selling my 02 M5 "project" car. This is by no means my first e39 5series but was my first m5. Great car! selling it because as we all know maintenance on our beloved ultimate driving machines requires funding. I just moved and priorities have changed.

I bought this car a few months ago at a dealer auction. It had been in a minor accident but it has been branded salvage and carries a NY 907 certificate as I never registered the vehicle. I replaced radiator, and front bumper, and have been using it as a daily driver since. I recently redid the front end (control arms, tie rod ends and struts).
A/C blows cold and the heat is superb. The heated seats work well as the cold weather months are almost upon us.  I changed the oil diligently using full synthetic every 3-4k miles. The leather seats are in good condition, normal wear on the drivers seat as no one ever really sat in the rear.  No rust.

Cassette & CD changer works as does the in dash GPS.

Car runs great for the amount of miles. Although it's not in perfect condition. It needs a little TLC.

External:
  • Because it was sitting at auction I believe someone replaced their chewed up rims with the OEM ones. As can be seen in the pictures they are not in the best of shape. However only one of them has given me problems and needs to be replaced.
  • These same people no doubt swapped in their regular headlamps for the OEM HID versions so there are standard bulbs for lighting at this time.
  • the rear defuser was never installed as can be seen in the pictures as well.
  • The parking assist works but one of the sensors went bad and I didnt get a chance to replace it.

Internal:
  • As can be seen in the pictures there are a few knobs missing from the radio and climate control. Everything works but it was difficult to replace those without purchasing an entire system from someone.
  • As usual the cupholders are broken but the alt cupholder has been installed in the center console.
  • I have the m5 door sills, which will be installed by the end of the auction.
  • no pixels are dead on the dash

I have tried to capture everything in photo and describe the issues. Any further questions feel free to ask.

BMW has the first smart emergency system for motorcycles

Tue, May 3 2016

While cars and trucks have long had smart emergency systems to send help in the event of a crash (think services like OnStar), motorcycles have had to go without -- a scary thought if you've ever worried about wiping out miles away from help. That's where BMW might just save the day, though. It's introducing the first smart emergency tech for motorbikes, Intelligent Emergency Call, to give the two-wheel crowd a proper safety net. You can trigger it yourself, such as when you need to help a fellow motorist, but the real magic comes with its automatic responses. IEC's acceleration and lean angle sensors can not only tell if your bike falls or crashes, but time the call for help based on severity. A bad accident will call for help immediately, for instance, while a gentler incident provides a delay so that you can cancel the call. If things are dire enough for that call to go out, it'll send your ride's position at the same time. Don't expect to see this system in North America, at least not any time soon. IEC will first launch in Germany sometime in early 2017, and it'll spread to other European countries soon afterward. There's no mention of availability in other countries, unfortunately. However, you may well see equipment like this become widespread among bike makers eager to one-up the competition.Related Video: This article by Jon Fingas originally ran on Engadget, the definitive guide to this connected life. 2014 BMW 4 Series Convertible [w/video]

Thu, 20 Feb 2014

Here it is, the fifth generation of BMW's 3 Series Convertible - only this one begins with a "4," having been rechristened as a droptop version of the new 4 Series Coupe. With thirty years of work on this same recipe and having gotten it so right for much of that time, the Munich compact premium convertible has been a WYSIWYG affair for decades: once you saw its sedan paradigm, you knew what it was going to look like in roofless two-door form, and what you saw is exactly what you got.
It is ridiculous to think that BMW would choose this new model and its new nomenclature to muck things up. The new car has, though, gotten larger and roomier, and even though it's now part of the racier coupe division within the company's compact line, it has gotten more, shall we say, mature. Driving even further away from the days when handsomely tipped bartenders could work their way into one, The Ultimate Tanning Machine had shed even more elan, going instead for elegance and an attitude befitting its $49,675 starting price (including $925 for destination).
It strikes a few odd notes, but what it does best, it still does better than anything else out there in its price range.

BMW gets exemption to allow self-parking 7 Series in US [w/video]

Mon, Jan 18 2016

The US-spec 2016 BMW 7 Series is gorged with enough technology for it to qualify as a finalist in our Technology of the Year award. But not all of the tricky bits found on the European-spec car are offered Stateside, like the automated Park Assistant Plus that lets a driver remotely move the car into and out of a parking space using the touchscreen keyfob. The reason is Section S5.3 of Standard No. 114 of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, which dictates that "the service brake... be depressed before the transmission can be shifted out of park.'" Since Park Assistant Plus is remote controlled, the brake pedal isn't pressed when the car shifts from Park into a gear. Automobile reports that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has conceded the law is too vague, and granted BMW's request for an exemption to bring the convenience feature to the US. NHTSA said that the point of the law was to have brake actuation during the transition from Park to a forward or reverse gear, not to insist that someone actually presses the brake pedal. BMW said it plans to bring Park Assistant Plus to the US soon, but the carmaker doesn't yet have a firm timeline for the move. To us that seems like a small yet significant victory as the marketplace fills up with cars that have abilities beyond the current laws to manage. Now if we could just get that whole FMVSS headlight issues worked out and enjoy some of that tasty Matrix and MultiBeam lighting. You can watch a video of the BMW system in action in the video below.
