1988 Bmw M3 Base Coupe 2-door 2.3l on 2040-cars
Jamaica, New York, United States
Thank you for checking out my 1988 BMW E30 M3. The E30 M3 in my opinion is by far the best M3 ever made. This is a fine example of a mostly original M3 that has never been raced, mistreated or been in any accidents. Below I have made a brief outline of the condition.
EXTERIOR - The car was repainted by a reputable shop and is currently in excellent condition. It was just fully detailed and looks amazing. - Body is straight as can be. - Absolutely No Rust - Wheels are original and in very good condition. - Tires have about 60% tread left INTERIOR - The car has it's original tan interior. The interior is in excellent shape with no tears, marks, rips or excessive wear. To make it showroom the interior could be refinished but that's totally up to the new owner. - All gauges, lights, doors, windows and electrical is in good working order. - Odometer is accurate and is fully functional. MOTOR & TRANS - Original S14 Motor was just refreshed last year and has less than 200 miles on it. Parts replaced include JE pistons, timing chain, timing guide, head gasket set, oil pump, water pump, lower engine gasket set, intake air flow sensor, rod bearings and main bearings. Also the head was serviced and the valves were resealed. The block is now bored to fit the larger 94mm pistons. - Original Getrag 5 Speed transmission is in excellent shape and shifts smoothly. CHASSIS - Completely Rust Free. Absolutely Solid HIGHLIGHTS - No Accidents - Vin tags on every panel except passenger side front panel. Vin tags everywhere else including above the tool set and behind both the driver side and passenger side rear side markers. SUGGESTIONS - Suspension could use tightening. Drives fine but if you really want to let it rip you would benefit from having the suspension upgraded. - Interior is 100% original and hasn't been re-tinted. Depending on how original you'd like to stay you may or may not want to touch the interior. - Super Sprint exhaust is currently installed. You may want to go back to the original exhaust if you prefer. This is a 1988 E30 M3 and is eligible for historic registration. Please check with your local DMV for guidelines. I have tried to outline the car the best I could however I realize that you may have questions. Please ask as many questions as you'd like before bidding. As this is a classic I definitely recommend a PPI before purchase, this is an AS IS sale and all sales are final. You are more than welcome to setup a time with me to see it in person and take it for a test drive (deposit required before driving). ** Please note the Autocheck in not accurate, apparently there was some documentation confusion back in the late 90's. This is a no accident vehicle. The Carfax is 100% clean, feel free to run a report or email me for mine ** |

BMW working on DCT for its FWD cars?
Thu, Oct 29 2015Having introduced its first front-wheel drive products, a report in BMW Blog says that BMW is developing a dual-clutch transmission to use in some of those vehicles. If that is the case then BMW would be catching up to its competitors, with Mercedes-Benz using its 7G-DCT in models like the CLA, and Audi putting its six-speed S-tronic in the A3 and seven-speed S tronic in the A6. Acura and Hyundai use dual-clutch gearboxes in their model lineup as well. Right now the only self-shifting option in the front-wheel-drive-based BMW X1 is an Aisin-sourced eight-speed automatic, the one we described as "perfectly fine but not a standout" that requires "some prodding to coax a downshift." The eight-speed sport transmission will be an option in late 2016, but its paddle shifters and quicker gearchanges still won't be equal to a DCT. That latter possibility would give BMW a sportier avenue of development if it did wish to create something truly athletic out of the X1 – BMW Blog muses on an X1 M40i or an X1 M (you should be past the point of shock if this happens). The Mini range could also benefit, the JCW trims currently fitted with a six-speed sport automatic being obvious candidates. Assuming Munich engineers are on the case, it is predicted that we won't see this transmission for at least two years.
Alpina bringing new B4 Bi-Turbo Cabrio to Geneva
Mon, 24 Feb 2014Interested in picking up a new BMW 4 Series with a turbo six? You've got options: you can get the 435i with 300 horsepower or spring for the M4 with 425 hp. But if it's the convertible model you want, we're afraid you'll be limited to the latter as the M division can't help you (at least not for the time being). But that's where Alpina comes in.
The aftermarket tuner closely associated with BMW offers the B4 Bi-Turbo (at least in Europe) with that same 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six massaged up to 410 horsepower that starts to pose a threat to the M4. What's more is that the Alpina's 442 pound-feet of torque eclipses the M4's 406 lb-ft, to say nothing of the 435i's 300.
Best of all, Alpina just confirmed via Facebook that it'll offer the B4 in convertible form, bringing the resulting BMW Alpina B4 Bi-Turbo Cabrio to the Geneva Motor Show. We'd expect the weight penalty to knock it slightly off the coupe's quoted 4.1-second 0-60 time, but not by much. If only BMW were to bring this one Stateside like it does with the B7 sedan.
BMW debuts 435i ZHP edition coupe [UPDATE]
Thu, May 21 2015Performance enthusiasts enamored of the BMW 4 Series but not quite ready to step up to the M4 will be excited at the arrival of the new ZHP edition. Reviving a code last seen on a package for the E46 series a decade ago, the 2016 BMW 435i ZHP Edition boasts a series of performance upgrades aimed not only at "improved optics and aerodynamics; it is also notably quicker with more precise handling." The special 4 Series packs a series of BMW M Performance accessories to give it a more aggressive attitude, including a new Track Handling Package, M Sport Package, limited slip differential and a range of M Performance parts. The Track Handling Package alone includes 18-inch alloys, M Sport Brakes with four-piston calipers up front and two pistons in the back and incorporates the Active M Suspension with variable dampers and steering. With revised software and a new air intake, the M Performance Engine Kit kicks in an extra 35 horsepower for a total of 335 hp and either 32 more pound-feet (with the automatic transmission) for a total of 332 lb-ft or a 17-lb-ft boost (with the manual) for a total of 317 lb-ft. That's enough to drop 0.2 seconds off the 435i's 0-60 time and 0.5 seconds off the run from 50 miles per hour to 75. BMW also promises better accelerator response and engine note. There's a sport exhaust that sheds 8.8 pounds of weight, a full carbon-fiber aero kit and visual enhancements inside, out and under the hood. The German automaker will only be offering 100 examples of the enhanced coupe starting in July, with pricing to be announced closer to the launch date. UPDATE: Of course, if you miss out on one of these special editions, you can always spec out your own from the M catalog with parts installed at BMW's Vehicle Distribution Center. And, as BMW points out in correspondence with Autoblog, you could even order one up with all-wheel drive and in convertible or four-door Gran Coupe body-styles if that's more your pace.
