Beautiful 89 BMW 750 il. This was the first year of the BMW V/12. Smooth, solid power, runs and sounds great. This car belonged top a friend. I was with him when he got it, helped him maintain the car for years before buying it from him myself. I'm a car guy so I am always on top of maintenance. Only seeling the car because we just don't have space. We have 10 cars in an areas meant for 6 and we live in a gated community where we cannot park cars in the street or anywhere other than the driveway and garage. This is low car on the totem pole so sadly I need to let it go.

Car is in great condition, a few minor dings as can be expected from a 24 year old car but barely noticable. Interior is straight, no rips, tears, etc in the leather. Great condition inside and out. TSW staggered wheels, 19's rear, 18's front, color matched to car. Power front and rear seats, heated front seats, power windows, locks, mirrors, moon roof, dual zone climate control.

Car is in great mechanical and appearance condition. Runs well, idles well, does not over heat, shifts solidly, no transmission slipping, drives great. In economy mode, and if you don't stand on those 12 cylinders, the car will average about 20 on the freeway. Not lightning fast from a stop but once it gets moving, watch out. Easily passes most cars on the freeway, tons of power even from 80 mph and up. This car has 300 HP!!! Put the car in sport mode and at 80 on the freeway, mash the pedal down. You'll feel it push you back in your seat and in the blink of an eye you'll be at 120 and barely notice it. Awesome road trip car.

All new brakes, rotors, pads recently installed. Most of the rear suspension components have been replaced within the last year. Two new fuel filters within last year, new pumps last two years. Fuel pressure regulators, fuel injectors, entire fuel system checked and passed past few months. New strut cartridges in the front, have new upper and lower control arms for both sides including new ball joints to be replaced along with complete tie rod end assemblies for both sides. (almost a Grand in parts alone) Can refer you to local mechanic who can replace for very reasonable cost or you can do it yourself. If you decide to have it done right away, I have a lifetime alignment warranty on the car, I will take it to get it aligned for you for free after the components have been replaced.

Known issues are all minor and none of them affect the functionality of the car: Seam in seat of drivers side seat needs to be restitched, approximately 2 inches, leather is not torn though. Center link support bearing for drive shaft should be replaced. Every once in a while you can hear it thump. Not essential to driving the car, will not damage anything else to keep driving it, just annoying thump. There is a small leak in one of the lines for the rear suspension leveling system, System works but if you put hydraulic fluid in it you will have a puddle on the driveway. The bulbs in the instrument cluster which illuminate the LCD for odometer, etc are burnt out. You can see what it says and verify mileage with flashlight. Mechanic thought it would be easy to replace so he tried to pull it out, will not come out without removing steering wheel. After he put it back, left side of cluster which is where the speedo is works intermittently. Hit a bump it will work, hit another and it doesn't. Mechanic probably did not plug wires into cluster very well because issue only surfaced after he attempted to replace the bulbs. SRS (airbag)  light comes on, flashes, sometimes stays on solid. Mechanic said it is just a bad sensor, not worth worrying about. Would replace components for front suspension which are all included in the sale.

Essentially, a few little fixes (all the new parts except for the centerlink bearing are included in the sale) and you have a classic BMW that is a head turner, fun to drive and reliable.

This is really a great looking car. I get compliments on it every time I drive it, even at the country club it looks great parked in the valet with the newer cars and I get asked about it all the time from clients and others. The neighbor down the street asked for a while about buying it before he found one of his own (I wasn't looking to sell it then) and I'm not telling my 15 and a half year old son yet that I'm selling it because I know he wants it and secretly thinks he is getting it.

BMW is the US auto industry's leading exporter

Fri, 18 Jul 2014

Which automaker do you think ships the most cars out of North America, one of the Detroit Three or perhaps one of the Japanese automakers? Nope. It turns out the BMW's Spartanburg, SC, factory is the biggest automotive exporter from the continent in the United States. According to a recent profile by Bloomberg looking at the plant's 20th anniversary, Bimmer's southern ops sends out more vehicles than all of Michigan combined.
When the Spartanburg factory opened up in 1994, its success was hardly assured, largely because of South Carolina's relatively small economy at the time. However, BMW picked the site because of its proximity to East Coast shipping that made it easier to move engines and transmission in from Germany and export vehicles back to Europe, according to Bloomberg. The Bavarians clearly made the right choice.
Today, the plant has developed into an absolute powerhouse. The factory currently assembles the X3, X4, X5 and X6 and exports about 70 percent of the vehicles built there. Things are only getting better. BMW is investing $1 billion through 2016 to boost annual production from the current 300,000 units up to 450,000 and to build a new flagship crossover called X7. The expansion also adds a further 800 jobs there to take total employment up to about 8,800. Including the latest financing, BMW has put over $7.3 billion into the factory since it opened, notes Bloomberg.

2016 X6 M brings the power at LA show

Wed, 19 Nov 2014

BMW tore the cover off the second generation 2016 X6 M Wednesday at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
BMW tuned the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 to push out 567 horsepower, up from the last model's 555 hp. Torque also leaps to 553 pound feet, compared with the previous output of 500 lb-ft. The V8 is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, which swaps in for the old six-speed. This potent powertrain allows the crossover to hit 60 miles per hour in about four seconds.
The X6, which features slightly more dramatic styling and an angled rear roofline, debuted alongside the more conventionally styled 2016 BMW X5 M at the LA show.

A look back on BMW, South Carolina and Southern manufacturing

Sat, 29 Dec 2012

It has been 20 years since BMW broke ground on its Spartanburg, SC manufacturing facility, and while the automaker doesn't have any plans to mark the moment, economists and industry analysts have taken a closer look at the facility's impact on South Carolina, the South and global manufacturing. As of November, the Spartanburg plant's 7,000 employees cranked out 25,000 vehicles per month, and BMW has poured some $6 billion into the state since the plant opened in 1993. While that figure nearly matches the state's proposed budget for next year, some say there have been drawbacks.
To begin with, South Carolina provided BMW with hundreds of millions of dollars worth of public money and tax breaks with little public oversight, setting a precedent that would repeat itself with other corporations. The Detroit News reports that a Pew Center evaluation found 26 states didn't have a sufficient system for evaluating tax incentive performance. But BMW opened the door for a Southern manufacturing renaissance, with automakers from Mercedes-Benz to Hyundai and Volkswagen opening plants in the Deep South.
While states have raced to offer ever sweeter tax and cash incentives for big manufacturers, officials say BMW is proof the system can pay dividends. You can read the full piece here.
