1963 Buick Riviera 401 Nailhead Very solid car that is ready for a new home. I have too many projects and I don't have time for this one. My loss is your gain!!! This Riviera is currently sporting a fresh coat of flat black enamel . The car was originally white and has blue interior. The interior is not in great shape but it is all there. The front seats have been recovered at some point. The car starts, runs, and drives down the road nicely. I've only driven up and down the road 10-15 miles at a time but have had no issues. It does have a tick in the top end. It is likely a lifter making this noise, seems this is a very common issue with Nail Heads. It doesn't smoke or use any oil. Brakes are all new and the master cylinder has been rebuilt. New rear wheel bearings and the fronts have been packed. I recently changed all the fluids, and it has new plugs.
Please look closely at all the pictures and you will see this is a very solid car. I've included pictures of the few body panels with issues. There is a small rust spot on the drivers lower quarter panel, smaller than a dime. There are 2 or 3 small rust spots in the floors, but better than almost all cars of this age. There is rust in the hood lip, it has multiple pin holes. I've tried to point out all of the bad with this car to make sure you know exactly what you are getting, but this is a really nice car that I think anyone looking for solid a project will be completely satisfied with. GM laying off 510 amidst slow Cadillac, small car sales
Wed, 12 Nov 2014General Motors is laying off about 510 workers from two factories beginning in January, and it could be months before the automaker needs some of that latent capacity to come back on line. A combination of poor sales and high dealer inventories are prompting the cutbacks, according to Automotive News.
The largest changes come at GM's Lansing Grand River plant, where the Cadillac ATS and CTS are made. An entire shift of about 350 workers is being laid off, but the automaker hopes to find positions for some of them at other nearby factories. The decision leaves just a single shift building vehicles there. According to Automotive News, the move is partially spurred by Johan de Nysschen's plan to make Cadillac a more exclusive brand.
The lost shift will likely return for production of the next-generation Chevrolet Camaro at the plant, according to the report, but GM isn't saying when that will be. A previous announcement from the Canadian Auto Workers union indicated that the Oshawa, Ontario, factory would lose the coupe in late 2015 or early 2016.
38k GM eAssist hybrids recalled for circuit board, fire risk
Mon, 06 May 2013General Motors has issued a recall covering 38,197 2012 and 2013 model-year Chevy Malibu Eco, Buick LaCrosse and Regal sedans equipped with eAssist, and sold in the United States. The automaker will check the generator control module for proper operation. Only vehicles built before December 2012 are being recalled.
According to the automaker, a malfunctioning generator control module could slowly drain the battery, causing an indicator to light up in the dash. If that indicator is ignored, the driver may experience a stalling engine, and in some cases, "a burning or melting odor, smoke, and, in rare instances, a fire in the trunk."
GM says the issue is not with the eAssist battery pack; the smoke and fire comes from overheating of the control board. One trunk fire has been reported, but no injuries are known. Scroll down below for the official press release from GM.
Opel Cascada is Europe's Buick convertible [w/video]
Wed, 17 Oct 2012As we reported earlier, there has been much speculation regarding a Buick convertible of sorts. The most ringing endorsement of this conjecture comes today from General Motors Europe, as the new Opel Cascada has debuted on the interwebs. Opel calls the four-passenger Cascada an "athletic, glamorous midsize convertible." With a length of 4,697mm (185 in.), the Cascada is as long as an Audi A5, to which GM has said it would be slightly larger.
The Cascada, which is Spanish for waterfall, features a cloth convertible top that retracts in 17 seconds and at speeds up to 50 km/h (31 mph). The Cascada features a 1.4-liter turbo gas engine, 2.0-liter turbodiesel with 165 horsepower and a range-topping 1.6-liter turbocharged Ecotec engine that puts out 170 horsepower and 280 Nm (207 lb-ft). Power is sent through either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.
According to GM, the Cascada will also come rife with luxury and tech features. In addition to adaptive forward lighting and ergonomic heated front seats, the convertible will feature Opel Eye, which is a front camera that can recognize traffic signs and incorporates lane departure warning and forward collision alert.
