Thanks for looking! *** This car started life as a stock 1998 BMW M3, but was completely decked out by Active Autowerke to the tune of over $35,000 ($23,650.95 in 1999, $6,851.14 in 2006, and $5,196.33 in 2012). All of the work was done by Active at Active, and it is fully documented. In fact, I have every piece of documentation for this car since the day it rolled of the lot, and all of the work has been done by either Active, BMW or a certified BMW mechanic. This car pushes about 470HP according to Active. It has never been abused or raced. I purchased the car from the original owner who kept it as a Sunday driver, which is represented by the less than 42,250 original miles on the odometer. The beauty of this car is that it drives like stock, albeit with a lot more of a kick. It drives and handles exactly like a BMW M3 should...not like the disappointing 240HP stock M3s that leave you wanting more. The car has received all of its required service and it remains in great operating condition. The tires have about 5,000 miles on them, the rotors and the calipers have a ton of meat on them. This car needs nothing, but a new driver. The matching hardtop does not leak, and the soft top has almost never been used. I can provide copies of the documentation and any additional high resolution pictures by request. The car also comes with an additional set of staggered wheels and tires. The wheels are not in the best of shape, but all four of the Perrelli PZERO tires have less than 1000 miles on them (bought and mounted in Nov. 2012). The only reason that I created this new username is due to eBay's vehicle listing policy, which has labeled my primary account as a "high volume seller". As some of you know, eBay users are permitted to list 6 vehicles a year without an insertion fee (instead they pay a final value fee of $125), but if you relist the same vehicle that will count against your 6 listings (i.e. 6 different vehicles each listed one time and 1 vehicle relisted 6 times is the same thing). Despite being unaware of this policy when I relisted a vehicle too many times, I have no issue with it and feel that it is fair. However, if an eBay user ever goes over this 6 vehicle limit the user is permanently labeled as a "high volume seller" and the user is never again permitted to take advantage of the 6 insertion free listings. The alternative is paying a $50 insertion fee for each listing and relisting. This is directly from an eBay customer service rep who stated they do not agree with the policy and that eBay gets a lot of complaints about it. Jaguar Land Rover to drop supercharged V8 for turbocharged BMW power
Wed, Jul 27 2016There are few things that sound as good as Jaguar's 5.0 liter supercharged V8. As great as it is when the supercharger whines or the exhaust cracks and pops on throttle lift-off as the air pressure equalizes, the basic design dates back to the '90s. Plainly, the engine isn't as efficient as it needs to be, but designing a new V8 from the ground up is an expensive proposition. Instead, Automobile reports that Jaguar Land Rover is set to use a twin-turbocharged V8s supplied by BMW. Scalable architecture is all the rage as automakers streamline designs in order to save costs. For example, Jaguar's current supercharged V6 is quite literally a V8 with two holes missing. They didn't even change the length of the block. It seems both of those designs are on their way out, with the V6 being replaced by a inline-six closely related to the company's inline four. It seems that rather than designing an new and expensive V8 for their top of the line models JLR, is sourcing from BMW. From 1994 to 2000, BMW owned Land Rover. A few models, including the Land Rover Range Rover, used BMW engines then and in the initial years of Ford's JLR stewardship. It seems things have now come full circle. BMW currently makes a twin-turbo 4.4 liter V8 that produces anywhere from 440 to 600 horsepower, depending on the application. Automobile says that a new 4.0 liter V8 is in the works and that it will most likely be the engine that JLR uses. Expect it to be more powerful, more fuel efficient, and lighter than what both BMW and JLR currently offer. This seems like a win for both companies. BMW gets to offset the cost of a new motor while JLR, a smaller company, doesn't have to invest in a whole new architecture. As automakers search for ways to cut costs, expect collaborations like this to continue. Infiniti and Mercedes-Benz both share a four-cylinder engine. Ford and GM have worked together to design a shared 10-speed automatic. While we may lament the loss of that wonderful Jaguar Land Rover engine, we can still be happy that they haven't abandoned the V8. BMW says its diesels are above board
Fri, Sep 25 2015BMW got yanked into the riptide of the Volkswagen diesel scandal thanks to a report in Auto Bild, which Auto Bild has now clarified. On Thursday the German magazine said that when the International Council on Clean Transportation tested the X3 xDrive 2.0d, the ICCT discovered the diesel X3's tailpipe emissions exceeded the European limit by more than 1,100 percent. The key detail, though, is that apparently at no time did the ICCT find that BMW cheated on any emissions tests. No one has explained why the X3 diesel had such high emissions and the ICCT wouldn't comment on the Auto Bild report. But the mag has issued a clarification asserting that in spite of the excessive emissions, there is no evidence BMW engaged in regulatory subterfuge. Every other BMW vehicle ICCT tested was within compliance, but the organization's report from October 2014 - that no one paid attention to - found that nitrogen oxide emissions in 15 vehicles it tested averaged seven times the European limit. The brand's stock is still suffering from the taint. It dropped almost ten percent the day the report came out before rallying to close at five percent down. But on Monday BMW stock closed at 84.01 euros, and as of writing on Friday it's still trying to fight its way back above 80 euros. With so many people still just trying to find out how widespread the the issue is, and trust rather low, it's likely BMW won't be the one dragged down, fairly or not. Related Video:
Wagons make a bit of a comeback, with new models, sales on the rise
Thu, Jan 10 2019Consider this an official invitation to hop on the wagon bandwagon. There's still tons of room because, well, it's a wagon (and market share is still extremely small). But according to new data, the segment is growing. According to a report from Bloomberg, using data from Edmunds.com, roughly 211,600 Americans purchased wagons in 2018. That is technically down from the 237,600 sold in 2017, but wagon sales in the U.S. are up 29 percent from where they were five years ago. It's also the third year in a row that wagon sales broke the 200,000 mark. The sales trends have been somewhat representative of the availability of wagons. New models have debuted during the past 5 years and therefore offer more opportunity at more brands to buy wagons. In addition to more modest cars such as the Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen, several luxury and performance brands are offering wagons today, such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, Jaguar, Volvo and Buick. (Bloomberg's headlines make the point that "crossovers are for the Kardashians," and wagons are just, well, classier.) This uptick in brand-name availability, as well as extremely well-executed design on most of the wagons currently available, has helped increase the segment's desirability. That, and its ability to better accomplish the same tasks at hand while standing out from the crossover and SUV crowd. Still, the posted numbers represent a small fraction of the total vehicles sold. According to the data, wagons only held a 1.4 percent market share in 2017, the segment's best recent year. Wagons hold a steadfast place in America's past, and they're writing an interesting new story. With the downturn in traditional cars, they may continue to create an unexpected narrative.
