For sale is a red and gray 1955 Buick Century sedan with 95,893 miles. This model featured a 322 cubic inch V8 "nailhead" motor and a Dynaflow 2-speed automatic transmission. This model was designed to be performance-oriented, mating the largest displacement Buick motor of the time with the relatively lightweight "Special" chassis. The 236 horsepower Century had a 0-60 time of 9.8 seconds and could do a quarter mile in about 17 seconds. The California Highway Patrol placed a large order of special edition Buick Centuries to use as law enforcement vehicles in 1955. Actor Broderick Crawford was shown driving a 2-door Century sedan during the first season of his famous TV series "Highway Patrol." I don't want to imply that this is the exact model he drove, but it is representative of the body style and design elements that, for many, defined the pinnacle of American car design and styling.

I bought the vehicle in 1990 with 86,151 miles and the intent to fully restore it to original condition. To that end I had the original engine rebuilt in 1992 and the Dynaflow transmission rebuilt in 1993. The previous owner had the interior reupholstered in 1989. I have kept the vehicle garaged since buying it, but it has not been driven in the last 10 years. The engine turns over and runs from an external fuel can, but the fuel delivery system itself is gummed up and needs to be replaced. The electrical system--radio, lights, etc--is not working and the brakes most likely need some attention. The transmission shifts between park, neutral, drive and reverse, but has not been used at road-speed for 10 years.

As mentioned above, the car needs electrical, and fuel work. The tires hold air, but are pretty dry rotted. The brakes haven't been used in over 10 years, but they aren't seized--the car will roll.

I don't have a title for this car, but have the original registration paperwork and receipts for the work that I have had done to it. The car will have to be transported from my location by flatbed or tow-truck.

This car is an excellent candidate for continuing a complete cosmetic restoration, but could also be made road-worthy with relatively little additional work--brakes, fuel system and lights.

Feel free to message me with any additional questions.

Buick's Velite 5 is a rebadged Chevy Volt for China

Mon, Mar 27 2017

There's nary a mention of the famous Chevy Bowtie badge in Buick's press release for its new Velite 5. No shoutouts to the extended-range Volt, with which the Chinese-market Velite clearly borrows its hybrid gasoline/electric technology. But that's okay; to borrow an adage, if it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck. And, as you can see from the image above, the Buick Velite 5 is a duck Volt with a Tri-Shield badge. The Velite 5's 1.5-liter engine and lithium ion battery pack provide up to 466 miles of range, with the first 62 miles or so coming on battery power alone. That's more range than Chevy quotes for the Volt, so we're not sure what methodology Buick is using to calculate mileage. Still, even if it's more like the Volt's estimated range of 53 real-world miles, it would be enough for many Chinese drivers to avoid the gas station altogether. Buick showed off a Velite Concept late last year that doesn't appear to share much at all with this new Volt-based production model. But since the brand is promising more plug-ins and EVs in the coming years, we wouldn't be surprised to see further models carrying the Velite moniker, perhaps one based on the all-electric Chevy Bolt EV. 2015 Buick Verano gets styling tweak, loses 6-speed manual

Fri, 06 Jun 2014

Well, all good things must come to an end. For 2015, the Buick Verano's experiment with a manual transmission will cease, as the American manufacturer has announced it will discontinue the 6MT in the turbocharged version of its compact sedan. According to Buick, the take rate on the Verano Turbo 6MT was (unsurprisingly) low, leading to its discontinuation.
That's not the only bit of news for the Verano, though. After a few years on the market, Buick has seen fit to refresh the popular sedan. The visual changes aren't huge, really, with subtle tweaks to the headlights and taillights. We'd bargain that the average passer-by wouldn't notice a difference between the two.
The main aesthetic change is a new appearance package, available on the mid-range Convenience and Leather option groups. Unimaginatively called just that - Appearance Package - it offers up a new paint color, Desert Dusk Metallic, as well as a grille treatment and a rear spoiler. The new package is, however, limited to naturally aspirated models.

Top-of-the-line 2018 Buick Regal TourX costs $43,795

Tue, Nov 28 2017

Buick has unveiled an online configurator for the 2018 Regal TourX wagon, and it shows that picking the full suite of premium options puts the sport wagon at $43,795. That prices it under its Regal GS Sportback sibling and competitors like the Volvo V60 Cross Country and Audi A4 Allroad. The luxury hatchback starts at $29,995 and is available in three trim options: TourX 1SV, Preferred ($33,575) and Essence ($35,945). All are powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that puts out 250 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque and drives an eight-speed automatic transmission. Intelligent all-wheel-drive with active twin-clutch, start-stop technology and 18-inch painted aluminum wheels are also standard. There are eight exterior color options, including Sport Red and Summit White for no extra charge, and two options for the interior at no extra charge. Driver Confidence package options come with things like LED headlamps, 4-way lumbar seat adjuster and rear park assist for $1,725, and various driver-assist technologies including adaptive cruise control and forward collision alert for an additional $1,190. A panoramic moonroof will set you back $1,200. At 73.5 cubic feet with the second-row seats folded down, Buick says the TourX boasts more overall cargo space than the Subaru Outback, Volvo V60 Cross Country, Audi A4 Allroad and BMW 3-series Sport Wagon. The rear hatch area offers 32.7 cubic feet with the seats up.Related Video:
