Police smash sinking BMW window with rock to save woman trapped inside

Two quick-thinking police officers in New Zealand saved a woman's life after her BMW somehow ended up in the the ocean on Tuesday afternoon. Witnesses told Stuff.co.nz the woman drove off of a rock wall surrounding a parking lot at Waitemata Harbour in Auckland, New Zealand, and into the ocean. Her BMW immediately began filling with sea water. Bystanders called police and made their own attempts to save the woman. Officers Paul Watts and Simon Russell also tried to open her car doors and smash the windows with a baton. Their failed efforts wasted precious time. The woman soon had to crawl toward the back window, the last part of her car not completely submerged in water. Officer Watts smashed the window with a rock and they were finally able to pull her to safety. Watts told The New Zealand Herald the woman was moments away from drowning. Seconds after extracting her the car sank completely into the ocean. "It was pretty close, probably 30 or 40 seconds after we managed to get the female out of the car, the car was already slipping further into the water," Watts told the Herald. Police are still investigating what caused the accident. The woman was in shock and suffered cuts and bruises. She is in stable condition at a local hospital. M-thusiast pops the question at BMW Welt

We've seen all manner of marriage proposals over the years, but our favorites, of course, revolve around cars. One guy proposed to his girlfriend at a traffic stop, another during an autocross event, while yet another got dozens of Mazda MX-5 owners together to spell "Marry Me?" in Miatas. This latest proposal, however, put the M in Marriage as only a BMW enthusiast could.
While visiting BMW Welt in Munich, Bachir from Lebanon rolled out in a new blue M3 and got down on one knee in front of the gathered crowds to pop the question to Layal, his girlfriend of one year.
We'll let you watch the clip for yourself to see how it went, but suffice it to say that she was delighted. The couple plan to drive to the church in a procession of M cars for what promises to be a high-octane ceremony in their home country.

BMW 3 Series GT gets nip and tuck

We brought you spy photos of the refreshed BMW 3 Series sedan, and now the versatile, hunchbacked Gran Turismo has been caught on camera. As far as refreshed Bimmers go, the treatment for the 3GT is pretty typical. That means a new front bumper and headlights, which we doubt have been changed all that much from the freshened four-door. Changes in back differ thanks to the GT's unique rear end, but the new features – new LED designs in the taillights – will be there. It also looks like BMW has tweaked the rear bumper. Like the sedan, the 3GT will get a few interior tweaks and an iDrive update. Basically, everything we showed you back in May when the updated sedan debuted should find its way onto the 3GT. What we don't know – and what our spies can't tell us – is whether BMW will add GT versions of the 3er's newest models, the 340i and 330e plug-in. We'd expect the 340i to replace the range-topping 335i Gran Turismo, just like it has on the sedan – although a hunchbacked, plug-in hybrid hatchback might just be a bit too niche, even for a brand like BMW.
