For sale is a very rare 2002 BMW Dinan S3 Supercharged X5 in black sapphire metallic and black leather interior. I'm the second owner who originally purchased the truck with ~3,000 miles on it and added the S3 package soon after. All of the Dinan work was completed by BMW of Ann Arbor (Serial # is S30314) with a cost of ~$23k.

The 4.6is model is a limited production x5, it had bigger breaks, more sporty suspension, a body lip kit and fender flares and of course a bigger motor at 340 hp and 350 trq.
The 4.6is Dinan S3 package puts out 451 hp and 440 trq! 0-60 times in the 5 second range and 1/4 in the 14 second range.
The dealer installed the full Dinan Stage 3 kit which includes the supercharger setup, engine computer, transmission computer, throttle body, exhaust, strut bar and suspension pieces, even Dinan floor mats.

The exterior is in good condition and the interior is also great condition with the leather in good condition, no major marks, cuts or other flaws.
The brake rotors and ceramic brake pads are new with ~200 miles. The rear suspension bushings have also recently been replaced as this is a common X5 weak point in the suspension.

It is equipped with a Valentine 1 radar detector, DICE ipod connection and Blinder M45 laser jammer as seen on blinder.net/blinder_m45.htm
A tow package and a set of four snow tires with wheels are also included.

It has been meticulously maintained and taken care of but as expected with a 12 year old car, there are some minor flaws that include some stone chips, a few minor scratches, the passenger door had a dent that was professionally repaired and the front bumper has been touched up. The interior has some pixels that are not working on the audio portion but all pixels are working on the dashboard.

BMW celebrates its awesome '80s M535i

Wed, Jan 7 2015

BMW recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of the M5 with a very limited, special edition of the super sedan. And even before the original version was transporting German executives at ludicrous speeds down the Autobahn, the folks in the M department tried their hand at improving the 5 Series with the M535i. Only offered in 1980 and 1981, the company made just 1,650 of these top-spec models, but they sowed the seeds for the future. In this video looking back at the M535i, you really see the automaker from a completely different era. As an outgrowth of the company's touring car racing efforts, the special model packs a 3.5-liter inline-six rated at 218 horsepower, a powertrain capable of accelerating the M535i to 62 miles per hour in 7.5 seconds via a dogleg five-speed gearbox. This take on the 5 Series is also a visual treat because it mixes the standard version's skinny A-pillar and thick C-pillar styling with some era-specific upgrades. The corduroy-covered Recaro seats and groovy multicolor stripes down the side, on the air dam and at the rear are especially fun touches. While the video's announcer is a bit dull, there's nothing boring about this rare, vintage BMW. Take a trip back in time with this clip, it's a nice bookend to the Petrolicious E28 5 Series family video we showed you yesterday. More details emerge on hotter BMW i8S coming next year

Thu, Nov 27 2014

The BMW i8 recently won the Autoblog Technology of the Year award, and it's going to get even better. In October, Automobile magazine reported that BMW's i brand is working on an i8S that would be stiffer and more powerful, and celebrate the marque's centenary in 2016. At the time, one of two power unit combinations was suggested, either one of them good for more than 500 horsepower. Car magazine has added more info on the coupe said to be called Project M100, saying that in addition to being a birthday gift for BMW, it will also be a going-away statement to current chairman Norbert Reithofer, who is expected to retire in 2016 or 2017. It will also be so thoroughly reworked that there will be plenty of daylight between it and the standard i8: a more integrated carbon fiber and aluminum chassis, a wider range of materials used in the build, a larger luggage bay due to the omission of rear seats, a more aggressive suspension supporting heartier brakes and wider tires, and - perhaps - a different aero and ground-effects package to be visually different and make the most of the alterations. As for that power unit, Car says that the two options mentioned by Automobile are still under consideration, being either a 2.0-liter twin-turbo four-cylinder with 320 horsepower and a 204-hp electric motor, or a 3.0-liter straight six with 480 hp and an electric motor with 109 hp. Either choice gets an integrated starter motor good for another 27 hp, and a total torque number of roughly 520 pound-feet, 100 additional lb-ft than the current car. Word is that it will be shown for the centenary in 2016 then go on sale by the end of 2017.

BMW offering Track Handling Package for 2 Series

Thu, 17 Apr 2014

After getting a chance to drive the BMW M235i earlier this year, we mentioned our regret at not being able to sample the lighter and less powerful 228i Coupe. We'd like to have seen how close the latter could get to the former, noting that "there's a lot of room for upgrades with the $11,000 retail difference." BMW is closing that performance gap slightly, announcing that a Track Handling Package will join the options sheet for the 2015 228i Coupe.
The group bolts on Variable Sport Steering, Adaptive M Suspension and M Sport Brakes behind new 18-inch lightweight wheels wearing Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. There's no change to the 240-horsepower four-cylinder, but a coupe so equipped should be able to do plenty more with the horses it has thanks to a faster steering rack, sharper handling due to additional sensors and a ten-millimeter drop in ride height, and larger brakes and discs.
BMW has used the New York Auto Show as a venue to introduce the new Track Handling Package, and it will roll onto showroom floors in July and pricing will be announced sometime between now and then. Takers can get it with both the six-speed manual and eight-speed Sport Automatic, see it in the high-res image gallery above, and read about it in the press release below.
