I purchased this 1992 BMW 850i in 10/2008 with 95,732 miles. It now has 98,353 miles on it. My intent was to make this a show car and only take it to car shows. With two kids that are getting older, I can no longer afford to keep her.
As you can tell, I didn't drive the car much. I kept it in the garage all the time and wiped it down, replaced parts as projects, and drove it around the block a few times just to get some air. I did drive the car from St Louis to Chicago & back on an occasion and she drove GREAT!!! The more I drove the car, the more it wanted to be driven. This is a great car and whoever gets it will be very happy! You can also tell, I spent hundreds of hours detailing and cleaning the engine. The V12 engine had to show well if I were to take it to a car show.
This car has new German manufactured windshield (not cheap glass) (took months to get cleared for windshield), K&N Filters, new fuel filters, rebuilt carbon filter, new cabin filters NGK spark plugs, new upper & low oil pan gaskets, new front L & R lower control arms, new front wheel bearings, 2 new batteries, new brake fluid, new belts, Supersprint exhaust w performance chips, K40 radar detector, new rotors and distributor caps, new head liner and refinished interior (very tastefully done). The air conditioner does works!! It just needs to be recharged with the R12 but it is so hard to come by. Feel free to convert it over, but I preferred the R12.
The cars does show some wear; especially on the roof. When I purchased the car, the owner kept it under a tarp (not sure why) as he didnt drive it after his wife passed away. The nose has a crack as you can see on the picture, and I think the alternator may be bad. Not sure because I havent driven the car in over a year.. I would pull it out, wipe it off and pull it back into the garage. The car stayed clean! The car also needs an alignment after new control arms and wheel bearings. I later found out that when I took the seats out to redo them and clean the carpet, I should have disconnected the batteries. As a result, the SRS light is on. Who knew.. Other than that, everything works on the car.
My next project was the BMW Alpine alarm install. I have two of them (used) and will throw them in for free with all other stuff I find in the garage since I will no longer need them.
If you have any questions, please email me. You can leave your number and I will call you on lunch or after work.
This is a great car that I really hate to part with.

BMW i3 misses top Euro safety rating [w/videos]
Wed, 27 Nov 2013The Euro NCAP just tested a recent batch of new cars including the 2014 BMW i3, and the EV Bimmer scored less-than-perfect results. Though not horrible, BMW's all-electric/range-extended i3 was given a four-star (out of five possible) crash rating due to concerns with front-occupant whiplash and side-impact protection.
Based on the crash results, the BMW provided suitable protection for occupants in the frontal, side barrier, pedestrian and child-seat tests, but the i3 was tripped up when it came to the more severe side pole test and the rear-impact test. The pole test showed protection to the chest of the test dummy was "weak," and the front seats only provided "marginal" protection against whiplash for front passengers. Scroll down to watch two videos released by the Euro NCAP of the i3 being tested.
2015 BMW M4 Coupe ditches some doors, gains some grunt
Mon, 13 Jan 2014If you saw our earlier post about the hot new BMW M3 Sedan and were about to call blasphemy for no coupe version, just settle down, silly. Remember: BMW now badges its two-door 3 Series models with the number four, and thus, meet the 2015 M4 Coupe. Looks hot, right?
So yeah, it's pretty much just the M3 with two less doors, but that doesn't make it any less important - or potent. Power comes from a turbocharged, 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine, sending 425 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels via either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. You know, the usual.
Not only is the M4 more powerful than the M3 Coupe it replaces, it's a good deal lighter, too. BMW has managed to cut 176 pounds of weight out of the M4, and that means, with the increased output numbers, that the M4 will scoot to 60 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds with the DCT or 4.1 seconds with the do-it-yourself tranny. Either way, that's not what we'd call slow.
BMW confirms new Mexican plant
Thu, 03 Jul 2014After over a year of speculation, BMW is finally officially announcing that it's building a factory in Mexico. The new plant will cost the German automaker roughly $1 billion US and will have a capacity of about 150,000 vehicles a year when complete. However, production won't begin there until 2019.
The new factory is being built near the city of San Luis Potosí, Mexico, with plans to employ about 1,500 people. Unfortunately, BMW is still mum about which models it's producing south of the border. Earlier rumors indicated the possibility of the 3 Series, 1 Series and maybe even Mini models there.
BMW says Mexico's multiple free trade agreements are a major factor in the choice of location of the plant. They make it possible for the automaker to ship models more cheaply to North America, parts of South America and the European Union. "The Americas are among the most important growth markets for the BMW Group. We are continuing our strategy of 'production follows the market,'" said Harald Krueger, the board's head of production, in the company's official announcement.
