1971 Buick Riviera Boattail on 2040-cars
Aberdeen, Mississippi, United States
I am selling my 1971 Buick Riviera with 111,724 original miles on it. It has the original 455 with 4 barrel carburetor, has lots of power and runs very well, never presented me with a problem or failed to start. Has AC (currently not working, has no belt and needs charge I'm sure), power windows (all of which function), power steering and disk brakes up front. The only issue with the engine is the carburetor, the linkage on the passenger side of the carb is missing (can be seen in pictures) which causes the 4 barrel not to open properly. It makes for a good cruiser as is but if you punch it, it will stutter since it's not opening up. It does run great aside from this issue, a new carb or a kit would fix this. Has a new dual exhaust ran and sounds awesome. The body is in good shape with very little rust. There is a little on the top side of the door jam, a spot along the lip of the hood, and a little in the lip in the trunk under the rear window but it isn't rusted through, just surface rust all of which can be seen in the pictures. I believe this is due to a leak in the rear window, bad seal or something along those lines, just haven't had the opportunity to deal with it and since I keep it in the carport it hasn't really been a problem. The drivers side rear floor pan has been patched and is strong but not a professional job has can be seen if you crawl under the car. The interior is in decent shape, the rear seats need cleaning up and there are 4 cracks in the dash, I took a picture of the worst one. Also, the headliner has been removed. The bucket seats that are in it now are not original, but I do have the original bench seat that came in the car. It is complete but could use recovering as the passenger side seams are splitting and there's a large tear in the driver's side. Speaking of the driver's side, the door handle is broken on that door. It can still be easily opened from the outside but a replacement handle would be ideal. Has $1,000 worth of American Racing wheels which give it a good stance. Tires are fair but could use replacing, more so up front. All in all this is a good solid car, a great driver and with a little work it could be in excellent shape. I drove this car to a wedding recently and put over 400 miles on it in a weekend, it's the only classic I own and will leave home in without my toolbox. Comes with some original pamphlets and also some service records of the car that were kept. I have tried to mention everything about the car and believe I have done so, but feel free to ask any questions. I can be reached via message through eBay or on my cell at 662-315-1337, text or call. Thanks for looking, Thomas.

NHTSA may greatly expand GM airbag recall
Wed, 05 Jun 2013The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is pondering whether to dramatically upscale a pair of airbag recalls on General Motors vehicles. The two existing campaigns, one launched in the fall of 2012 and the other in January of this year covered just 6,845 vehicles, but the government agency is considering whether to boost the recall to around 400,000 units.
The existing recalls involve the the closely related 2012 Buick Verano (shown) and Chevrolet Cruze sedans, along with Sonic and Camaro models. The root of the problem is a shorting bar in the inflator module of the steering-wheel-mounted airbag that may contact the primary state airbag terminal, a condition that could prevent deployment in an accident. Dealer technicians have been replacing the steering wheel airbag coils to fix the issue.
According to a post on NHTSA's website, the root cause, said to be a production issue, may not have been completely isolated - particularly for the second recall, which was for the Camaro. According to Automotive News, GM says it is cooperating with the government investigation, but won't say whether or not it knows the true origin of the problem.
2015 Buick Verano offered with six-speed manual after all
Mon, 09 Jun 2014Good news, boys and girls (well, at least those of you who still like shifting for yourselves). Buick got in touch with us to correct some information that it had mistakenly announced; namely, that the 2015 Verano will lose its optional six-speed manual transmission. Apparently, that announcement was incorrect, and the compact sedan will indeed continue to offer a manual option for 2015, despite what we're certain is a low take rate. Additionally, the Desert Dusk Metallic paint that was said to come as part of an Appearance Package is no longer part of the deal. With that out of the way, we now return you to your regularly scheduled automotive-obsessive broadcast...
GM warning 800,000 owners that their cars may need oil changes more frequently than they say
Fri, 05 Apr 2013The days of changing your engine oil every 3,000 miles are long gone thanks to most cars having automatic oil monitoring systems, but about 800,000 General Motors vehicles apparently have incorrect monitoring software that is leading to premature engine component wear. According to Autoweek, certain 2010-2012 Buick LaCrosse, Regal, Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain models equipped with 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines could be going too long in between oil changes resulting in a higher-than-normal number of warranty claims for the engine's balance chain. The balance chain links the balance shaft to the crankshaft, and a worn one can produce higher noise levels.
As a fix, GM dealers will be reprogramming the software for the monitors in an effort to reduce the interval between oil changes, which varies based on driving habits and conditions. Through February 2015, the software update will be done at no cost to vehicle owners, but since this is not a recall, after that point, it will be up to the discretion of dealers as to whether or not they will charge for the service. What isn't immediately clear is whether GM plans on giving assistance to out-of-warranty customers who are experiencing engine issues from the worn chain.
