*****Also note that the AutoCheck is incorrect. I am the only owner this vehicle has ever had, despite the report stating otherwise some unknown reason. I have filed a complaint with AutoCheck and am awaiting their response. Also worth noting is the "accident" noted on the report. It was merely a 1 mph bump at a red light. I called the police just as a precaution. The only damage was a few scrapes, and I had the bumper professionally repainted to look just like new again. So please rest assured that this car has never suffered any meaningful accident damage. *****

Up for sale is a ONE OWNER (me) 1998 Buick Century Limited. That’s right, my name and address are the only ones that have ever graced the title of this car. It is finished in beautiful Jasper Green Metallic paint with sumptuous Taupe Leather interior. It has Only 47,791 original miles. You are reading that correctly – this car is a time warp that you do not see very often.

It is hard to believe I know, but this Buick has never been my primary mode of transportation. It has spent its entire life as a reserve vehicle for me and my family occasionally. I travel across the country on business for a living, and the trusty Buick has served as my airport car. I have owned higher caliber vehicles over the years that I simply was not comfortable leaving at the airport in Memphis, Nashville, or Little Rock (depending upon where I was flying out of). So the Buick served me well as a low profile car. I also attribute its ability to blend in anonymously with the fact that I have never received a ticket in it – despite its surprising knack for cruising at 85 comfortably for long periods of time. The Buick has also served as a car for our housekeeper to run errands in over the years as well.

My Buick is in exceptional condition inside and out for its age, and the pictures simply do not do it justice. I special ordered this car from the factory thru my family relationship with the owner of Jim Keras Buick in Memphis, TN with every available option except a sunroof.

I checked off the options sheet when I ordered my Buick with the: Popular Option Package; Premium Option Package; Body Side Stripes; Carpet Savers in front and rear; Electrochromic rearview mirror; Heated Body Color Exterior Mirrors; Cruise Control, Rear Window integrated Antenna; the Premium sound system; Jasper Green Metallic Paint, and Taupe Leather. These option packages entailed many niceties such as dual electronic climate control, dual power seats, cruise control, high-end Concert Sound II stereo system with CD player, a Tape player, and steering wheel controls as well. In addition it has anti-lock brakes, dual airbags, 4 wheel disc brakes, aluminum alloy wheels, automatic headlights and dimming interior courtesy lights.

My Buick has been thoroughly maintained throughout its entire life. Recently I serviced the car with a brand new battery, new starter, new water pump, new front & rear brakes, and the fluids were replaced as well. It runs great, idles superbly smooth, passes inspection, and sips gas. I have both keys, both keyless entry fobs, and even the valet key still.

My Buick has been garaged for all but 2 of its 16 year life span, and it has never seen snow. The car has never been smoked in, I can count on one hand how many times the back seat has had a passenger, and the trunk has never seen anything but a rolling bag.

Why am I selling it? Because my wife inherited her grandmother’s 2003 Lexus ES300 with low miles on it about 2 year ago. Therefore, the Lexus has taken the place of the Buick as our reserve/airport car. I simply have not had the time to fool with selling the Buick despite the occasional consideration to go to CarMax for an offer. Additionally, it’s been difficult to part with the Buick considering how well it has served us and the fact that I have owned it since ordering from the factory.

What’s wrong with it? A few things - mainly due to being kicked out of the third garage spot by the Lexus. There are typical bumps and scratches on the sides and bumpers due to airport parking garages over the years, but it still presents very well do to its extensive years of being under cover.  A tree limb fell during a storm last year and dented the driver door and the hood (as you can see in the pictures). The interior rear view mirror has developed some cloudiness that I can only attribute to the sun. The screen for the automatic climate control does not display anything, but all functions still work correctly (this is very strange to me and I wonder if regular use would “wake” the screen back up). There seems to be a coolant leak, but the origin is unknown. My yard man thinks it’s probably just an old radiator hose or even a worn out radiator cap. The car still runs just fine though.

Thank you for looking at my car. It is truly is an exceptional example of the Buick Century mark, and its new owner will understand immediately just how well it has been cared for. I welcome any questions you may have and sincerely appreciate your consideration in viewing my advertisement.

The 2020 Buick LaCrosse we won't get looks exceptional

Thu, Mar 7 2019

GM is killing off the Buick LaCrosse in the United States after the 2019 model year, but elsewhere it lives on. Buried by all the Geneva news this week, GM quietly took the wraps off a 2020 Buick LaCrosse facelift for China. It only makes sense to keep selling the big Buick in the popular Chinese market (now Buick's largest), but we're a tad jealous of what we can't have stateside. The changes Buick has implemented make the LaCrosse into a far more handsome option. Both the front and rear get massaged here. A new horizontal patterned grille, slimmer headlights with a neat LED design, plus new lower bumper surround all work together to provide a more upscale look. The view out back is an even larger departure from the old and somewhat awkward rear end on the 2019 LaCrosse. Smaller, flowing taillights mesh well with the chrome strip on the trunk lid, then dual exhaust outlets offer a sporty flair to the squat rear end. The Buick badge looks cohesive with the look as a whole now, instead of just chilling out alone on the expansive trunk lid. An updated powertrain package goes along with the new looks, too. GM is snagging its new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder LSY engine it uses in the Cadillac XT4 for duty here. It makes 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and is mated to GM's nine-speed automatic transmission. China will be the only market to see this generation of LaCrosse as GM plans to exclusively produce it in its Shanghai facility. The Detroit-Hamtramck plant that previously made it for all North American markets was among those facilities GM announced would close, bringing with it the LaCrosse and other vehicles. Last-ever Buick Grand National heads to Barrett-Jackson auction

Tue, Dec 28 2021

This 1987 Buick Grand National brought the curtains down on a heap of General Motors history. When this black beauty rolled down the line at 5 p.m. on December 11, 1987, it represented the end of manufacturing at GM's Pontiac Assembly Plant after 60 years building cars. This was the last car to sit on GM's G-Body platform, having supported legendary names like Monte Carlo, Cutlass Supreme, and Regal. And this was the last-ever Buick Grand National, a big coupe that in just five years on the market had helped make the Buick Regal lineup an object of sincere lust among enthusiasts. Powered by a 3.8-liter turbocharged and intercooled 3.8-liter V6, the engine made 245 horsepower and 355 pound-feet of torque. The only car above it in the lineup was the exceptionally rare GNX, which made 276 hp and 360 lb-ft. The Buick Grand National is headed to the Barrett-Jackson auction block in Scottsdale next month.    Louisiana resident Bob Colvin bought this car from the factory. The Drive spoke to Colvin, who explained that then-GM President Roger Smith told him he could have the penultimate Grand National, but Buick planned to put the last car on display. When Colvin arrived at the plant, though, Colvin said the plant manager told him, "I'm running this plant and you've gone through the effort to be here. It will be a real celebration," and got him the last car made. As proof, a GM film crew followed the car down the line, plant workers and two GM execs signed various parts of the engine, including current GM President Mark Reuss. The car comes with all of the autographs and signage the autoworkers created to go with the car, as well as the original window sticker. Colvin and his wife built an addition onto their house to display the car. Save for a trip to the Buick Centennial Celebration in 2003, the Buick has lived in its special place all its life and has just 33 miles on the odometer. Behind the new-car plastic that shrouds the interior, the only flaw appears to be a tiny crack in the steering wheel center cap where a bolt might have been overtorqued. The car is being offered with no reserve, the pre-sale estimate landing right around the $500,000 mark. That would about double recent auction sales for low-mileage GNX's this year, but there's every reason to believe this car's one-of-one place in history could get auction paddles waving.

China-market Buick Electra E5 meets the world

Mon, Nov 28 2022

We now know the Buick Envista crossover is on the way to the U.S. market after its recent debut in China. The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has previewed another Buick crossover that will eventually get here, the release spotted by Car News China. The battery-electric Electra E5 was outed as part of the ministry process of opening up a public comment for new market entries. This is the Buick-branded Ultium-based EV that inaugurates a new electric era for GM brands over there, the E5 landing in the middle of the consecutive E1 to E9 trademarks Buick reserved a few years ago. The five-seat crossover's dimensions have been given as 192.6 inches long, 75 inches wide, and 66.2 inches tall, on a wheelbase 116.3 inches long. That size puts it on the same wheelbase as the coming 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV, with a length about two inches longer. The base wheels measure 18 inches, the options list offers 20-inch units. The battery pack is sourced from a joint venture between CATL and SAIC, the latter being GM's joint venture partner in China. The automaker said it's "tailored for China" but we don't know what that means, nor do we know the capacity. Thanks to the MIIT information, we do know the E5 weighs 5,666 pounds and in this initial form will be powered by one 241-horsepower motor that can achieve a top speed to 112 miles per hour.  Spy photographers caught an Electra SUV clad in camo doing the rounds in Michigan earlier this month with all the same design cues seen on the Chinese model — narrow headlights and taillights, three-piece high brake light on the hatch spoiler, and the same wheels. Although we could be wrong, we'd bet a fair bit of money our Electra will come with more than 241 horsepower, though. Even our compact Buick Envision gets 228 hp, and it weighs almost 2,000 pounds less than the China-market Electra E5.   The same over there as here, the E5 represents Buick's first proper move toward the all-electric lineup scheduled to be completed by 2030. In China, it will mean the sunset of current EV offerings like the Buick Velite 6 MAV wagon-like vehicle, and the Chevy-Bolt-based Velite 7. Car News China said neither sell well, calling the Velite 6 "a bit of an oddball," and the 7 a little small for the Chinese market. Younger, tech-happy buyers will be lured with the first strokes of SAIC's Smart Cockpit and GM's Super Cruise. Deliveries should commence at the beginning of next year in China, the E5's arrival in the U.S.
