosse, Verano and Regal as Top Safety Picks all. If you count only the Encore with all-wheel drive, then all five Buicks have also earned five-star overall ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Adminstration, making Buick one of the few manufacturers to offer a full lineup with high scores from both safety rating organizations.
The front-wheel-drive Encore, despite performing equally as well as the all-wheel-drive version in NHTSA's crash tests, only earned four stars overall. As far as we can tell, the discrepancy between the two is because some safety equipment, like Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Assist, are optional features on the FWD Encore and standard on the AWD model.

Buick mulling more powerful Encore; diesel too

Mon, 21 Oct 2013

Looking to set itself apart in the mid-luxury segment, Buick is looking to introduce a diesel engine somewhere in its US lineup. And according to Edmunds, the two best chances of a diesel Buick rest with the Encore and Verano.
In both our First Drive and Review of the 2013 Encore, our chief complaint about the compact crossover was the the lack of power from the 138-horsepower turbo engine. Edmunds says that the recently introduced 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine (with both gas and diesel variants) from the Encore's overseas cousin, the Opel Mokka, could make its way into the Encore delivering the much-needed boost in power.
Then there's the Verano. As a close relative to the Chevy Cruze, which just added a diesel engine for 2014, the article speculates that a Verano Diesel might actually be the more "probably candidate" if and when Buick decides to add a diesel model to its portfolio. Either way, offering such an engine in one of its products could be a great way for Buick to differentiate itself from Cadillac and possibly even attract buyers from Volkswagen, Audi and Mercedes-Benz looking for a luxurious, fuel-efficient vehicle.

What's in a trademark? Sometimes, the next iconic car name

Thu, 07 Aug 2014

The United States Patent and Trademark Office is a treasure trove for auto enthusiasts, especially those who double as conspiracy theorists.
Why has Toyota applied to trademark "Supra," the name of one of its legendary sports cars, even though it hasn't sold one in the United States in 16 years? Why would General Motors continue to register "Chevelle" long after one of the most famous American muscle cars hit the end of the road? And what could Chrysler possibly do with the rights to "313," the area code for Detroit?
