1988 BMW M3. I purchased this car in September of 2012 and went right to work restoring/replacing any aspect of the car that needed to be addressed. This is a clean title M3 with brand new paint, refinished interior, many aesthetic upgrades, and tons of mechanical improvements. From a mechanical perspective, the following has been performed (there has been more than just what is below replaced, and I do have receipts for everything, but I'll refrain from listing every hose, ring, or gasket). -New Injectors -New Water Pump -New Water Pump Belt -New Alternator -New Spark Plugs -New Radiator -New Battery -New Thermostat -New Intake Boot -New Power Steering Belt -New AC Belt -New Ignition Wires -New Radiator Hose -New Expansion Tank Hose -New Thermostat Hoses -New Upper Radiator -New Water Hose Set -New Hood Shock Strut Report -New Brake Pads and Sensors -New Distributor Cap -New Ignition Rotor -New Valve cover Gasket -New Camshaft Seal -New Intake Hose -New Return Connector -New Power Steering Mount Bushings -New AC Compressor Mount Bushings -New Alternator Bushings -New Primary Fuel Pump -New Secondary Fuel Pump -New Fuel Filter -New Oil Filter Housing Gasket -New Power Steering High Pressure Hose -New Power Steering Suction Hoses -New Fuel Tank -Newer Windshield Washer Tank -New Windshield Washer Blades -VAC Motorsports Z3 Shifter Kit -New S50/52 Timing Chain Tensioner From a performance/visual standpoint, the following parts have been addressed: -Full Alpine White Respray -Painted/Restored Window Moldings -Restored Black Leather Interior -New Bilstein Sport Struts -New H&R Sport Springs -New Hankook Ventus V12 Tires (215/40/18 Front, 245/35/18 Rear) -OEM BMW 18" M-Parallel Wheels (Custom Painted Silver W/ Gunmetal Face) -Refinished 15" BMW OEM Wheels Included -Stromung Exhaust W/ Custom Made Center Section -New Headlights -New Fog Lights (Clear) -New Turn Signals (Clear) -New Tail Lights -New Tow Hook Cover Set -New Matte Black Front Grille Set -New Belt Moldings -Red "Evo" Bumper Tape -"Evo" Style Front Splitter -New Windshield -35% 3M Window Tint -Reconditioned OBC -New Shift Know -New Shift Boot -New Custom Floor Mats As for negatives for the car, there are a few but not many. At idle the car does have some chatter, but everything I have researched says this is quite normal for an E30, and the car shifts and performs great. On the interior, there are one or two pixels out along the radio and OBC, but that is getting fairly nit-picky. As mentioned this car was purchased last year, so I don't have a long history outside of Carfax. Carfax does show a theft with the car year's back, but that is all I know and the previous owner here in Oklahoma knew nothing of it either. While the history is somewhat unknown (and the miles may be a tad higher than other cars in this price range), the thorough work and reconditioning of this vehicle make it something very special to anyone who sees it. There really isn't much else I can think of that could be addressed with the car. We have receipts for all parts purchased, and can happily get anyone in touch with the mechanic who performed the work. We have really gone through the car in its entirety and I feel confident that if the car sells, it will be a serious head turner for the buyer, and a great performer. This car seems to get more "thumb's up" than any of the other performance vehicle we own. I do not need to sell this car, rather for the right situation I see myself letting the car go to free up space and begin another project. Thanks in advance for looking at this ad and please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. |

Lexus to use BMW 3.0-liter straight-six in next-gen IS sedan?
Thu, Feb 21 2019Here's a rumor so wild it needs a U.S. Fish and Wildlife permit. Japan's Best Car magazine reports that the next-generation Lexus IS will offer BMW's B58 3.0-liter inline-six as one of four powertrain options. That's the same engine found in the new Toyota Supra with 335 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. What's more, the fourth-gen IS will resurrect the IS F model gone AWOL during the current third generation, and do it with the twin-turbo V6 from the Lexus LS 500. The current TTV6 makes the same 416 hp in the LS 500 as the 5.0-liter V8 did in the first Lexus IS F 12 years ago. According to the magazine, the other engine options would be Toyota's 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, a 2.5-liter for a hybrid model, and a 2.4-liter turbo. We don't know where that last engine fits in. BMW doesn't make a 2.4-liter, and Toyota appears to have retired all of its 2.4-liter applications. Ignoring that, the 3.0-liter straight-six looks like it would replace the current 3.5-liter V6 rated at 311 hp and 280 lb-ft. This wouldn't be the first time the Supra's engine has been ported to the IS. Lexus mavens will remember that two years after the introduction of the original IS in 1998, Lexus put the Supra's 2JZ 3.0-liter straight-six engine in the IS 300 — without the turbochargers, thank you. But Best Car's prediction would have zero relation to history. Those were both Toyota engines back in 2000, and even ignoring the power differential, the IS didn't compete with the Supra. Putting BMW's 3.0-liter in the Z4 and the Supra works because they are the same car. And again, even ignoring the power differential, the more powerful Z4 doesn't compete with the Supra. Best Car's scenario has BMW selling one of its best engines for use in a direct competitor to the 3 Series. Lexus would need to design an engine bay long enough to swallow an inline-six, not a bread-and-butter engine for the brand, yet still be sensible for three more compact powerplants. Then, assuming BMW and Toyota made the same deal as with the Z4 and Supra, the Lexus would be down by a healthy double-digit horsepower margin on its German foe. The new Supra gives up 47 hp to the roadster. Where's the upside? It's said the trim sedan will stay about the same size, on a wheelbase roughly four centimeters longer, but lose a substantial chunk of weight.
Meet the inventor of the BMW 3 Series wagon
Sat, 11 May 2013It's hard to imagine, but once upon a time, there were only two BMW 3 Series variants: the coupe and sedan. Back before gran coupes, convertibles and yes, even touring models were available, buyers could only get their 3 Series fix if it came with two or four doors and a fixed roof. Back in the mid '80s, BMW engineer Max Reisbock was having some trouble fitting his whole family into his four door. Rather than suck it up and buy a van, he picked up a wrecked 3 Series and got to cutting in a buddy's garage. Months later, he had the very first 3 Series Touring ever built.
At first, he kept the the car to himself, using it to haul friends and family around, but he eventually showed it off to his friends at work. When the BMW executives found out about his project, they called him up to take a closer look. After putting an eyeball on the car, they took it, copied his design, made a few tweaks and quickly rolled out the first production 3 Series Touring. How's that for validation? Check out the video below for Reisbock's story.
BMW doubles i8 production to meet demand
Sat, Mar 28 2015They're not exactly Ford F-150 pickup truck numbers, but global sales of the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid are spurring the German automaker to step up the supercar's pace of production. As rumored, Bimmer, which has been pretty happy with sales of its i3 electric vehicle, is going to double the production pace of the i8. BMW's Germany factory will now put out about 20 i8 vehicles a day, Automotive News Europe says. That should cut down the wait time for the model, which started sales in both Europe last June and in the US two months later. Right now, buyers have to wait about four months to get their i8 plug-in vehicles, Automotive News Europe says, citing German outlet Automobil Produktion. Given that the cars retail for $135,000, we suspect these are people who probably aren't accustomed to wait for much. In January, BMW said that it sold almost 18,000 i3 and i8 plug-in vehicles last year globally, with about a third of those going to the US. Specifically, BMW moved 555 units of the i8 last year (and the vehicle was really only available for about five months) and another 198 through February. Through February, Bimmer also moved 1,759 units of the i3.
