HERE IS A BUICK WITH THE GROUND SHAKING 425 NAILHEAD DUAL QUAD MOTOR,
TURBO 400 TRANS AND POSI REAR. DRIVELINE HAS BEEN REBUILT. MOTOR HAS
VERY MILD CAM, AND TRANS (BS-65) REBUILT WITH SYNTHETIC FLUID. TRANSMISSION LEAVES A COUPLE OF DROPS HERE AND THERE AFTER SITTING. I BELIEVE IT IS FROM THE PAN. IT IS NOT COMING FROM THE FRONT SEAL. REAR WAS FINE
AND LEFT UNTOUCHED.
RUNS LIKE A CHAMP. HANDLES AND STOPS LIKE A 1965 BUICK. BOTH CARBS WERE PROFESSIONALLY REBUILT WITHIN THE LAST 2 YEARS MOTOR SHOWS A CASTING # B1364704 WHICH MAKES IT A 63-66 425 BLOCK. THERE ARE NO #'S IN FRONT OF THE VALLEY PAN. STORY ON THE MISSING #'S.......... WHEN WE PULLED THE MOTOR FOR A REBUILD, THE MACHINIST INDICATED TO ME THAT THERE WERE NO STAMPED NUMBERS ON THE FRONT EDGE OF THE MOTOR, WHERE THEY ARE NORMALLY FOUND. WHEN THE MOTOR WAS DISMANTLED, IT APPEARED TO HAVE NEVER BEEN REBUILT, SO THE MISSING NUMBERS ARE A MYSTERY. HE OFFERED TO MAKE IT A MATCHING NUMBERS CAR WITH HIS STAMP KIT, BUT I FIGURED THAT IF ALL IT TOOK TO MAKE A MATCHING NUMBERS CAR WAS A STAMP KIT, I WOULD JUST LEAVE IT AS I FOUND IT. CAR IS LOADED WITH OPTIONS: A/C, P/S, P/B, P/W, CRUISE CONTROL, TRUNK RELEASE, POWER DRIVER SEAT, POWER ANTENNA, TILT WHEEL ETC. MANY OF THE OPTIONS ARE NOT FUNCTIONAL, AS THE VACUUM LINES WERE NOT RECONNECTED WHEN THE MOTOR WAS REINSTALLED. DRIVERS SEAT ONLY MOVES SLIGHTLY, BUT I NEVER WORRIED ABOUT IT AS IT IS COMFORTABLE FOR ME. CLAMSHELLS WORK VIA A TOGGLE SWITCH AND ARE OPERATED BY A FORD BRONCO POWER WINDOW MOTOR ADAPTED TO FIT THE ORIGINAL LINKAGE. THE A/C WORKED WHEN I GOT THE CAR , BUT NOW I GUESS IT HAS RUN OUT OF GAS. INTERIOR IS PRESENTABLE....NOT NEAR PERFECT. 6 OUT OF 10 ITEMS NOT STOCK ARE THE RADIO W/AMP (YES, I CUT THE DASH) AND A 10 DISC CHANGER IN THE TRUNK THAT HAS STOPPED READING CD'S, PERTRONIX IGNITION, DUAL MASTER CYLINDER AND THREE POINT SEAT BELTS. CAR HAS SOME RUST BUBBLES HERE AND THERE, BUT THEY REALLY HAVE NOT CHANGED MUCH IN THE PAST 10 YEARS. I TRIED NOT TO DRIVE IT IN THE RAIN, AND IT ALWAYS SLEPT INSIDE. YOU MAY BE ABLE TO SEE THEM IN THE PICS, THERES A FEW AROUND EACH WHEEL WELL. DON'T EXPECT A 100 POINT CAR AT THIS PRICE. THIS IS A REALLY COOL DRIVER, AND ITS NOT A TYPICAL CHEVY OR FORD (NO OFFENSE, I HAVE BOTH MYSELF) |

Weekly Recap: Ford GT inspires guitar, foosball table, sailboat
Sat, Apr 18 2015Ford design vice president Moray Callum had just wrapped up a briefing on the interior of the Ford GT last month, but something seemed out of place. He grinned and pointed behind him, "You might be wondering why I have a boat behind me," he said mischievously. It was there because Ford set its designers on a mission to stretch and showcase their talents: design non-automotive objects inspired by the interior of the GT supercar. Callum received quite a response, too. His team produced a guitar, a foosball table (yeah bro!), a racing sailboat, a Wi-Fi speaker and some furniture. As the veteran design chief explained, "It's a really great exercise both to highlight our designers' talents, but also to really see how our design philosophy can work and how you can use it and get a common response back from a worldwide design team." Guitar View 25 Photos The objects have been on display this week at the Salone del Mobile furniture and fashion design fair in Milan, Italy, where Ford has had a presence for three years. There's also a light exhibition that apparently was inspired by the GT, as well. While this might seem a little far-fetched for the automaker, Ford said exhibitions like the Salone del Mobile give its designers another way to be creative and ultimately produce striking interior style. Ford wants this to be a differentiator, as research shows consumers are placing emphasis on the layout and features inside when they're making a decision about buying a new car. It's a little light hearted – but it's also potentially big business. Other News & Notes Cadillac CT6 platform could be used for Buick General Motors product chief Mark Reuss said the Cadillac CT6 platform could be used for a large Buick, though "not yet," Automotive News reported. The underpinnings can accommodate rear-wheel or all-wheel drive and would give Buick the large flagship it lacks. The report jibes with comments Reuss made at a roundtable with Autoblog and other reporters at the New York Auto Show. When asked if Buick had space for a large car on the CT6 chassis, he replied, "Yeah, I think it does. Yeah, I think we do." Buick has revamped its lineup in recent years with attractive crossovers and small and midsize sedans, but hasn't added the proverbial flagship that's yearned for by enthusiasts. Buick surprised industry observers with the stylish Avenir concept at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year that raised the possibility of a halo sedan.
GM’s Charlie Wilson was right: Stronger regulations can help U.S. automakers
Fri, Oct 26 2018Charlie Wilson had been the president and CEO of General Motors before being nominated to become secretary of defense by Dwight Eisenhower. During his Senate confirmation hearings, he controversially said, "For years I thought what was good for our country was good for General Motors, and vice versa." And he was right. While car companies aren't necessarily the most progressive when it comes to things that might have the slightest possibility of political blowback, General Motors should be credited for doing something absolutely forthright in this regard with its announcement that it wants the federal U.S. government not to squash the California Air Resources Board's emissions requirements but to actually create a 50-state "National Zero Emissions Vehicle" program that, in the words of Mark Reuss, executive vice president and president, Global Product Group and Cadillac, "will drive the scale and infrastructure investments needed to allow the U.S. to lead the way to a zero emission future." Filing comments to the Safer Affordable Fuel-Efficient Vehicles Rule for Model Years 2021-2026 Passenger Cars and Light Trucks is one thing. But a graphic the company developed for this announcement — shown above — is something else entirely, something that is absolutely credible, creative and clever. There is a photo of a Chevrolet Bolt EV driving along a highway, which seems to be in Marin County (based on the blurred San Francisco skyline in the background). Text on the photo states: "It's Time for American Leadership in Zero Emissions Vehicles." It seems to say, in effect, "If we want to make America great again, then we're going to do it by leading in technology, not by retreating behind weakened regulations." General Motors understands that the auto market is globally competitive, and if U.S.-based companies are going to be in the game, then they'd better be able to out-innovate the companies based elsewhere, where emissions and economy standards are not being weakened. GM earnings rise 1% as buyers pay more for popular pickups
Thu, Aug 1 2019DETROIT — General Motors said Thursday that higher prices for popular pickup trucks and SUVs helped overcome slowing global sales and profit rose by 1% in the second quarter. The Detroit automaker said it made $2.42 billion, or $1.66 per share, from April through June. Adjusting for restructuring costs, GM made $1.64 per share, blowing by analyst estimates of $1.44. Quarterly revenue fell 2% to $36.06 billion, but still beat estimates. Analysts polled by FactSet expected $35.97 billion. Global sales fell 6% to 1.94 million vehicles led by declines in North America and Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa. The company says sales in China were weak, and it expects that to continue through the year. In the United States, customers paid an average of $41,461 for a GM vehicle during the quarter, an increase of 2.2%, as buyers went for loaded-out pickups and SUVs, according to the Edmunds.com auto pricing site. The U.S. is GM's most profitable market. Chief Financial Officer Dhivya Suryadevara said she expects the strong pricing to continue, especially as GM rolls out a diesel pickup and new heavy-duty trucks in the second half of the year. "We think the fundamentals do remain strong, especially in the truck market," she said, adding that strength in the overall economy and aging trucks now on the road should help keep the trend going. Light trucks accounted for 83.1% of GM's sales in the quarter, and pickup truck sales rose 8.5% as GM transitioned to new models of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, according to Edmunds, which provides content to The Associated Press. As usual, GM made most of its money in North America, reporting $3 billion in pretax earnings. International operations including China broke even, while the company spent $300 million on its GM Cruise automated vehicle unit. Its financial arm made $500 million in pretax income. Suryadevara said GM saw $700 million in savings during the quarter from restructuring actions announced late last year that included cutting about 8,000 white-collar workers through layoffs, buyouts and early retirements. The company also announced plans to close five North American factories, shedding another 6,000 jobs. About 3,000 factory workers in the U.S. whose jobs were eliminated at four plants will be placed at other factories, but they could have to relocate. GM expects the restructuring to generate $2 billion to $2.5 billion in annual cost savings by the end of this year.
