Rare 1988 BMW M5

It has the original Owners Handbook still.

Service history back to 2008. It has about 1/2 of the original tool kit.

It has not been sitting for over 2 weeks since I have owned it. I make sure to at least run it on the weekends. I use it as a daily driver when the weather is cooler. The AC works but the car doesn't cool very well in the summer months just by design. These weren't built with tropical climates in mind.

Power Sunroof. It works but seems like it is starting to fail. No leaks.

Heated seats still work very well. The leather was replaced on the seat cushions on both the front seats. Along with a lot of the trim leather in the Car. The backs of the front seats will probably need to be replaced in the next few years. But all other leather is in good to excellent shape.

I have the badges. I just prefer it with out the badges and rear spoiler so I took them off and replaced the trunk lid with a 535 truck lid.  I sill have the original truck lid which will come with the car. I also have a fiberglass M5 European bumper If you are interested in doing that conversion yourself.

One of the original tires is in the Spare holder.

Here is what has been replaced in the last two years:

Front Hubs/wheel bearings

Urethane suspension bushings

Lowering springs and shock absorbers

740i control arm bushings

Fan Clutch

Starter

Paint

Breaks, Pads, Calipers.

Break Lines replaced with Stainless steel and bleed system.

Crankshaft sensor.

The Clutch

AC Compressor.

Speakers and Radio

All of the front and rear bumper trim.

Clean Mass Air Flow Unit/Sensor

Replace to Original Stock Exhaust System.

The car has been running and sounds great. Mechanically the car is sound. The body and paint are near perfect. I get a ton a compliments where I drive it.

The ugly is the Dash cracks and AC insulation blows through and needs to be replaced.
I have been waiting for cooler weather to pull off Dash and cover the cracks.
The back right window does not roll up and down.

BMW exec says public chargers not important for EV success

Fri, Jan 31 2014

What has BMW learned from years of electric vehicle test programs and working with Mini E drivers and the ActiveE Electronauts? According to BMW board member Herbert Diess, it's that public charging is not an important piece of the puzzle of making EVs a success. The way those early EV drivers used their vehicles told BMW that, "public infrastructure is not really very important because most people are charging their cars at home," Diess recently told Wards Auto. It's a message we've heard before. Diess' personal experience fits with this conclusion, he said. After driving his company's new i3 city EV for over a year, "not once have I touched public charging." Of course, the i3 does let the driver search for public charging stations and BMW has a partnership with ChargePoint, and Diess is not hinting that BMW is totally against the idea of public charging. Still, Diess' comments are not likely to find a warm welcome with everyone in the EV scene. An August 2012 UCLA study titled "Financial Viability Of Non-Residential Electric Vehicle Charging Stations" (PDF) clearly states: Adoption by consumers will largely be a function of the electric vehicle charging options available. Studies show that most EV charging currently takes place in the home (Carr 2010). Even so, in order for EVs to gain widespread consumer adoption, it is critical for an infrastructure of electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSEs) to exist outside the home. Even BMW's own electric drivers have been sending mixed messages. In 2010, a study of Mini E drivers found that 87.5 percent said a public charging infrastructure is necessary, though 75 percent later said they could manage without such a network.

BMW X3 spied with nip and tuck nearly complete

Fri, 18 Oct 2013

With the style-driven BMW X4 coming along in development, it looks like some of the forthcoming crossover's design could trickle over to its utilitarian sibling, the X3. Captured in these spy shots, it appears that the 2015 BMW X3 is preparing for a minor facelift, and from what we can tell, the biggest change will center on the CUV's headlights.
There is plenty of camouflage on the front and rear fascias to suggest updates will occur there, too, but we can definitely tell that the X3 will be getting LED-equipped headlights - at least as an option, anyway. The halos are slightly different from the current offering and there is also an LED strip above the headlights used as turn signal indicators. Another interesting thing we notice in these pictures is the nub at the bottom of the grille (also visible in recent X4 spy shots). While this could be some sort of test sensor for this prototype, it could also be a front-mounted camera for a possible parking assist system.
We don't expect any changes to the powertrain and we're not sure what updates could be in store for the interior, but we're guessing that that the 2015 X3 will debut shortly after the X4 goes on sale next year.

Next-gen BMW X3 caught in the cold

Sun, Mar 15 2015

The BMW X3 might be getting a bit long in the tooth, but fans of the sporty CUV can rest easy knowing that Munich hasn't forgotten about it. The third-generation crossover was caught squeezing in some end-of-season winter testing by our trusty spy photographers. According to our spies, the 2017 X3, code-named G01, will be underpinned by a new modular platform that promises more space in the cabin and better visibility out. Beyond that, the next X3 will get a range of B-series engines; expect four- and six-cylinder options, as well as a plug-in-hybrid option (eventually). Our spies also report that BMW will finally offer some more performance-oriented options, starting with an X3 M40i and eventually expanding into a X3 M. Beyond the oily bits, it looks like the X3's looks are set to evolve, growing slightly compared to its predecessor. BMW's trippy camouflage, though, prevents a closer analysis of the next-gen CUV's styling. Check out our full gallery of spy shots to see what's coming for the X3.
