Intro:

For your consideration is this excellent condition 1995 BMW M3.  It currently has only 48,000 original miles.  The cosmetic and mechanical condition matches what would be expected of an example with such low miles.  The factory finish is the very appealing Avus blue metallic (code 276) with the difficult to find cloth and Amaretta suede interior.  This M3 of course has a 5 speed manual transmission.  This is a three owner M3, currently owned by a BMW M3 enthusiast (also recently owned a nice E30 M3), and this M3 has always been adult owned.  This is a get in and drive very presentable vehicle that is ready for the next owner.  Please view the video, images, and description to get a clear idea on this M3's great condition.

Exterior Condition:

There is absolutely no evidence suggesting that any part of this M3 has been repainted.  The Avus blue metallic all looks to be the factory applied original and is in impressive condition.  The color has a pearlescent type effect to it where it changes tone pending the amount and angle of light.  This vehicle has of course traveled 48,000 miles so some typical very minor “wear” to the finish should be expected (ex: very minor nicks from stones that are not very numerous and more so limited to the front).  There is nothing significant flaw wise to note on the finish otherwise.  The color, texture, reflection, and condition matches throughout the car.  The finish is very glossy and has great depth to it.  It was recently detailed and waxed so does not need any attention.  I would rate the condition and presentation of the finish a very solid 9.3/10.  Very impressive and presentable condition.

The body of this M3 is of course in excellent condition as well.  It is very straight and completely solid.  It has been stored winters and driven mainly in nice weather.  Just like the finish, wear and flaws are extremely limited and probably less numerous that might be expected for even a 48,000 mile vehicle.  There are two extremely minor dings in the passenger door that are very shallow, difficult to notice, and could easily be removed with paintless dent repair if one was so inclined.  Some how and some way, there is a very small and minor bubble of oxidation on the driver side behind the rear wheel well just above the bumper.  Please view the picture as it is very minor.  It is very odd as such bubbles are not exhibited elsewhere on the vehicle so it may have possibly started due to a chip or something.  The passenger front bumper extremity, in the black plastic trim, has some minor scuffing to it.  Other than those items, there is not really anything that stands out (not that those even stand out) or worth noting.  All of the body panels look great and are very straight.  Impressive condition.  The gaps line up nicely.  Door and trunk jambs are great.  Doors, trunk, and hood all open and close nicely.  Underbody is very clean, solid, and straight.  Glass and lenses are in very nice condition.  Black trim and moldings are very presentable.  The stock rims are in very nice condition with very limited to no curb rash (A set of nice condition genuine FIKSE rims with certificate of ownership that the new owner can purchase separately).  The body of this M3 is in excellent well-taken-care-of condition and could easily be rated a 9.3/10.

Interior:

The interior of this M3 is in presentable condition and in the condition to be expected for a 40,000 mile vehicle.  There are not really areas of excessive wear but of course some areas of typical wear.  For example, the seats show just normal use.  There are not significant flaws like splitting, wear through, or etc.  They are in very nice condition and have plenty of years of life left.  Seat foam is nice and firm.  Seats are manually adjusted which saves some weight over the electric ones.  Other parts that receive constant touching (steering wheel, shift knob, door panel, etc.) are presentable and again show the expected use, not excessive use, of a 48k mile vehicle.  Carpet overall is very nice throughout with only a few minor and small bleach spots on the driver rear carpet/floor mat.  The rest of the interior (dash, headliner, door panels, console, etc.) again are very presentable.

Mechanical:

This M3 has been extremely well taken care of and always in excellent mechanical condition.  There are no areas mechanically that should require attention.  This M3 is good to go and ready to be enjoyed.  The engine starts up right away and idles smooth.  The engine runs strong and sound excellent.  No odd noises, vibrations, etc.  Runs at the proper temperature.  Excellent engine and not in need of attention.  Transmission is also great.  Absolutely no clutch slippage or gear shifting issues.  The rest of the drivetrain also is excellent.  The exhaust is in great condition and an upgraded cat-back system has been installed.  Brakes are great and not in need of attention.  Suspensions is also great and not in need of attention.  A front strut brace bar has been added.  Car drives very solid and confidently.  It is everything that would be expected for the mileage.  The air conditioning actually blows cold.  Speedo, tach, other gauges, radio, windows, sunroof, etc… of course work.  Spare and tool kit of course is present.  Tires should last a couple more seasons.  Only regular maintenance (oil change, other fluid changes) should be necessary.  This is a get in and go vehicle ready to be enjoyed.  It is top notch mechanically just as it is cosmetically.

Conclusion:

These E36 M3’s are well regarded by automotive enthusiasts.  In the context of affordable-to-premium sports cars and sports coupes from the mid-1990’s, E36 M3’s offer impressive handling, braking, and engine performance.  They have rock solid German engineering, are very usable and comfortable vehicles, and quite dependable.  Those seriously on the hunt for a nice, clean, original, un-modified, low mileage E36 M3 know how difficult it is to find a great example.  This one has all of the above traits and a few of the E36 enthusiast desired features such as the very appealing Avus blue metallic finish and uncommon light gray cloth/suede interior.  Condition wise, there is not much of anything that someone should be able to find fault in this example.  It looks and drives as good as should be expected of a 48,000 mile well cared for vehicle, if not better.  This is a top notch example of an E36 and should meet the needs of the next BMW enthusiast.  Serious buyers, please call with any questions, and or to arrange a viewing, between 8:00am and 8:00pm central.  Thank you!

Alex Zanardi back in the driver's seat with BMW

Tue, 21 Jan 2014

If there's ever been an inspirational story in the pantheon of motor racing history, surely it's that of Alessandro Zanardi. The Italian driver worked his way up the motor racing ladder, making it into Formula One and winning two CART championships for Chip Ganassi Racing back before the series re-merged into IndyCars. Tragedy struck in 2001 when he lost both his legs in a crash at the Lausitzring in Germany, but rather than accept his fate, Alex pushed on. Fitted with prosthetic limbs, he learned to drive a racing car with hand controls and got back in the driver's seat.
Zanardi drove for BMW in the European Touring Car Championship and then in the World Touring Car Championship that replaced it, landing on the podium several times despite his physical disadvantage. He left racing in 2009 to train for the Paralympics, winning two gold medals in London, but Alex apparently couldn't shake the racing bug. BMW modified one of its M3 DTM racers with hand controls for him to test later that year. And now he's returning to motor racing full time.
BMW has just announced that Zanardi will be driving a Z4 GT3 in the Blancpain Sprint Series, the successor to the FIA GT Series and short-distance counterpart to the Blancpain Endurance Series. The car has been modified with the hand controls the Bavarian automaker's racing department fitted to the aforementioned M3 DTM and will be fielded by the ROAL Motorsport team with which Alex challenged for the European Touring Car Championship last decade.

2015 BMW M4 Convertible Quick Spin [w/video]

Fri, Oct 9 2015

Quite a while ago, we ran a story where our editors disclosed their guilty pleasure cars. There, I admitted my love for the ultra-comfortable Acura RLX. But I have another automotive guilty pleasure, and it's the BMW M4 Convertible, and the droptop M3 that came before it, as well. Whether it's an E46, E93, or the new F83 M4 model, I just love the idea of a droptop M car. It kind of goes back to my Lexus RC F review, where I posit that most consumers buy a car like this solely for the image. To the point of this car, if you're opting for a convertible, you're boldly throwing out any pretense that you bought this car for its performance. It's a different and far grander indulgence than something like a droptop Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, or even a Corvette, and that's especially the case with the new M4, as I found out after a week at the wheel. Driving Notes Anyone that's listened to me on the Autoblog Podcast knows I've been none too kind about the state of BMW's turbocharged M cars. In effect, they're too easy to drive. In older models, the narrow power band meant you needed to always keep an eye on the tach, lest you fall into a weak zone. But because today's turbocharged M engines are so damn torquey, you can simply mash the throttle, regardless of engine speed or gear, and zoom forward. That's mostly the case here, although with a 7,500-rpm redline, the M4 at least maintains the illusion that you have to keep the revs up. Power delivery is fast and immediate, capable of catapulting the M4 towards the horizon at even half throttle. But more than the brutal power delivery, this latest M entertains with a strange but familiar singing voice. It's an almost feral, straight-six howl, particularly high in the rev range. But because of the single-scroll turbochargers and today's sound-tuning sorcery, the noise here is far richer and complex than what you'd get in a naturally aspirated M car, like the old E46. The turbos hiss and spit, and wide-open-throttle upshifts come with a cackling snap from the quad-tipped exhaust. Despite my belief that M cars' manual transmissions are generally pretty lousy these days, the M4's gearbox is far better than what you'll find in an M5. The clutch is more forgiving than in the larger sedan, too. With a broad catchpoint and a linear action, it feels natural and intuitive to work.

BMW may show off autonomous concept at 100th anniversary

Thu, Dec 31 2015

BMW celebrates its 100th birthday in 2016, and the brand might mark the occasion by showing a concept with a nearly production-ready autonomous system, according to Autocar. Company sales and marketing boss Ian Robertson hinted that the automaker could be close to introducing the next-gen tech. "We've reached the 'feet off' phase of autonomy, and now we're in the 'hands off' and 'eyes off' phase, but only for brief periods," Robertson told Autocar. He thinks fully autonomous driving could be possible in 15 years because the company needs to work out how to make it safe. In addition to talking about autonomous tech, Robertson said the company's March 7th centenary would focus the future. "There will be some products we will share," he told Autocar. "Maybe what I've been alluding to will be the direction of that." BMW has tested autonomous technology for years and already impressively showed an M235i that could drift by itself. An i3 (pictured above) was even able to park without driver assistance in a multi-story garage at CES last year. Recent rumors about Google's piloted ridesharing service suggest this could be the perfect time for the German automaker to take the next step. BMW's bigger challenge could be determining how much autonomous ability to give drivers. Tesla might soon reduce features from its Autopilot system because a few owners aren't responsible enough to use the tech safely. California also proposed regulations that could limit the capabilities of driverless vehicles. Related Video:
