1969 Buick Riviera is latest Hot Wheels Legends finalist

Mon, Aug 1 2022

The Hot Wheels Legends Tour traveled to Southern California, one of the bastions of car culture in the United States, to find the next custom-built car that it will add to its catalog of scale models. The winner of the latest stop is a 1969 Buick Riviera turned into a head-turning lowrider. Owned by Mario and Nora Zamudio of Los Angeles, the big coupe is finished in a color called Pagan Gold and fitted with bright wire wheels. The husband-and-wife team spent four years working nights and weekends to build the Riviera. They removed the exterior trim pieces to achieve a cleaner look, spent a considerable amount of time detailing the engine bay and fitted a hydraulic suspension system. The interior received the custom treatment as well. Pagan Gold accents on the dashboard complement the exterior, there's an aftermarket steering wheel with three bright spokes, and the beige and brown upholstery finishes to the look. Readers familiar with Riviera models from the 1960s will notice that some of the switches aren't original; they're used to control the hydraulic suspension. Power for this Riviera comes from the original 430-cubic-inch (7.0-liter) V8, which was rated at 360 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque in 1969. It spins the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission, and we bet it sounds excellent. One Buggy Mud Muncher Raptor View 13 Photos This eye-catching Riviera will move on to the semifinal round this fall, where it will compete against previous winners for the chance to get scaled down into a Hot Wheels model. The list of past winners is stunningly diverse: it includes a Volvo-powered 1968 Volkswagen Beetle, a kei truck turned into a monster truck, and a 1973 Toyota Celica powered by a General Motors-sourced V8 and nicknamed Tokyo Trans Am. How to hack a Buick Regal with CarKnow

Thu, 08 Aug 2013

If you own an Apple iPhone or Android device, perhaps you've been tempted to jailbreak or root it. This process gives you access to the the software's code, and can be used to make minor or drastic changes to its operating system. CarKnow, a company in Boston, is working applying a similar concept to the automobile.
Translogic recently took a look inside CarKnow to see just how it can tweak the computers inside a car and what sort of things can be done. As our transportation tech sister site explains, CarKnow basically created a digital duplicate of their Buick Regal in the cloud, while harvesting data generated to create custom apps and infiltrate the deepest function of their test car.
And before you freak out about people maliciously taking over your car, CarKnow's founder, Josh Siegel, stresses that it isn't quite so easy as driving up alongside someone. Take a look at the full video below to see just what it's like to jailbreak a car.

GM CEO to meet with U.S. lawmakers over job cuts

Fri, Nov 30 2018

WASHINGTON — General Motors Co Chief Executive Mary Barra plans to visit Capitol Hill next week to discuss the company's plans to halt production at five plants in North America next year and cut up to 15,000 jobs, two congressional aides said on Friday. GM has come under harsh criticism from lawmakers from both major political parties, and from President Donald Trump, since Monday when it announced the biggest restructuring for the U.S. No. 1 carmaker since its bankruptcy a decade ago. Barra is expected to meet with lawmakers from Michigan and Ohio, where GM plans to shutter three plants, as well as senior leaders in Congress. GM did not immediately comment. Barra has been calling lawmakers this week to explain the decision to end production. Trump has threatened to revoke subsidies for GM. The Detroit automaker plans to halt production next year at three assembly plants: the Lordstown small-car factory near Youngstown, Ohio; the Detroit-Hamtramck complex in Detroit; and the Oshawa, Ontario, assembly complex near Toronto. It will also stop building several models now assembled at those plants, including the Chevrolet Cruze, the Chevrolet Volt hybrid, the Cadillac CT6 and the Buick LaCrosse. Additionally, GM plans to shutter the Warren transmission plant outside Detroit and a plant that makes electric motors and drivetrains outside Baltimore, Maryland. The Cruze compact car will be discontinued in the U.S. market in 2019, although GM may continue building it in Mexico for other markets, Barra said. Reporting by David Shepardson. Related Video:

DESCRIPTION
Buick marked a year of finals in 1970. This was the final year Buick would offer the Electra convertible, finned aluminum brake drums, and high compression engines. Only a minor facelift with revised grille & taillight trim along with a concealed radio antenna changed on the 1970 Electra 225 exterior from the previous year. The big news was under the hood, where a new 370-horsepower 455ci V8 replaced the old 430ci V8 in previous models. Now packed with Buick's most powerful engine, the Electra 225 became a dynamite performer on the street and track, boosting 15-second quarter mile track times, making it a very fast car for the era! Such speed was an amazing feat for a full size car with all power options!

We are pleased to offer this amazing 1970 Buick Electra 225 Custom Convertible. Powered by the famed 370hp 455ci V8 with 4bbl carburetor and automatic transmission. This Electra comes very well equipped with Power Brakes, Power Steering, Air Conditioning, Cruise Control, Power Top, Power Windows, Speed Warning buzzer, Dual outside mirrors, remote drivers mirror, Power Seats, AM/FM Stereo, Rear Defroster, Tilt steering wheel, Front & rear rubber Buick mats, fender skirts, headrest seats, seat belts for 6 passengers, remote power truck release, under dash tissue dispenser, 235/75R15 White Wall tires with Wire Hubcaps, full size spare tire, jack, tool, service manuals, 2 sets of keys and much more!

Lovingly restored by its previous celebrity owner to a high standard, it was a participant in the 2001 Buick Nationals and class winner! Only 3 owners from new, it was originally a North Carolina car until its last owner purchased the car in 1992. Copies of both titles come with the car. The last owner, an anchorman for ABC news, performed a wonderful restoration including engine rebuild, new paint, new chrome, new interior, new weather stripping, new top, and much more!! A wonderful driving car, with many, many options and solid underpinnings! One will be hard pressed to find a nicer Electra convertible. We welcome any questions you have about this wonderful car, world-wide international shipping arrangements, or financing options.
