1955 Buick Century Summary;

I am selling the last of three vehicles from my collection to free up space in my garage. I had bought this 1955 Buick Century Riviera Hardtop several years ago from the widow of the former owner.
The car had been purchased in 1987 from the original owner by the last owner and he was a garage owner that only added approximately 1,500 miles to it in the time that he owned it.
He kept the car garaged during his ownership.

The car has the original unmolested interior in it. As can be see, the drivers seat panel has some seam separations. In general the seats look ok, however they are far from perfect and have edge marks and slight damage.
The original carpet remains in the car and the drivers side has the most wear.
The headliner is intact and does not appear to be damaged. The chrome bows are also all intact.
The door panels also have some wear from the years and are illustrated in the photo's and the drivers door arm rest has some rips.
When I had purchased the car, I changed the master cylinder, wheel cylinders, shoes and rubber brake hoses as well as had the drums turned.
The fuel pump has been rebuilt with the modern materials for the new gasoline.
A carburetor kit was also installed in the carburetor.
The points were converted to the Pertronix system.
The radio, fuel gage, oil pressure gage and ammeter all function properly while the temperature gage does not.
The wipers are vacuum style wipers and the the wipers will lift but not return when the switch is turned. I would expect that the wiper motor needs to be rebuilt.
The car is an automatic and the transmission functions smoothly and well, however, the front seal is leaking and there is a small leak when the car is parked.
The oil pressure runs near the high end of normal range - I use 15W - 40 Rotella.
The car was painted at some point in it's life, however the paint is faded and has scratches and dings.
The chrome is presentable, but it is showing its age as well.
Additionally, on the roof are two spots where there was some light denting due to someone storing something on the roof.
The exhaust system is not rusty, but as you may hear in the videos, there is a seam at the end of the muffler that has a slight opening and is leaking.
The car has power steering and it works perfectly.
The car is not a rusty vehicle as can be seen in the photos.
The engine runs well as can be seen on the two videos that I have posted on Youtube. I can only put partial links in e-bay since there is some restriction. Please cut and paste the following partial links to the videos to see the car. You will need to add the "www," to the front of the string when you paste it into your browser.

I am selling this car as I have two of my others as I have run out of room and I am selling some of my collection.

I have tried to capture the condition in the photographs of the vehicle. If you have specific questions, please contact me through e-bay, if provided with a contact number, I will call you.

While I love the car and think that it looks ok, handles and runs great, I welcome and encourage you to get an inspection performed. I want you to be as happy with the car as I have been and I think that the best judge of the car meeting your expectations will be you. The car can be inspected by appointment, please send me the contact information through e-bay.

If you are the winning bidder, you will be required to pay the $500 deposit through Paypal within 48 hours. As I am selling the car to free up space in my garages, the car must be removed from the premises within 10 business days of the funds clearing at my bank unless other arrangements are made in advance.

The car is 59 years old and while I like the car, I am not providing any warranty and the car is being sold AS IS. It is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction at any time.

Thank you for looking and thank you for bidding. Good luck!

I have set-up several videos of the car starting and driving;

On the youtube links, you must cut and paste them into your browser and add the www. to the front of the string. I am sorry, but don't know how else to get the links visible in ebay.

Thank you for looking and I hope that this helps in your assessment!

MotorWeek remembers the nearly forgotten Buick Reatta

Thu, Feb 18 2016

The Reatta was Buick's failed experiment to take on European competitors with its own two-seat luxury coupe and convertible. The model only lasted a few years, and US customers didn't see another droptop from the brand until the Cascada. The latest MotorWeek Retro Review takes a look back at the short-lived roadster and remembers it quite fondly. Host John Davis calls the 1990 Reatta droptop "one of the best looking convertibles ever." His sentiment seems a little hyperbolic, but the roadster is definitely an attractive machine by the standards of the time. The smooth front end and pop-up headlights are reminiscent of Japanese sports cars of era, and the profile with the top down is elegant. There are weaknesses, though. The manual roof mechanism appears cumbersome to operate, and the crude digital instruments, which simulate physical dials, make the cabin look too dated. Other than a complaint about over-boosted power steering, MotorWeek enjoys how the Reatta drives, too. Buick's roadster is largely forgotten today, but such glowing praise suggests it deserves to be better remembered. Check out this Retro Review to look back on this interesting experiment from the early '90s. Related Video:

Buick resurrects the Electra nameplate on a science fiction-like electric concept

Tue, Sep 29 2020

Buick plans to broaden its range of electric cars in the coming years, and it still owns the rights to the heritage-laced Electra nameplate, so it was only a matter of time before the past and the future met head-on. Buick resurrected the name it used between the 1959 and 1990 model years on a futuristic, battery-powered concept car. Created by a Shanghai-based design studio, the Electra concept takes the form of either a tall sedan or a low crossover, depending on your perspective. While it's not officially a preview of an upcoming production model, it ushers in a design language named Potential Energy that will permeate most of the electric cars the firm will release during the 2020s. It's inspired by a space capsule, according to Buick, so its greenhouse was drawn to resemble a glass pod. Its surfaces are sculpted but not chiseled, and its front fascia wears LED lights with a three-dimensional effect. Fear not: Stylists didn't forget the seemingly obligatory back-lit emblem. Butterfly doors provide access to the cabin, where the space capsule theme continues. Buick packed the Electra with cutting-edge technology features, but it concealed them rather well to avoid a tech overload. The driver faces a rectangular steering wheel that retracts when it's not needed, behind which is a wide, curved screen that replaces all of the buttons, knobs, and switches normally found in a car's interior. An electric motor is far more compact than a comparable four- or six-cylinder engine, so designers were able to carve out a generously sized interior. Engineers embedded technology into the Electra from the project's earliest stage. It's equipped with software named eConnect that supports over-the-air updates, provides on-demand information about a specific trip, and gives details about the various electronic driving aids. An artificial intelligence-powered assistant lets users perform various tasks, such as setting the air conditioning or controlling home devices, with voice commands. Buick noted the Electra offers about 410 miles of driving range thanks in part to the Ultium battery technology developed by General Motors to power a wide selection of electric models, including the Cadillac Lyriq, the GMC Hummer, and a pair of Honda-badged models scheduled to go on sale for the 2024 model year.

Safety group pans GM’s new Marketplace in-dash shopping

Wed, Dec 6 2017

When it comes to our cars, is the Internet of Things a godsend? Or a hidden menace that will create more problems than it will solve? On the same day General Motors announced it will equip newer-model cars with its in-dash Marketplace e-commerce app, a prominent safety group was shooting it down. National Safety Council President Deborah Hersman tells Bloomberg the technology will only contribute to distracted driving and hurt efforts to stem the tide of rising auto fatalities, which grew 5.6 percent to more than 37,000 in the U.S. in 2016. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says distracted driving was responsible for 3,477 fatalities and 391,000 injuries in 2015, the most recent year for which it has data. "There's nothing about this that's safe," Hersman told Bloomberg. "If this is why they want WiFi in the car, we're going to see fatality numbers go up even higher than they are now." Marketplace, developed with IBM, will allow drivers — or more often, one hopes, their passengers — to order coffee or food, find gas stations and reserve hotel rooms from their dashboard screens. The technology is set to be uploaded automatically to nearly 1.9 million GM vehicles model-year 2017 and later that are equipped with WiFi hotspots and compatible systems. By the end of 2018, about 4 million Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles will be equipped with Marketplace. The app will debut with a limited number of participating retailers, including TGI Fridays, Shell, Exxon Mobil and Starbucks, with more likely to join later. Online retail giant Amazon is also partnering with automakers such as Ford to bring e-commerce capabilities inside the car through its Alexa personal assistant. While convenience is nice, one other thing is becoming clear as the IoT wedges its way into our cars: It's taking aim at some decidedly first-world problems.Related Video: Image Credit: GM Buick Cadillac Chevrolet GM GMC Technology Infotainment in-car entertainment marketplace e-commerce
