1964 Buick LeSabre 355 Wildcat Engine
This Buick LeSabre is a great car. It has 72,000 miles. 4 doors without pillars, great for open window cruising. It is 100% original. Everything is totally stock. I would like to call it a barn find since it came from the 2nd owner who just drove it for fun. I will rate the condition good for a 50 year old car.
This is a great start for a Rat Rod or Lowrider or great Summer Classic Cruiser.
There are only a couple small spots of rust in normal places – at bottom of front fenders and a small spot at bottom fear fender. Any other rust is only surface rust. The car has mostly original paint. I say that because the rooftop is original patina in deep blue. The bottom of the car is original paint on top half. It appears the bottom half was repainted some. There is no rust at all on the pillars, floor boards, trunk, and window areas or around critical structure areas. The floorboards are really clean.
The body on all the lines is straight. The doors show dings and a couple dents which seem to have been pushed back out, but there is no break or rust in the metal. The rear bumper does need to be replaced. The original owner was elderly and bumped a few things which are why the doors and rear bumper show the dings and dents. Bottom line is the cars body is a great place to start for a restore or touch it up to drive it like it is.
The 355 Wildcat Engine runs good and can drive reasonable distances right now. This was the year they went back to a cast iron block with aluminum heads and intake. It will need a water pump which I will replace. It also needs an exhaust system and just has cheater duals on it for now. This way you can pick the kind of exhaust you want. Power Steering, Power Brakes, 2 speed transmission all work great.
Almost every function on the car seems to work. The windows work great. The wing windows easily. The doors close smooth and solid. All the rubber is in good to great shape. The trunk weather stripping is in great shape. The hood padding underneath is in great shape as well. The electronics, turn signals, windshield wipers – even the squirters work and has a backup glass water bottle under the hood.
The interior is also in great shape, appears original and good looking. There are two minor tears in the seats but not in the seating area. The original carpet is exceptionally clean. All the interior door panels are in real good shape but the driver’s panel needs a little attention to put the vinyl in place at the very bottom.
The issues I see that need attention are, the exhaust, carb should be rebuilt or replaced to be more efficient, heater core is disconnected and may need replacing, door body panels are not perfect, and will need new tires to be road trustworthy.
This is a great car to invest in. We bought it to use to promote our business, but we have to reduce our projects. You can have a cool car, rat rod, lowrider or anything you want to make of it.
I am asking $4,500 or best offer. If you’re short on cash, I can take a credit card for payment since I bought this to use for my business promotion.
Possible delivery may be an option to certain parts of the country for a reasonable cost.

GM finds steering flaw, decides it doesn't warrant a recall
Tue, Apr 14 2015Guess what? General Motors is back in the spotlight for not recalling something. This time, though, not only does the company have an argument against a recall campaign, but its position is supported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. According to The New York Times, over 50 owners of GM vehicles have reported instances of stuck or seized steering after driving long distances without moving the wheel. One owner complained to NHTSA that the "locked" steering of their 2013 Buick Verano caused a collision with a concrete barrier in a construction zone. Along with the 2013 to 2014 model year Verano sedans, Chevrolet Cruze and Malibu sedans are also affected. Considering the popularity of those models, GM needs to have a reason for not issuing a recall, right? "Based on a very low rate of occurrence – ranging from less than one half to less than two incidents per thousand vehicles – and the fact that the condition is remedied when the wheel is turned, GM determined this was not a safety issue," spokesman Alan Adler told The Times. The company has, however, issued a technical service bulletin for owners that complain of the problem. The fix is nothing more than a software update that is covered for 10 years or 150,000 miles from new. NHTSA cited GM's actions, along with descriptions of the problems from customers, in its decision not to issue a recall, with spokeswoman Catherine Howden saying, "the symptoms described would be a brief, perceptible change in steering feel that has little to no effect on the driver's ability to safely steer the vehicle." "When terms like 'notchy,' 'stick,' 'slip' or 'feel' are used, it does not indicate a meaningful increase in steering effort," Howden told The Times via email. What do you think? Is GM in the wrong here? Should there be a recall, or is the issue so limited as to not warrant one? Have your say in Comments. Junkyard Gem: 1982 Buick Riviera Diesel Coupe
Fri, May 12 2023After appending the Riviera name to various cars during the 1950s, Buick finally made the Riviera a model in its own right for the 1963 model year. Seven more generations of Buick's rakish personal luxury coupe followed over the next 36 years, but only one ever had an oil-burning engine available from the factory. Today's Junkyard Gem is one of those cars, a vividly purple '82 Riviera with 105 horses of Oldsmobile diesel power under its hood, found in a Denver-area self-service boneyard recently. Starting in the 1966 model year, the Riviera had been living on the same platform as the Cadillac Eldorado and Oldsmobile Toronado, both of which featured radical front-wheel-drive powertrains that used longitudinal V8s powering the front wheels via sturdy chains. However, despite the common platform, the Riviera alone kept the then-traditional front-engine/rear-drive setup, making it something of a corporate oddball for the next 12 years. Then General Motors decided to downsize the Eldorado/Toronado platform for the 1979 model year, and the Riviera got those cars' front-wheel-drive rig at the same time. Sales of the smaller Rivvy were strong, no doubt due in large part to certain geopolitical events that sent gas prices skyward and caused fuel rationing and gas lines. Back in the late 1970s and early 1980s, diesel fuel was much cheaper than gasoline in the United States. Mercedes-Benz and Peugeot had done reasonably well selling diesel-engined cars here during the 1970s, and so General Motors developed a diesel-burning version of the Oldsmobile 350-cubic-inch (5.7-liter) V8 engine. As was typical of naturally-aspirated automotive diesels of the time (every modern car's diesel engine is turbocharged), horsepower was miserable but torque was strong; the engine in this car was rated at 105 horses and 205 pound-feet. The 5.7 diesel first showed up in the Riviera for the 1981 model year. The base engine was a 4.1-liter version of the Buick V6, while the oil-burning Olds cost an extra $924 (about $3,206 in 2023 dollars). A comfortable and smooth-riding Riviera with the cheap fill-up price and long range of diesel sounded great, even if you had to line up with Freightliners and Peterbilts to get to a pump, but there were problems. Oh, so many problems! Oldsmobile's 350 V8 had been around since 1968 and it had proven to be both reliable and powerful.
Buick could import Envision crossover from China
Fri, Nov 13 2015Reports about the Buick Envision's likely arrival in the US go back even before the midsize crossover's debut in China last year, but the brand still doesn't have a official decision about whether to bring it here. According to The Detroit News, the company is somewhat concerned about a poor consumer reaction to launching a Chinese-made model in this country. Even if Buick officials are slightly apprehensive about the public perception, the concerns might not hold back the Envision in US. An anonymous source also tells The Detroit News that the brand intends to launch the CUV early next year and wants to sell around 40,000 of them annually. However, the UAW is reportedly not happy about the possibility of a Chinese-produced model coming here. The Envision launched at the Chengdu Motor Show as a step between the compact Encore and three-row Enclave. Power comes from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with stop/start and 256 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Buick offers the CUV with a six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. The interior features active noise cancellation and an eight-inch infotainment system. The Envision also seems like a natural fit for Buick in the US due to the obvious hole in its CUV lineup, and the abundant rumors suggest that the brand sees the possibilities for it. The company now needs to decide whether to take a chance here and offer a vehicle from China.
