Here is a car that you don't see much anymore. Back in the 80s, the Buick LeSabre was a large car based on the Chevrolet Caprice but with a better ride and a more luxurious and upscale feel. This one is no exception! It is a very nice car that is nearly impossible to find.

Its a 1985 Buick LeSabre Custom 4 dr. sedan. It was purchased brand new here in Bradenton Fl. at Conley Buick in 1985 and has only a shade over 59K original miles since new. It was garage kept its entire life, and it shows. It has all power options, AC, tilt, cruise, cloth seats and wire wheel covers.

I bought if from the original owners family at a garage sale a few weeks ago. I looked it over, replaced the bumper filler panels, cleaned it up a bit and now I am in love with it, but I must sell it to replace it with a small van or pickup. I will walk you around the car and describe it exactly as I know it.

Exterior

The paint is all original, not a spec of rust or paint work (except for the bumper fillers) can be found on any of the sheet metal. It has been waxed many many times in its life and there are traces of wax buildup but I removed most of it. I put on a fresh coat of nano wax after I replaced the bumper fillers. I also replaced the cracked grill with an NOS GM unit. All of the lights, chrome trim, and glass are in mint condition, the tires are like new Firestones and the wire wheel covers are perfect. A good professional detail would make it look even better. There are some minor dings on the passenger rear door and a few other light scratches and dings. From 5 feet away, this car looks showroom new. The color is Light Sage, which is not the nicest color but it grows on you fast. I would rate the exterior a 8 out of 10

Interior

I didn't touch the interior, as pictured is the way I got the car. It is nearly flawless. It could use a carpet shampoo as there are some chocolate spots and a couple of tar spots under the drivers floor mat. The headliner is just starting to sag on the passengers side. The seats are near perfect, the dash and door panels are in great shape. No odd odors, non-smoker car. The drivers side power seat gear is stripped but that's an easy fix. The power windows are a little slow but a good lubrication would help. I would rate the interior a 7 out of 10

Mechanical

The engine runs perfect. The transmission shifts perfect. Steering is tight and the brakes are smooth. The tires are just slightly flat spotted from sitting which is no big deal. It drives like a new car. The AC is ice cold and everything seems to work as it should except the power seat. All lights work perfectly and the radio sounds good however the left front speaker doesn't seem to work. I would rate this car a 9 out of 10 mechanically.

Overall

This would make a great cruiser for the 80s fan or a great custom car. All of my neighbors have raved about this car and talk about how you just don't see these anymore. Its the kind of classic that you can live with. Turn the AC on, drive it in the rain, etc. It has the original owners manuals, some service records, all 4 original keys and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere. Its that nice of a car. I would give this car and overall condition rating of 8.5 out of 10

Buick will cease using ‘Buick’ badge on vehicles from 2019

Mon, Mar 12 2018

GM Authority recognized that the recently unveiled 2019 Buick Envision is missing something: a " Buick" badge on the left side of the tailgate. Every other vehicle the carmaker sells features that script, but not the new mid-sized crossover. When the site asked about the omission, "representatives recently told GM Authority that Buick will stop using the brand badge on the rear of its vehicles, starting with the 2019 model year." The only identifiers that will remain are the three-color Tri Shield logo and the model nameplate, i.e., "Envision" or " Regal." It's a bold game for a mass-market major automaker, though Audi, Hyundai and Volkswagen follow the same trend. Even Bugatti, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and Aston Martin affix their brand names to their vehicles within company icons or on brake calipers, albeit in small fonts. The coming Continental will wear the word "Bentley" across its trunk, silverware the present Continental does without. Porsche allows customers to delete model designations, but it must be requested. At the other end of the spectrum, the Ford Mustang Bullitt wears zero badges, but the Bullitt is a special edition of a well known model that otherwise advertises its provenance everywhere. Buick plays in hard-fought segments where mass appeal overrules instantly-identifiable design daring. Those kinds of carmakers usually want to take every opportunity to advertise every sale. Remember the last Buick to go without a make badge? The terrifically handsome Buick Avista concept that wore only two Tri Shield logos and its model name on the decklid. Perhaps that gave Buick some ideas. If the carmaker plans to start putting out cars like the Avista, then this move makes perfect sense. Update: A commenter pointed out that Hyundai vehicles don't have "Hyundai" badges, only the "Flying H." We've thought of some other brands/models, too. So Buick has mass-market company. Buick celebrates 110 years by naming most significant model of each decade

Sun, 23 Jun 2013

In May of 1903, Buick began work on its first vehicle, the 1904 Model B, the first example of which was sold to a doctor in Flint, Michigan. That first sale was appropriate since later on, Buick became known as a "doctor's car." The Model B is the first of 11 cars chosen by Buick to highlight each decade of the company's 110-year history.
The 1916 D-45 Touring with a six-cylinder engine was Buick's highest seller that year, and helped push overall sales past six figures for the first time, making Buick the top-selling automotive brand. In 1931, Series 50 got an eight-cylinder engine, which helped the company survive the Great Depression. The 1936 Century was the first Buick that could hit 100 miles per hour, the 1949 Roadmaster had a supporting role in Rain Man, the 1953 Skylark had Italian wire wheels and the owner's name engraved on its steering wheel.
Then we have the iconic 1963 Riviera, the V6-powered 1975 Regal, and in 1987, the legendary GNX. With a turbocharged, intercooled V6 pumping out 276-horsepower it could hit 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds. In 1999 Buick built the first car in China, the Century, and that country remains the brand's largest market.

Movie Review: Black Air: The Buick Grand National Documentary

Thu, 06 Dec 2012

As Buick currently claws and scratches its way back into relevance to compete against luxury brands like Lexus and Acura, it's hard to believe that not too long ago, the brand had a car that was mentioned in the same breath as Corvette, Lamborghini and Ferrari. That car? None other than the Buick Grand National. All black with a turbocharged V6 and some of the quickest acceleration of its time, the Grand National, in today's standards, is along the lines of a 2013 Shelby GT500 with both cars essentially being a working man's supercar.
The last Grand National rolled off the assembly line in Flint, MI on December 11, 1987, and to mark the silver anniversary of that somber occasion, Black Air is a documentary of the Grand National from the perspective of the enthusiast, the collector, the media and even from those at General Motors responsible for creating such a sinister legend. Like the car itself, Andrew Filippone Jr. shoots the documentary in a raw fashion, and it definitely helps to show why a low-volume muscle car from the 1980s is still the object of obsession for many automotive enthusiasts to this day.
