First off, don’t bid if you can’t pay.  Have your finances in order.  I’m not a dealer or a bank.  Bidders with less than 10 feedback, email me first.

This is one of my father’s cars and he’s got his eyes on another so this one’s got to go.

For Sale a 1956 Buick Century Riviera.  It’s a 4 door hard top Series 60.

VIN 6C3005072   6=60 Series  C=1956  3=Linden NJ Plant  005072 is the sequence number which puts manufacture in the fall of 1955.

Trim 633=Black Nylon and Black and Red Cordaveen interior

Paint BMB=Castle Grey/Seminole Red/Castle Grey

ACC – F S  Safety Group and 6 way power seat adjuster

Style 56-4639 = Century Riviera Sedan Hardtop

Model 56-63 = Century Series 4 door Riviera Hardtop 60 Series.

The Buick Century 60 Series was considered the “Bankers Hot Rod”.  It has the original 322 “Nail Head” V8 Road Master engine (255hp) along with the “Dyna Flow” automatic transmission and factory dual exhaust through the rear bumper.  It also has power steering, power brakes, power windows, power seats, wide white’s, full wheel covers, Sonomatic push button radio and the factory deluxe lighting package including the truck, under hood and glove box.

We’ve owned this car for about 6 years and have driven it everywhere.  Parades, shows, cruises, poker runs…you name it.  It’s solid, reliable and a consistent trophy winner on a local level.  Fly in…drive it home.  72700 miles which I believe to be original.

A couple of important points…we bought this car because of the options and originality and the rarity.  After searching Buick web sites and blogs, talking to other Buick owners in the know, we’ve found that this car, with these options, color combination and early production make on one of a handful.  I haven’t seen another one like it.

The car has new wheel cylinders, drums, stainless brake lines.  We rebuilt/replaced front end steering assembly along with power steering hoses and seals.  New muffler and tail pipes.  Upgraded original radio to AM/FM Bands.  New torque converter and a complete transmission rebuild.  We put an Edlebrock carb in along with a Pertronix ignition upgrade.  We have the original carb that goes with the car along with a plethora of additional OEM and NOS parts that also go.  The car runs, shifts and operates without issue.  Doesn’t burn or use any oil. Never overheats.  Frame and body are solid.  The car is always garaged.

A couple of items that will need to be addressed, but are not deal breakers or hamper the car operationally….Speedometer doesn’t work, but the odometer does.  The lower left rocker panel has some minor paint bubbling as well as around the rear window some slight surface rust exists near the stainless molding.  No holes and no water leaking in. Also the clock and lighter worked, but I think I blew a fuse.

Look at the pictures…email me any questions you have.  This is a 58 year old car and there are NO warranties expressed or implied.  Shipping is your dime, but I’ll assist you and your transport any way I can.

$1000 due within 24 hours with the balance due in cash or cashier’s check within 5 days of auction close.  The car is for sale locally so I reserve the right to pull the auction early.

Junkyard Gem: 1962 Buick LeSabre 2-Door Sport Coupe

Sat, Jan 29 2022

American car shoppers looking for a full-sized hardtop coupe in 1962 couldn't go wrong with the offerings from The General. Chevrolet would sell you a snazzy new Bel Air sport coupe for just $2,561 (about $23,800 today), but those Joneses next door wouldn't have felt properly shamed if you put a new proletariat-grade Chevy in your driveway. No, to really stand tall during the era of Alfred Sloan's Ladder of Success, you had to go higher up on the GM food chain. For the B-platform full-sized cars of 1962, that meant the Pontiac Catalina/Bonneville beat the Chevy, the Oldsmobile 88 was the next step up the ladder, and at the very top was the Buick: the hot-rod Invicta and its swanky LeSabre sibling. To go beyond that, you had to move up to a C-platform Buick Electra or Cadillac. Today's Junkyard Gem is a once-luxurious '62 LeSabre, now much-faded in a northeastern Colorado boneyard. The reason GM shoppers got so bent out of shape about the "Chevymobile" episodes of the late 1970s, in which some GM cars received engines made by "lesser" GM divisions, was that each division had its own family of V8 engines during the 1950s and 1960s and they weren't supposed to be mingled. The '62 LeSabre got a 401-cubic-inch (6.5-liter) Nailhead engine (so called because the valves were unusually small), rated at 265, 280, or 325 (depending on what kind of compression ratio and carburetion you wanted). That's not crazy horses for a big-displacement, two-ton luxury coupe of its era, but the small valves allowed for combustion chambers optimized for one thing: low-rpm torque. This 401 has the two-barrel carburetor, so it made either 412 or 425 pound-feet of torque. That's just a bit less than the mighty Cadillac's engine that year, and definitely sufficient to get this car moving very quickly. You had to pay a fat premium on the Chevrolet, Pontiac, and Oldsmobile B-bodies to get an automatic transmission (a three-speed column-shift manual was base equipment in those cars), but a Turbine-Drive (formerly known as the Dyna-Flow) automatic was standard issue on the 1962 LeSabre. This was an interesting transmission design that traced its origins back to the 1942 M18 Hellcat Tank Destroyer and used torque-converter multiplication to provide a CVT-like experience with no perceptible shifts (the driver could select a separate low gearset manually, so the shifter looks just like the one on the true two-speed Powerglide transmission).

Buick dusting off Grand National, GNX and T-Type nameplates

Mon, 26 Nov 2012

Inside Line reports Buick is planning to bring back some of the more storied names from the company's past, including the Grand National, GNX and the T-Type. Those cars rose to prominence in the 1970s and '80s to become performance legends of their day.
The new models will reportedly make use of the rear-wheel drive platform that currently underpins the Cadillac ATS and all would arrive as sedans - according to an unnamed source familiar with the initiative. Odds are the T-Type and the Grand National would share a driveline, with honest money being on a new twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 as the engine of choice. Word has it the mill will be good for anywhere from 350 to 400 horsepower.
That leaves only the GNX. Inside Line seems to think that machine could get down the road with some help from the all-new GM LT1 small-block V8. The engineers behind the ATS platform have already told us the engine bay is large enough for to accommodate the big eight pot, and since GM is most certainly working on an ATS-V, a slightly less powerful, less luxurious Buick iteration makes some kind of sense. We can't wait to see these things in the light of day.

Biden's tariffs likely won't impact Americans already driving Chinese-built cars

Thu, May 16 2024

A 2024 Buick Envision Sport TouringGM-DESIGN Chinese car brands are missing from the US market, but Chinese-made cars are still sold in the US.  Americans bought more than 104,000 Chinese-made cars in 2023 and nearly 28,000 in Q1 2024. Buick, Lincoln, Polestar, and Volvo all sell cars in the US that are made in China.  Of the more than 15 million cars sold in the US last year, none wore the badge of a Chinese car brand. Chinese EV heavy hitters like BYD and SAIC are conspicuously missing from US showrooms. With the government's existing 27.5% tariffs on Chinese-made cars and Tuesday's new 100% tariffs on Chinese-made EVs imported to the US, the situation isn't likely to change anytime soon. What some people might not realize, however, is that tens of thousands of cars manufactured in China are sold in the US every year. Volvo's S60L sedan was one of the first Chinese-made cars to be sold in the US starting in 2016, followed by Buick's Envision SUV and Cadillac's CT6 Hybrid. According to Automotive News data, US consumers purchased more than 104,000 Chinese-made vehicles in 2023, up 45% from 2022. Americans bought another 28,000 Chinese-made cars during the first quarter of 2024. Currently, Buick, Lincoln, Polestar, and Volvo sell Chinese-made vehicles in the US. Of those, the only Chinese-made EVs come from Polestar, a brand co-owned by Volvo and its parent company, Geely Automotive. The EV brand imported just 2,217 cars in the first three months of 2024. It is unclear how the new tariffs will affect Polestar's future production plans. The company eventually plans to move some of its car production to South Carolina in 2024. In a statement to Business Insider, a Polestar spokesperson said the company is evaluating the Biden Administration's announcement. Here's a closer look at the Chinese-made cars on sale in the US. Buick Envision A 2024 Buick Envision AvenirGM When it launched in 2016, the Buick Envision compact SUV was one of the first Chinese-made vehicles sold in the US. The second generation Envision, which arrived in 2021, continues to be made in China at one of the plants GM operates in a joint venture with SAIC. The Envision was Buick's second-best-selling model in 2023, with more than 44,000 vehicles sold. Last year, Buick sold 167,000 vehicles across its entire lineup in the US, an impressive 61% increase over the previous year. However, this number pales in comparison to Buick's sales in China, which totaled 517,000 units last year.
