Black 2010 Bmw M5 E60 S85 With Recently Replaced Smg, So No Surprises In Store on 2040-cars

Year:2010 Mileage:61800
Location:

Birmingham, Michigan, United States

Birmingham, Michigan, United States

This is a beautiful example of an M5.  It has high miles for it's age at ~60,000 miles, but has been highway driven early in it's life.  My friends can't believe it's got that many miles after seeing it.  Only a few thousand miles a year in the last two years.  I was only allowed to put 24 pictures up, but have more available upon request.  It is black ventilated leather on the inside (and they really cover everything in leather on the M5, not just the seats.  It's quite luxurious feeling really).  It is black sapphire metallic in color so doesn't show carwash swirl marks like a flat black one would.   This has the Olive Ash Wood interior, which is much classier than the aluminum standard trim in my opinion.  See the pictures for yourself, but they don't do it justice.

Some options:

-rear and rear passenger sun shades.  The rear is powered and the 4 side ones are manual.

-Technology package (not sure what that is)

-Climate package (not sure what that is)

-heads up display (nice, but not critical)

-Ventilated front seats (nice, not critical)

-Automatic high beam headlights (I've never really figured these out)

-Adaptive Headlights that swivel in turns (great feature)

-Comfort Access Keyless Entry (DO NOT buy any BMW without this!)

-Soft close doors (really useless feature unless you're 80 years old and too weak to close a door)

-Multifunction seats (adjustable in many many ways.  even the seat back has a hinge in the middle for extra adjustability.  If you can't get comfortable in this seat, you're not human)

I had the SMG pump and sensor go on me, which everyone talks about, but is rather unpleasant at $5,482.22.  But for you, that takes all the guessing out of this car as it's just replaced by a BMW dealer and as such, now has a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty on it.

I'm selling it because it's really not my type of car.  I bought it because a neighbor had one and raved about it, but I'm just not that spirited a driver.  So to me, the engine doesn't feel very powerful since I don't rev it high, and the transmission isn't smooth since I typically use automatic mode.  My neighbor drives a little more spiritedly and paddle shifts, so it that's you, then you'll love this car.  If you're just looking for an attractive, all-options luxury car, you shouldn't buy this car.  I've had a 335 and a 540.  I think I'll go back to their equivalent.  I may also list this locally if I get around to it, so there's a chance that I sell it locally and have to cancel the bid.  I'll probably wait a couple of days and see if there's much bidding before deciding to list it.  But please don't complain if I take the listing down for that reason.

The car certainly has some nice features.  The Alacantra roof liner is quite striking and gives a real air of disctinction to the car.  The wheels are classy but large, immediately differentiating this car from other 5-series.  The whole stance of the car is menacing without being over the top about it.  Lovely really, and it gets many compliments and looks of awe or jealousy.  The critical elements of Seat and Steering Wheel are fantastic - The best I've ever felt.  Even the cruise control was a pleasant surprise with some nice little features that let you jump up or down by 5mph.

When you do accelerate quickly, especially after pressing the intimidatingly labeled "M-Mode", the car becomes alive.  The seats grab you, the HUD shows a tachometer and speed on the windshield in bright colors and the engine seems to double in size.  The sound on this mode is quite glorious too, but it's quite a fast car, so you don't really have many opportunities to do this beyond the odd on-ramp.  The one time I was driving home after beeing at work late, an M3 took off from the stop light.  Since there was nobody around, I pressed the trusty M-Mode and jumped after him and past him.  We were both laughing, or perhaps giggling by the time I'd passed him in a thunderous roar.  Great fun, but not the kind of thing I ought to repeat.  It really made me appreciate this beast's power though.  I had a Cadillac CTS-V roar past me the other day, but he seemed too serious about the whole thing, so I let him rip along.  Contrasting the sound of this M5 to his car was quite striking.  His car sounded like it was 2000 rpm past the redline whereas the M5 at full boil sounds stolen from a Formula 1 car.  It's not that big thumping v8 sound, just a highly technical, full and ferocious sound.

It is a tough decision to sell it, but the car just doesn't make sense for a driver like me.

+++  THIS HAS A CLEAR TITLE +++  I don't know why AutoCheck reports a loan on the car.  I paid in cash and have a clear Michigan title in hand.  I called eBay, but they told me to call AutoCheck on Monday.

BMW invests in carbon fiber for use beyond i and M models

Tue, 13 May 2014

The immense amount of resources BMW has poured into its i brand program hasn't stopped, and recent developments indicate it's likely to pay off for BMW and BMW buyers outside the i brand. The i8 has already sold out its first year run, the i3 racked up 10,000 orders before it even went on sale and is already the subject of public discussion about being stretched into an i5, and a new investment in carbon fiber production has the automaker talking about CFRP use in non-i and non-M models.
BMW and SGL Group got together to form SGL Automotive Carbon Fibers (ACF), and the joint venture produces all of the CFRP for the i3 and i8 on two production lines at its plant in Moses Lake, Washington. After already investing $100 million to increase capacity, BMW has announced that another $200 million will add four more production lines, tripling production from 3,000 tons per year to 9,000 tons. When the expansion is complete in 2015, BMW says the Moses Lake facility will be the world's largest carbon fiber plant.
That's a lot of weave and the long view is that it will find its way into core models, with BMW exec Dr. Klaus Draeger saying, "As part of an intelligent mix of materials, we will apply carbon also beyond our BMW i and BMW M models in the future," and be able to do so "at competitive costs and in large quantities."

BMW details cheaper, sub-M performance cars for young 'brand ambassadors'

Tue, 11 Feb 2014

BMW's M cars are undoubtedly some of the best sport sedans in the world. Unfortunately, their prices put them out of the reach of a huge segment of buyers, many of them young. However, that might change in the near future as BMW launches its M Performance Automobiles performance sub-brand, positioned between its standard cars and the full M models.
Traditionally, M car buyers have been male and in their early-40s, according to Oliver Ganser, product strategy manager for BMW North America, speaking to Automotive News. However with MPA, BMW hopes to find even younger buyers "who will be brand ambassadors and appeal to the real enthusiasts that we have," he said. These new MPA models will see a mild boost in power and handling from off-the-shelf parts, instead of the unique engines and cutting-edge tech from their bigger M brothers.
The M Performance Automobiles line was launched last March at the Geneva Motor Show with high-performance diesel models of the 5 Series, X5 and X6. The first of the MPA models coming Stateside, the M235i, launches in March. We liked it when we drove it in January, but the $44,000 base price is still a bit steep. If it proves to be a success, we will see more of them, and if not, then it'll go down as another failed experiment, like the 318ti hatchback.

Ford, Toyota clean up in Best Car For The Money Awards

Fri, 22 Feb 2013

The U.S. News Best Cars for the Money Awards picks winners by looking at the average transaction price, five-year total cost of ownership, the regard a car has from the automotive press, reliability figures from J.D. Power and Associates and safety data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The result, according to the magazine, is "the best combination of critical acclaim and long-term value."
Ford nabbed six of the 21 categories that received awards this year, the Focus, Fusion, Fusion Hybrid, Taurus, Escape and Edge getting trophies. Toyota and its Lexus and Scion sub-brands took another five, the Tacoma and Tundra owning the two categories given to pickup trucks. The other ten awards were split between Honda with three, Buick with two, and one each for Subaru, BMW, Hyundai, Chevrolet and Mazda.
