Bugatti opens two new US showrooms with no new cars to sell

Tue, Nov 10 2015

Bugatti has opened two new dealerships in the United States. With dealers opening and closing all over the States each and every day, what makes these interesting? Well, the marque sold the last of its Veyron models and has yet to introduce the new Chiron that's expected to replace it. What that means, in short, is that Bugatti and these dealerships are in a holding pattern. But what a glamorous holding pattern it is. The dealerships in question are Bugatti Manhattan and Bugatti Miami. They both form part of larger multi-brand dealerships: Manhattan Motorcars and Braman Motors, respectively. And they are the first to feature the new showroom design penned in Molsheim for Bugatti dealers around the world. The dedicated showrooms promise to offer customers the chance to see a car up close, steep themselves in the lore and history of the brand, and customize their own like they would at the factory in Alsace. Following the New York and Florida dealers, the design is already set to proliferate to new showrooms in Munich, Monaco, and Tokyo in the coming months. The marque currently has 27 dealers in 13 countries around the world. In the case of Manhattan Motorcars, the Bugatti showroom forms just one part of its new location at the corner of 51st Street and 11th Avenue in the neighborhood known as Hell's Kitchen. The area also features dedicated showrooms for Bentley, Lamborghini, and Porsche – other high-end auto brands which, like Bugatti, fall under the Volkswagen Group umbrella. The dealer, which is now celebrating its 20th anniversary, also handles Rolls-Royce, Koenigsegg, and Lotus. The new five-story complex offers 150,000 square feet of showroom space, of which the Bugatti section takes up less than 1,000. Little wonder, since it has at most one model to display – and currently has none. Bugatti Chiron Sport Edition Noire Sportive marks the production halfway point

Thu, Feb 20 2020

For Bugatti, possibly only for Bugatti, a 1,479-horsepower coupe with a quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 is just the starting point. Bugatti unveiled the Chiron in 2016 with the intent of building 500 examples, and four years later, 250 units and numerous extraordinary limited-editions have been crafted. To mark the occasion, Bugatti will show No. 250, a Chiron Sport Edition Noire Sportive, at the 2020 Geneva International Auto Show, where it all began. Near the end of 2019, Bugatti announced two new blacked-out Chirons, one called the Chiron Noire Elegance and the other called the Chiron Noire Sportive. The Elegance model exhibits a reflective gloss, while the Sportive has a muted matte exterior. Backing up the Noire designation, the Sportive model goes completely black, with nearly nothing left to show off any sort of metallic sparkle. The Elegance, however, looks a bit more dressed up with aluminum and silver accents. Both feature Noire script graphics, including on the underside of the rear wing. The Noire models are limited to 20 examples total, and No. 250 will surely be one of the most interesting of the bunch. The Noire Elegance and Sportive follow in the footsteps of Bugatti's (and the world's) most expensive release, the Bugatti La Voiture Noire. A coachbuilt homage to the Bugatti 57 SC Atlantic, the La Voiture Noire reportedly cost more than $18 million, with fees and taxes factored in. It was limited to only one example, and it was only one of numerous special launches that spawned from the Chiron. In addition to the base Chiron, Bugatti has also released the lighter and sharper Chiron Sport, on which the car seen here is based. Then there was the Chiron-based Divo "for the bends," and then came the Chiron Super Sports 300+ to honor the car that broke the 300-mph barrier. Other special editions included the 110 ans Bugatti Chiron to honor the company's history and the Bugatti Centodieci that honors the Bugatti EB110 supercar. So much honor. For only having one car in its lineup, Bugatti sure has made a lot of different vehicles, and we recently found out it could have been more. In an Autoblog exclusive, we learned Bugatti also planned two never-before-seen coupes that would have been marketed alongside the Chiron. Unfortunately, they never made it through to see production. With 250 produced, only 250 remain, and their availability is getting increasingly more scarce.

Bugatti to build composite, carbon fiber, and aluminum versions of Baby II

Wed, Sep 18 2019

At the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, Bugatti announced the revival of one of the most unique cars in the company's storied history: the Baby. At the time of the announcement, the project was still in its infant stages, and the only available example was a 3D-printed model. Still, that didn't stop buyers from reserving all 500 examples of the Baby II within three weeks. Months later at its 110th anniversary celebration in Molsheim, France, Bugatti showed the first functioning prototype, which special VIPs were allowed to test drive. Dubbed "XP1", this prototype is the result of a collaboration between Bugatti and The Little Car Company. Bugatti wanted to make a modern and more accessible version of the Baby, which itself is modeled after a different legend, the 1924 Type 35 Lyon Grand Prix car. Although the original Baby was half scale, Bugatti set out to build a three-quarter-size model that could fit not only kids but certain adults, as well.  In building the Baby II, Bugatti tried to replicate as much as it possibly could to bring the Type 35's essence back to life. Some of the coolest features include a hollow front axle, eight-spoke wheels (which now have Michelin tires), the four-spoke steering wheel, a turned aluminum dashboard with a clock "used for measuring race performance," and a digital recreation of the fuel pressure gauge. Although French Racing Blue was used for the prototype, Bugatti says the Baby II can be painted in modern colors from the Chiron range or from vintage colors that are tied to specific racers or events from the company's history. The Baby II, which is rear-wheel drive and has a limited-slip differential, can be ordered with either a 1.4-kWh lithium-ion battery pack or a 2.8-kWh pack, which is expected to have a range close to 20 miles. Those packs will feed an electric powertrain that can be set to 1-kW Child Mode that can reach about 12 mph or or 4-kW Adult Mode, which can reach up to 28 mph.  Possibly the most interesting news at the launch is detailing about three different available versions of the Baby II. The base Baby II will be crafted with a composite body, the Baby II Vitesse will have a carbon fiber body, and the Baby II Pur Sang will wear a hand-built aluminum body.
