2010 BMW M6 Overview

The 2010 BMW M6 is an artfully crafted coupe with racecar engineering evident from every angle.

Asphalt-destroying power comes from the 500-horsepower, 5.0-liter V-10, which hits the coveted 100 horsepower-per-liter mark – a truly impressive mark for a normally aspirated street car engine. Double overhead camshafts with variable cam timing and ten individual throttle valves – one per cylinder – ensure maximum airflow and power. This Formula 1-inspired engine is mated to a paddle-shifted seven-speed sequential-manual gearbox, or an optional six speed manual. Power is delivered to the rear wheels for maximum driving fun. This street-racer powertrain delivers 11 mpg city and 17 mpg highway ratings.

Sport seats are wrapped in leather and provide excellent lateral support. The front seats have a three-stage heat function, while an optional ventilated feature further enhances comfort. Alloy and leather interior trim pleases the eyes. A moonroof lets in the sunshine to warm you up, and the dual zone climate control keeps you cool. A 13-speaker audio system plays your favorite sounds, and an optional 825-watt stereo can rattle the windows when desired. A hard-drive based navigation system features voice command operation for hands-free use and displays real-time traffic information on an 8.8-inch screen.

A carbon fiber roof reduces weight and lowers the center of gravity, for enhanced handling capability. Further safety is ensured by big, beefy brakes with antilock and brake assist functions, and BMW’s Dynamic Stability Control. The engine also features variable valve timing, variable intake lifts and a dual exhaust system. The Dynamic Driving Control system is standard, with which the driver can change the behavior of a number of controls, including the throttle, transmission and steering feel. Active Roll Stabilization, which aids in flat cornering, is also standard and vehicle speed-sensitive steering is also standard. An Active Steering system, which varies the steering ratio according to speed and other conditions, is optional.Big 4-wheel disc anti-lock brakes are standard, along with 19-inch run-flat tires. An optional Sport Package brings 19-inch wheels with performance tires in staggered sizes, front to back, for improved performance. There are also some innovative lighting features; xenon adaptive headlamps swivel slightly to the side to help illuminate into corners, and adaptive brake lights shine brighter during hard braking. For front passengers, the experience is high-tech and luxurious. All 6-Series trims include BMW's iDrive system, which combines controls for communication, audio, climate control and navigation into a menu system accessed through a controller mounted on the center console.The M6 6-trims come very well equipped as luxury cars, but especially notable standard equipment includes power seats with adjustable lumbar support, leather upholstery, and a dual-zone climate control with odor filtration and humidity control.

The standard sound system includes eight speakers and two subwoofers. BMW Concept 90 Motorcycle debuts at Villa d'Este

The Concept 90 is one of two new vehicles BMW is showing off at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este on the tony shores of Lake Como in Italy. This year is the 90th anniversary of BMW Motorrad and the 40th anniversary of the R 90 S (inset) - the first production motorcycle to come with a front fairing - and BMW has worked with custom bike builder Roland Sands Design to craft a homage to the Daytona Orange boxer from the Seventies.
While following the line of its forbearer, obviously the Concept 90 has been sexed and sleeked up. The bodywork is of hand-worked aluminum, the giant halogen lamp of the 1975 model (which is when Daytona Orange was introduced) has gone LED, and the front engine cover, valve covers, exhaust and wheels have been made with a contrast-cut milling process.

BMW and Mini getting GoPro integration

The small, high-quality and relatively inexpensive GoPro camera has been revolutionary for Internet video, especially of cars. Imagine how much awesomeness and hilarity we would have missed without them. Finding ways to integrate the cams into performance cars is becoming increasingly popular among automakers, as well. For example, the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette has its Performance Data Recorder, and Volkswagen is giving GoPros to early buyers of the 2015 GTI. BMW Group is going straight to the source for its rendition, though, with a new app that allows drivers to control a GoPro from inside of some BMW and Mini vehicles.
In July, owners with 2012 or later models equipped with BMW Apps or Mini Connected can download the new app. There are a few hurdles to jump over, though. Not only do users need a model with the infotainment system, a WiFi-equipped GoPro camera is also required. The app also must be installed on an iPhone connected to the vehicle.
Once all of those stipulations are met, the app can configure and control the GoPro through iDrive and display a nearly live image on the infotainment system. Menus are simplified on-screen but still allow users to select among six camera modes, aim it and start and stop recording. While filming, it shows recording time, battery life and signal strength. While BMW's approach isn't quite as nicely integrated as the Corvette's solution, it's interesting to see automakers working to make filming easier. Scroll down to read the full announcement.

BMW i8 Concours d'Elegance Edition is so cool it's Frozen

The new, one-of-a-kind BMW i8 Concours d'Elegance Edition made a ritzy debut last night at BMW's private villa, giving the media its first chance to look at the ultra-exclusive hybrid.
As we said in our previous post, the most notable feature of the Concours d'Elegance i8 is its matte grey paint, known as Frozen Grey Metallic in BMW parlance. This isn't the first time we've seen this shade on an exclusive BMW, as it was last used for the Frozen Grey M3 from 2010.
Contrasting quite nicely with the i8's flat paint are its blue and white accents, and its Dalbergia Brown leather upholstery. Blue contrast stitching complements the interior aesthetic, as do the embossed BMW roundels in the headrests.
