2019 Buick Envision starts just under $33,000
Mon, Feb 26 2018Buick has announced that prices for its new 2019 Envision will start at $33,985 (including destination), positioning the refreshed compact SUV right between its best-selling Encore entry-level crossover and more upmarket Enclave and taking aim at competitors including the Lincoln MKC and Acura RDX. The Envision will be offered in five trim levels — Envision, Preferred, Essence, Premium and Premium II, which starts at $45,590 — when the crossover goes on sale this spring. Prices exclude tax, title, license, dealer fees and optional equipment. We told you recently about the optional new nine-speed Hydra-Matic 9T50 automatic transmission and 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder on the top two trim levels. The upgraded engine offers 252 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The standard setup remains the 197-hp 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine making 147 lb-ft of torque and mated to a six-speed automatic, offered in front- or all-wheel drive. The crossover gets a new winged Buick emblem on the grille, new headlamps and newly sculpted front and rear facias, plus optional 19-inch wheels. It also gets a Buick-first tire-fill alert that signals when a tire has reached the recommended pressure level. Standard technology features include an in-vehicle air ionizer to eliminate odors, a switch to turn off its fuel-saving engine stop feature, rear-park assist, an 8-inch diagonal infotainment system and 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. By dropping the starting MSRP by nearly $1,000, GM says the Envision is now better positioned against its top-selling Encore (starting MSRP $22,990), for which nearly 60 percent of buyers come from outside the automaker's stable of brands. Texas sues GM, saying it tricked customers into sharing driving data sold to insurers
Wed, Aug 14 2024Texas filed a lawsuit Tuesday against GM over years of alleged abuse of customers' data and trust. New car owners were presented with a "confusing and highly misleading" process that was implied to be for their safety, but "was no more than a deceptively designed sales flow" that surrendered their data for GM to sell. The suit contends that at no point was selling driving data ever even suggested as a possibility, putting GM in violation of the state's consumer protection laws. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is seeking a jury trial and at least $10,000 per offense (every GM car sold in the state since 2015) and a hefty add-on of $250,000 in cases where the victim was over 65. Texas seems to be flying high after a recent $1.4 billion settlement from Meta over other privacy concerns. This may well be a way to solve any pending budgetary issues in the Lone Star State.
Reese Witherspoon is coming to the dashboard of new Buicks
Sat, Oct 10 2020You've probably heard of Oprah Winfrey's Book Club, but did you know that Reese Witherspoon has one, too? She does, and Reese's Book Club has a reported 1.7 million followers on Instagram. The "Legally Blonde" star each month selects a book to read and discuss, with the common element being that each work features a woman at its center. Now, a Reese's Book Club app will be included in Buick infotainment systems, starting with the Encore GX and spreading early next year to other Buicks. The app, which features audiobooks and podcasts, is a product of Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine media company. "As more women are making vehicle-buying decisions, we want to be thinking creatively about tailoring the driving experience to them," said Buick advertising and media operations manager Kate Hrabovsky. There's another aspect to the partnership as well. Buicks are to be featured in Hello Sunshine's upcoming television and movie productions. The Encore GX is the first Buick set to receive some screen time. Who knows, maybe it will be as successful as the Pontiac Trans Am's star turn in "Smokey and the Bandit." Although the Hello Sunshine production in which the Encore GX will appear will likely be a very different movie — at the very least, the Sally Field character would do most of the driving.
