First M5 Touring in California
I am the proud owner of first M5 touring ever produced. I imported it
from Germany and had it federalized by Barry Taylor Enterprises in
Richmond, Ca. Here's a link to the world wide M5 Touring Registry :http://www.bmwmregistry.com/models.php?id=25,
my car is at the top. BMW made 891 Tourings and never brought them to
the USA. I have owned my car for 5 years and it's time for a change. If
you are looking at this ad you know how rare and special these tourings
are. Here's a link to great information on the E34 M5 http://www.bmwmregistry.com/model_faq.php?id=12 Here are pictures from Germany before I bought the touring: http://euromcars.com/gschultz/04-09-07/ History: In the beginning of 2007 I stated to browse the German car site Mobile.de for an M5 touring. I saw my car and had my friend who runs euromcars.com go and check it out. It turns out the car is the first M5 touring to be built. There is some dispute with my car's vin ending with BL01001 and there's a BL 01000 but the experts in Germany insist that mine was done first. I purchased the car and had it federalized by now retired Barry Taylor Enterprises. He had been in the car importation business for over 45 years. It took until the middle of 2007 for me to get my car. I bought the car from the original owner. Condition: Exterior- I had a complete paint job in '08. I just had the hood, roof, bumper, and grille re-sprayed. It had picked up too many stone chips. The wheels were refinished 2 months ago. I just installed all new euro bumper strips. It looks pretty good. The front bumper was bead blasted down to clean plastic and painted. The body shop felt this the best way to make it like new. Interior- Very clean, I've had all of the seats recovered with good leather. It gets a ton of complements. The only modification I've done was to change the radio to a later BMW CD43 unit with Ipod connection. The iPod cable is near the parking brake. The FM had died in the original. I have replaced the rear window blinds and the rear dog net. I just purchased one of the last sets of OEM black floor mats. The dash is clean with no cracks. The door cards aren’t perfect but I’ve seen much much worse. Since I've owned it I've replaced: Valve adjustment just completed Fuel pump and CPS The brakes were replaced the first year I owned the car Radiator replaced first year Alternator (February) PS pump 2-EDC shocks, ordered from Greg at Concord BMW (Great guy) A/C compressor, has been converted to R134. It blows cool but not cold. Front steering components Very recent drive shaft rebuild including guibo and center support bearing. I have just passed strict California smog inspection. It burns virtually no oil. A fellow E34 M5 owner came by and asked me to start it up while cold. He was utterly amazed at how smooth it idled. We tried to balance coins on the plenum. This phrase is used a lot but I would truly drive this car cross country without fear. I bought the car with 295,000 kilometers and it now has approximately 369k or about 220,000 miles. It had a factory engine and transmission replaced in Germany at about 100k kilometers. With 220,000 miles it's not ready for a concourse but it's in very good condition. |

She's just a girl... who's an E28 fanatic
Tue, 02 Apr 2013Ashley Rodriguez has a thing for the BMW E28. The amateur train photographer has owned over 15 of the cars in her brief lifetime, and says she's attracted to the old 5 Series because of how rare they are. All told, she's owned every variation of the E28 with the exception of the 2.4td, and the crew from Petrolicious recently stopped by to train their lenses on her most recent acquisition: a lovely M535i. The site's latest video, Rare Things, takes a closer look at just what draws Rodriguez to the E28 and how her passion for the cars has evolved over the years.
As usual, Petrolicious serves up plenty of gorgeous footage of the vintage German sedan, and anyone who's ever harbored an obsession over any one particular model can certainly hear a few chords ring true in Rodriguez's words. Check out the clip below to see what we mean.
Why this could be the perfect time for Apple to make a car play
Fri, Aug 31 2018While the automotive and technology worlds have been pouring billions into autonomous vehicles (AVs) and preparing to bring them to market soon as shared robo-taxis, Apple has mostly sat on the sidelines. Of course, Apple is the last company to ever make its intentions known, and the super-secret tech cult giant hasn't been totally out of the AV game based on the clues that have slipped out of its Cupertino, Calif., citadel over the past few years. Related: Apple self-driving cars are real — one was just in an accident News first broke in 2015 that it had assembled an automotive development team, in part by poaching high-profile talent from car companies, to work on a top-secret self-driving vehicle project code-named Titan. (Thank you very much, Nissan.) Apple also subsequently broke cover by making inquiries into using a Northern California AV testing facility and receiving a permit to test AVs on public roads in California. But then as the AV race started to heat up in the last few years, Apple reportedly began scaling back its car activities by downsizing team Titan. More recently, Apple's car project has shown signs of life with the hiring a high-level engineer away from Waymo and luring one Tesla's top engineers and a former employee back to Apple. It also inked a deal with Volkswagen to provide a technology platform and software to convert the automaker's new T6 Transporter vans into autonomous shuttles for employees at tech company's new campus. That is a far cry from giving rides to Wal-Mart shoppers, like Waymo is doing as part of its AV testing in Phoenix. But this could be the perfect time for Apple to enter the AV market now that ride-sharing is reaching critical mass and automakers and others are planning to deploy fleets of robo-taxis. Apple could easily establish a niche as a high-end ride-sharing service – and charge a premium – given its cult-like brand loyalty and design savvy. The growth of car subscription models could also play in Apple's favor since is already has many people hooked on paying for phones in monthly installments – and eager to upgrade when a new and better model becomes available. To achieve this, some believe Apple will fulfill co-founder and CEO Steve Job's dream of building a car. And as the world's first and only $1 trillion company it's sitting on a mountain of cash that certainly gives it the means. But other tech darlings like Tesla and Google have discovered how difficult it can be to build cars at scale.
Updated 2017 BMW i3 goes 114 miles with new 33-kWh battery
Mon, May 2 2016The trend of electric vehicles getting bigger batteries and thus longer ranges continues with today's announcement that the 2017 BMW i3 will come with a 33-kWh battery good for 114 miles of range. That's a solid increase from the 81 miles of range from a 22-kWh pack in the original i3s. Officially called the 2017 BMW i3 (94 Ah) – that's not gonna roll off the tongue – the new battery is the same size as the original pack, but has a more than 50 percent increase in capacity. BMW says that the 114 miles will be available, "varying weather conditions and with the air conditioning or heating turned on," which sure sounds like real-world driving to us. The range-extender version of the i3 will also be available with the new 94 Ah battery. In the days' biggest non-surprise (given the i3 news), the BMW i8 is also getting a range boost and a facelift. Read more about the i3 in the press release below. Related Video: The new 2017 BMW i3 (94 Ah): More range paired to high-level dynamic performance: BMW i3 (94 Ah) with more powerful battery (33 kWh). Up to 114 mile combined1 (hwy/city) range under everyday conditions2. New BMW Home Charger Connect offering additional comfort and connected functions. Woodcliff Lake, N.J. – EMBARGO: May 1, 6:01 pm EDT / 3:01 pm PDT... Today BMW announced that BMW i will offer a new model range of its compact electric car, the BMW i3 and from the 2017 model year will be offering a new version with more than 50% increased battery capacity. The 2017 BMW i3 (94 Ah) has a capacity of 33 kilowatt hours (kWh) thanks to the higher energy density of the lithium ion cells. The BMW i team worked to ensure that the battery dimensions remain unchanged while still offering a significant range increase. Even in everyday conditions 2, the new Battery Electric BMW i3, in varying weather conditions and with the air conditioning or heating turned on, a range of up to 114 miles combined1 (hwy/city) is possible as shown by independent BMW testing cycles3. The driving performance figures of the 170 hp AC synchronous electric motor remain virtually unchanged. The motor propels the BMW i3 from 0 to 60 mph in just over 7 seconds. This makes the BMW i3 both the sportiest and most efficient electric vehicle in its segment with an expected EPA electricity consumption of 27 kWh/100mi. In addition to the Battery Electric BMW i3, the Range Extender model will also feature the 94 Ah battery.
